I Couldn't be Happier
« on: December 22, 2003, 02:04:12 am »
Its been a whole weekend and I\'ve finally decided to move the icon for PS from my quicklaunch bar as i don\'t plan to be launching this game(quickly) for a quite a while.

I\'m running P4 2.4mhz 512mb 160HD with 3ghz of Virtual Memory and 128MB Geforce GC - I\'ve had little joy with running this game.

Its connects slow, graphic rendering is so slow that it feels like im looking at a flick book, wouldnt it have been so nice to think that the graphic engine could have been brought from another company(Say ID Software or EA Games) as this current one has more leaks than my little sisters pants.

I see alot of potental for this game and am crossing my fingers in that we will be able to see it one day and yes i know \'Pre Alpha\', it was just that i had such high exceptations for this game.

If there is any information on tuning the game up a little please someone let me know and everyone enjoy their Xmas

PS - Don\'t bother making a comment on the spelling, I\'m really to tired...

uhm.. yeah, what do you expect from a free pre-alpha mmorpg, that\'s made by a group of people who just do this for a hobby without any money or whatsoever..
the whole engine is free and under development too, how do you expect them to buy a 3d engine from some giant software company without spending any money...

anyways, good luck with the next release and a merry christmas. i just hoped you had better informed yourself before posting this.

EDIT: sorry, i forgot to add pre-alpha..

Well, part of the journey is the development.  The idea is to turn Crystal Space into an engine that can rival any from EQ or ID.   Not everybody has tens of thousands of dollars to buy a graphic engine.  Does that mean they should be denied the joy of creating a game?

We all have high hopes for the future and we are all planning to work towards making PlaneShift and Crystal Space something that can rock the gaming community.

We are fully aware that PlaneShift and Crystal Space does not work well on everybody\'s system.  We can only work on it and try to make it better for the future.  But the development really relies on the community.  If you have friends or people you know that are interested then point them towards projects like Crystal Space,  that way the entire group gains.

I relized this is a sort of \'personal project\' and that funding is small/none and though i am aware of the fact that the planeshift devs. are not able to purchase such an engine \'It would have been nice if they could\' - The game would be \'up and running\' alot sooner

It would seem this is my fault for excepting to much, though they say \'The best things in life are free\'

Well, there are a couple of points here that differ I guess.  Of course we want to make a game but *WE* want to make the game and be invovled in all the aspects of it.  I guess we are more of lego type people in that we like building all the parts we can.  If we wanted a toy we would just go out and buy one.

The same could be same for the game.  We could have licensed an engine, bought a network layer for a different company, licensed the artwork from another, and paid a composer to write the music.  But is it *our* game then or just something we stuck together?

We end up at the same result but one is much more satisfying then the other :)

I am very inspired for the future of PlaneShift and I will never stop working on it and all the parts that are involved.

Of course people will expect it not to suck and we will certainly try our best not to :).

I used to love lego when I was younger, I understand the point you\'ve made.

I\'ll leave PS for now though and mantain a keen eye for updates. I\'d like to say I could help you guys in some way, though I work within the ISP field not programming and Developing, good luck with PS and all the best
