Please note I haven't read a thing in this Poll thread.

But here goes, It's obvious people will vote RP because they don't want to say the truth, I mean really if people were being honest they would vote PLing, because there are far more PLers in PS than RPers, in my own opinion.
vakachek dont base things on things you dont know, I'll bet most of the people who have commented here so far, you have no idea who they are IG or IRL.
Its not their fualt, that your in the wrong place at the wrong time, stop hanging around Oja and being banned, and you'll find more RP then you think you can.

Lol I hardly hang around Oja when IG. Just so you know I said "Please note I haven't read a thing in this poll thread." But I know the amount of RP in PlaneShift is crap that is why so many RPers are leaving, like Illysia.
yet notice how she still hangs around the forum, i feel that all forum trolls, stick around simply to rejoin PS whenever they feel the need to strike again. And if you think the RP is crap, you really have not looked around enough, i find it everywhere, i often start it, since i say hi to everyone i see.... So again, dont say anything, if you dont know what your talking about

I don't think the problem is a lack of roleplaying. It's just that everyone thinks roleplaying is something different. What is it? Is it just being in character? If that's the case, RP saturation is near 100%. Almost everyone at least answers questions in character. Very rare is the real-world reference in day to day conversation in game. Is roleplaying going to the tavern and pretending to be lovers in the bedroom? Is it hours of high school theater class in the town square? Is true RP something that removes the "G" entirely from the RPG experience? Where the ideal Planeshift experience is one that could be mirrored with no loss on an MSN messenger chat? I don't think "Roleplaying" is turning every character statement into a chapter of Lord of the Rings, with more exposition than a Stephen King novel. Sometimes, people just talk normally. This is just as in character as anything. I think the problem is an infinite spectrum of "what roleplaying is" and the people leaving might not be able to meet their own definition in game. Everyone they leave behind believes they're roleplaying though, and that can't be taken away.

... i often start it, since i say hi to everyone i see.... So again, dont say anything, if you dont know what your talking about

Lol I consider "Hi" OOC since we are a medieval game... The response to "Hi" back then would be like "Excuse me, what did you say?"

I'm not a troll I am just stating what I think, seriously who would say they are a PLer and be on the RP server, that's just stupid. So I am saying some people aren't being honest, when I know there are some people who really don't play to RP they play to get the next level in Axes.

... Is true RP something that removes the "G" entirely from the RPG experience? ...

You see back when RP was a very common thing in games, RP was a game, because people found RP fun and enjoyable, I reckon it's because there was so much of it, you look at Dannae someone who just about only RPs I bet she finds that RP is fun and so the game is about RP. What I am trying to say is that the game should be about RolePlaying, everything you do is to do with RP.

Before we get into to much detail about RP it is simple 'acting' and your set is 'Yliakum'. Whatever is in Yliakum is what you use in your 'act' for example: Yliakum is medieval so you must 'act' medieval, so you don't say "hi" you say "Greetings" and whatnot...
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

It's more of the Renaissance age than medieval. And that doesn't mean we are on Earth either. And using that logic the speech would be too confusing for people since English has changed dramatically over the years.

Good points on the "Hi" bits, but here's something to think about. Medieval people didn't typically give over the top greetings either. They were you and I, and they were just casual people trying to fit in. I imagine they, in their olde (insert language here) said the translation of "hello" in a slang that nobles probably wouldn't use. My next question isn't sarcasm or anything - just a real question: Can you think of the right way to say hi as an average Joe in the world? Because what seems horribly fake to you when you read "Hi" seems much more normal to me than, "Hail and greetings to you, stranger. I am Zuccabar Haliburton, a fine smith if ever you met one. And who might you be?" You see - nobody talks like that. Doesn't anyone just shake hands, say hi, and have a beer? I know a beer sounds damn good right now.

Hate to break this to you Vaka but I have seen Dannae out there grinding on some mobs a pretty good number of times. She is getting up there in her sword, melee and heavy Armor skills.

But her majority of playing is RP not PLing, and if she is grinding it would be for RP.

@Everybody (not everyone the account name ;) ) Well I would expect "Hello" or "Greetings", to me "Hi" is OOC because I believe that nobody back then would of known that word. But in any aspect of seeing someone say "Hi" would be maybe someone who has just finished work and is very tired and is kinda like "Hi" *Roll eyes, walk to bed* type thing, but I think that the word "Hi" wasn't around back then, along with words such as "wasn't", "weren't", "we've" etc (Sorry forgot the names of those type of words)

It's more of the Renaissance age than medieval. And that doesn't mean we are on Earth either. And using that logic the speech would be too confusing for people since English has changed dramatically over the years.

English hasn't changed so dramatically that we can't even try to say words that haven't been cut down to be shorter to say. Renaissance age and Medieval age is probably not that different.
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

vakachehk, you want to speak old english? that's what was spoken in medieval times. here's an example:

http://www8.georgetown.edu/departments/medieval/labyrinth/library/oe/texts/a4.1.html

yeah, that's what i thought.  ;D

and all your grinding should be for roleplay purposes, vakachehk. this is an actual roleplaying game. thus, just about everything you do is for the sake of roleplaying. i PL so i can realistically roleplay my character. so does dannae.

ignorance is bliss.  ;)

Hmmm, so far looks like my guess was completely wrong according to the poll results so far.  :-[

I know most of us are here for many reasons..too many to include in a poll, I'd just hoped to find the most important one if you had to pick just one.

Also, I like reading about other's reasons for playing if they care to expand on a poll choice along with a reply.

@ Ruya, I couldn't agree more!

Finally, how did someone else add that last choice to my poll???

I guess it would be the RPing that keeps me going, or in my case the concept, and interactions that make it what it can be. I go way back to the old dungeons and dragons days ( hate to show my age) and found that I missed the fellowship and interactions that the games had created , when I found Planeshift a few years back I knew I found my home once again, and though I still struggle with RPing I know in time my er, ah? umm , my confidence? yea my confidence will grow to the point where I can interact without feeling like I'm constantly falling on my face

Vakchek, you need to stop taking things, so to the specifics, becuase thats not how people generally talk, most everyone i know generalizes things when they speak, when i say i said hi to everyone, it doesnt mean i say 'hi' to everyone, i say pretty much every form of the word hello, and as has been said PL'ing has nothing to do with OOC, PL'ing has every much to with RP as having a beer in the tavern does, as most people who RP as warriors, have to train to get to where they want to be, So IC'ly they have to train as well, so the basically, RP training, while training. thats using the set, going along with your acting thing, personally, i hardly train, whatsoever, you'll see me fighting things all the time, becuase that fits my character, i hunt monsters and criminals, but your more likely to find me camping, or in a tavern, becuase  i enjoy talking, which goes back to me saying hello to everyone.

Your answer
But her majority of playing is RP not PLing, and if she is grinding it would be for RP.

Well people saying things like Thou, Thee etc is well IC but also OOC because that is classified as Old English which is technically a complete different language and the only language from the real world that is allowed in PlaneShift is English. But what I am saying is that using English and making it a little more Medievalised is what I find is more IC. But I don't pack a fuss when people do say "Thou" or "Thee" as that is still well known Old English, and is still semi English.
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

ughghgh.... rather than point out every little fallacy in your logic, i'm just going to say this: the language spoken in yliakum is Common. it is modern english. that's just how it is. if you wish to speak in old english, go ahead, but 1) i doubt you can, 2) it's ooc, and 3) no one will understand you. i'm sure "thou" and related words are alright. however, i don't see why you can't just use the word "you". "thou" is an informal "you". if you're going to speak formal, say "ye".
