Businesses would be a good idea. Adds more depth to the game.

Hiring other PCs won\'t be, because people don\'t want to have their characters do an hour of work, what\'s the player going to do.

So paying NPCs is a good idea.

As far as \"how to go about it\", Xandria has the best idea.

Item creation, ok: Only created by smiths or dropped by monsters.

But they also need to somehow be removed from play. Otherwise they will accumulate.

Hmmm, I think i already posted an idea of mine that resembled this one. In the Market Place Forum thread. My idea was having an organization where merchants would have to sign up for their own shop. The organization would then appoint them a building. This organization then allows the shopkeeper to display his merchandise on this organizations forum, and helps the shopkeeper out financially. In return the shopkeeper would have to give a certain amount of his winnings to this organization. If i remember correctly that is.

(btw Xolon, that isn\'t just a dutch expression, it\'s also an english one. Only the correct phrasing would be: Hitting the nail on the head.  :) )

This reminds m of my idea to throw up a pavillion to seell your goods under. Personally I like the way UO went about with hiring vendors. Maybe their stats in Charisma could contribute to prices. If thy hav a high charisma, they can buy low and sell high, but if theirs is too low, they run your bussiness into the ground.

That could work. Infact that could work well.

Perhaps also have lodging costs (your character can work for a while but will have to return to an inn every now and then aswell).

And you could have innkeepers (another player business) and better inns might offer more storage space or better bedding (more benefit from rest). Cheap inns may have a chance for some of your goods to be stolen (innkeeper has to spend more on trustworthy employees).

Set Prices

I think that the player should also get to set their own prices to make things more interesting, and to encourage competition among businesses. I think a sense of capitalism could set this game apart from others.
