Upper Levels - Sky
« on: July 17, 2003, 01:11:19 am »
People have mentioned levitation and Pterodactyles and big mutated bats... etc. etc. so... is it possible for one of the upper levels be in the clouds?  Special shoes could be sold (for a hefty price) to allow adventurers to walk on the clouds (just make the ground lumpy and white with occasional holes in it hehe)  And Floating castles and cities could dot the area as well as a whole barrage of odd fantasy-based flying creatures... afterall arn\'t people tired of fighting great winged dragons that never get off the ground?  Another interesting feature could be to add ships that can glide across the clouds between the cities...

I know you are in a stalagmite... but it is a big stalagmite... and we have air and water so the natural reavtion is water vapor... aka clouds - so why not have a \'skylike area\' *sheesh*  I didn\'t ask for a big blue thing just clouds and floating castles...

Yeah seeing as it rains there clearly is a contained atmosphere within the stalactite.  I dunno about the floating city stuff though, just from what I\'ve read no race seems to have that capability, and all the gods live on or underground.  And I don\'t think youl\'d want to be to close to the big crystal coz\' it\'s radioactive or something.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

as poowerful as the crystal is - there is nothing to stop it from picking up castles and smirling them around it like satelites... it doesnt have to be a mutant race - just someone who was inthe wrong castle at the wrong time - or loads of mages

Well the crystal could have its own gravitational field, maybe, which holds the stalactite up and stops it bouncing off the cave walls around it (in all the pictures I\'ve seen it looks like it\'s floating). I like the floating cities idea, maybe an extra exploration element could be added in that the radiation is harmful to those who visit the upper level at first, but after a while you build immunity to it, and could travel to one of the floating cities where again you would have to build up protection against it. Like getting a tan, kind of.

As for the flying dragons idea, WOWEE! That would be a supacool idea, mid-air battles and the like. you could arm yourself with another dragon if you could catch one maybe.

I like the idea, but it would have to be above the earth. i mean there is land out side the slagmite right? then above the land (earth) is clouds and then the people :)
good idea :)

God Bless,

Above the surface is a horrid wasteland where no one in their worst dreams would want to be damned to. Or I think that\'s what\'s up there.

I like the horrid wasteland concept.  It would explain why the gods of plain shift decided not to go there.  It would also be a great place for the toughest quests the nastiest monsters and all other exceedingly high-level things.

Having the weather be extreme would also be cool.  Wind so high they can throw you around like rag dolls.  Driving rain the can peel your skin off.  That would mean you would have to pick a day to surface that you could actually survive or have some serious spellcasting ability to stave off the environment.

Yeah, but when you go up there a dragon comes by and eats off your ears and you can\'t hear anymore. When you return back home and have no ears you see some novelty elf ears and buy them so it looks like you have ears, but your 6 feet tall and clearly not a elf, but people mistake you for one and beat you up because your a freak. WHen you finally get the ears taken off you go for a swim in the pool but people attack you again with harpoons because they think you are a whale because you don\'t have ears. You are then sold on the market to a man with a traveling shoe shop and he makes you a pair of leather ears and sews them onto your head. The ears are to big and magnify the sound to much and you go deaf and start yelling, the guards come running and cut your legs off and leave you there yelling, then a goat comes by and eats your clothes. So your laying there with no legs, ears, or clothes still yelling, then a male donkey comes by and picks you up and on his back, and the two of you live happily ever after.

*shaking head* There is no reason why such a level has to be above the Earth, sky doesn\'t imply BLUE!  Actually when we look up we dont see blue things!!! that\'s  just a matter of optical physics, more specifically defraction, ... so don\'t worry about having to have a BLUE in your SKY!  As far as I see it there is a big stone cieling to our stalagmite and this radioactive crystal floating near it.

As for the radiation : no radiation skill is necessary since the crystals radiation is beneficial for the most part: \"At the seventh level the radiation is just enough to penetrate the mass of the lake in order to light it, while on the first level it is so strong that it allows wonderful crops and the breeding of great cattle, which provide milk and meat. \"  And is not harmful until extremely close distances: \"nearer than twelve steps from the Crystal, the radiation dissociates matter\"  It is safe to say that the cloud layer (since it is obviously comprised of matter) would be a safe distance from the crystal - possible in a large ring around it.  As for the elves - of course there will be forests *sigh* don\'t think that just because the devs might invest time in something like this they will somehow forget the elves...

oh another thing - some of you may be thinking radiation AHH!!! Communists!!! - *sigh* radiation is for the most part a good thing - The list of reasons why mankind NEEDS radiation to survive is to long to list.  So I\'ll just give two examples of things that most people don\'t understand are radiation: light and heat.  Since I can\'t imagine the devs adding cancer to the game, there shouldn\'t be much of a problem - afterall what are you going to do - buy sunscreen?
