bullet points and extra returns in the crafting books please
« on: September 19, 2010, 02:44:28 am »
the crafting books are very rather difficult to read because there is no extra return between lines and no bullet points to seperate eact action. it would probibally require a few minutes in any word processing utility to clean up the crafting books and it would make it easier to read

Alternative wording suggestion:  ;)

"I've noticed that the crafting books are somewhat difficult to read. I would be willing to add extra hard returns to the books, which might make them a bit easier to read. Do you think this is a good idea, anyone?
If our community thinks this would help, I'm will send a pm to the developers and ask if perhaps that is a task I might be able to do for them and the PS community. Thanks!"

...just a suggestion, mikeloeven... I'm just saying...

Well anyways, he has a good point though. The crafting books are a complete mess!
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

there's already someone working on trying to make the crafting books more readable, however it's not exactly easy as all of you should already know by now.

well i guess even though the books are in.txt format that the crafting books have scripts to change them based on your skill level that would make them very complicated

crafting books aren't text files, they're automatically generated based on your skills and available transformations - not updated ;)

you can always buy IG craft books made simple by other players, OR you could make them yourself and sell the books, I'm sure many people would buy one. At least I did, i bought a simplified version cookbook from Elady.

Mishka raises a paw in the air "I am writing a book about crafting blades… and helms…"

[All of this IG  ;) I'll contact a book ¿dealer? ¿trader? I forgot what he said, it's Miadon… well, I'll contact him and sell my books if they're good and simple enough. But you'll have to wait till I know how to craft a broadsword… which will be soon I hope.]

For now you could use a network analyser like wireshark to get the content crafting books. They are transfered as plain text and can be saved this way in a text file which then can be edited for easier reading. Works also with Settings books and doesn't require any editing of the PS sourcecode so no need for running a modded client.

The other way is to mod your client and make crafting books saveable in the planeshift/src/client/gui/pawsbookreadingwindow.cpp file. Requires only a few additions there so shouldn't also be so hard to do. Of course this is no real solution to the main problem that crafting books are hard to read...but at least you can open them in a external editor then, put them in a better form there and most important, use the search feature of the editor to find the "recipes" easier.

No, you are no idiot. - You just need to get used to "ask your favourite nerd" how he would do it. ;)

you can use the OCR built into microsoft one note to grab the text out of the screenshot but the problem with that is you have to train it to recognize the font and to the best of my knowledge it doesent work very well
