Taken in context, I think what it comes down to is priorities.

Would we rather have children and teens for player races, or 24 other new creature types, they would each take about the same amount of resources.

Once again, I welcome all the new models.

No, child is a good things IMO.
It\'s actually a classic feature of manga, an exceptional child with special attributes.
Don\'t you see yourself ready to blow up the old wizard?

But it\'s not with marriage or things like that. Just select a kid of any race you want. Some skills change, being child for example could increase a lot charisma (cute little boy :p) or something like that, or make ennemy unable to attack until some time (because it\'s a child! seems unfair).
There are tons of interesting to do with child. + you can RP them really well.

Concerning model, I don\'t think it\'s that hard. Globally it\'s resizing down the body, keeping head size, changing some little attributes on face.

I didn\'t wanna bring that up, but yeah, Japan is the only place where something like that would make sense.  And it just feels kinda out of place if it\'s in something that is so very NOT Japanese.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

Even if we can\'t be children, there should definitely be child npc\'s, would add to the atmosphere a lot.

lol, It would make the game look much better, but that\'s about it. If it won\'t take up 2 much resources then I\'m all for it.

There should only be children in game if they are npcs and you can kill them. Lol, i think it is unneeded and pointless to have children.

Children would be interesting indeed.
That reminds me of Rydia in FF2. Even as a child she was a skilled summoner and could use many types of dark magic. A sorcerers skill doesn\'t depend on his/her knowledge, it is a gift and I see no reason why a child couldn\'t be able to use it. Perhaps not in a mature way, but still.
Link is another example, his skills with the sword and the bow matches an adult. Besides this is a medival-style game and children grew up a lot faster back then.

I would find it interesting to RP through the darker sides of childhood, like if my family/clan is brutally murdered and I am the only survivor (or if I\'m the murderer who kills my own family/clan), or a child who\'s got powers he/she cannot control or whatever you can imagine.

Of course, since you\'re a child you have your limitations, like most of your stats is low and you cannot buy any beer at Kada\'s :P  but you should also have some advances, like high charisma as Djaggernaut said. Some monsters wont attack you (unless you\'re attacking them first of course) and if they do, the chance is pretty high that they KO and capture you instead of killing you.

I\'m definitly for an aging-system, perhaps you could choose if you want to grow older or stay immortal, but that\'s up to the devs.

An army of undead children would serve the purpose of morbidity.. (and of course, scaring away the n00bs)

It might help to even out the game.  Up to lvl5 ur a child and get xp from parents at lvl 5 you become a preteen and get xp really fast, at lvl 12 u become a teen and ur  strenght goes up(you still get xp faster than adults), lvl20 u become an adult strength shoots up but you get xp slower then lvl45 u become aged ur strength goes down resonably but ur wisdon/inteligence and such goes up.  That would add strategy to the game.  And maybe later on you could take a youth potion that would bring u down to adult or teen.  It would add originality thats for sure.

I agree for the growth idea children -> adult. As you said, children may have special advantages (xp learn, protection from *...) but drawback (weakness...)

However, i don\'t like the idea of making all the characters old after a fixed level. Fighters will lose everything while mages will gain widom/intelligence.

The idea has actually been brought up before, but It wont work since that would mean a player who has choosen to become an author (if the idea about writeable books in game becomes reality) or a mapdrawer, or a person who just wanna drink beer, talk to other players, \"work\" as a beggar and play minigames (if there will be any) remain child even though his friend who has choosen to become a warrior becomes old very quickly.
Besides, if you\'re a warrior and become old that would mean you have to choose the path of a wizard or a druid instead which would anger a lot of people.
It would also ruin the RP-feeling since a player who wanna roleplay a child can become old before his father if the father is having a holiday or have to leave the game for a while for some other reason which wouldn\'t make sense.

I liked the youth-potion idea though. There was a game called Mordor ll in which you aged (lifetime depended on what race you choosed to play as) where you could find youth-potions and use them since your abilities were reduced when you got old, and it worked perfectly.
If you become too old you can go out and search for a youth-potion which would of course be very rare and/or very hard to create. An good excuse for an adventure. Use it to regain youth or sell to other players and make a lot of money.
There could also be some kind of extremely rare item that makes you live forever. I\'m sure such an item would cause a lot of greed :P
