C++ is usually 2 years, you can sometimes squeeze it down to 1, and opengl plus the windowing api is another year or more

yes they could, but i\'ve never seen a katana in a book, game, or other entertainment item that didnt have japanese in the backround story

A guild image of some sort is a good idea.
But choosing from a list of pre-made images or uploading your own is not.
The images should be externally linked, just as they are on this forum.
It would be nice whether it is placed over another textured mesh (ie. armor) or in a characters/guilds profile.
Although, it might be difficult to monitor the types of images used...

abemore, if they are externally linked, its either gonna take up more server messaging or hard drive space for others to see it

well if you dont feel like keeping the space on your hardrive then there should be an option to ignore some or even all of the custom weapons. instead of downloading them you can press a button in the options menu to ignore all custom weapons. and if you only want to ignore some of lessar known clans then you can manually change them. but be warned this takes away the rping experience because when people start talking about how cool thier clan weapon is, you wont be able to see it.

that could be an option, but it will have to be well thought out, it would look very dumb if a guy is swinging an invisable weapon because you chose not to view guild weapons.

even so this is even more work on top of implementing the origional system.    if they do implement it, it wont be for a long time.  personally i\'d almost like to see guild housing with hireable merchants and a guild vault etc before guild items

They\'d be images.  Images don\'t take enough hard drive space for anyone to care about.  And it would be zero additional strain on the PS server because of the external linking.  Much like your browser cache, these images can be stored temporarily.

And I don\'t imagine custom weapons/models/meshes will be very likely.

Thats not how it would work. you would see the generic base weapon that they were  modifying off of. not anything invisible.

Abemore, immages take up alot of space actually, especially when you have lots of them.  your sig is roughly one meg in size.  now imagine 500 guilds, each with a 1 meg pic or how ever the hell you want this done, you now have a half gig eaten up.

the easiest way to turn them off is to just not load them, thus the invisable weapons, but like i said it would look stupid so it would have to be worked out a different way, i didnt specify how.  you seem to be very good at only reading pieces and parts of posts  :)

my sig is roughly 10 KB.  other peoples sigs are roughly the same.  500 of these = 5 MB.  no one has a 1 MB sig.  and if they do, they should be shot.

If modding weapons were allowed, it porbably would be nothing more than an externally linked texture.  It is doubtful that people will be able to create their own models because this would probably be difficult to make and difficult to externally link to.

AHH YOUR DRUNK!!!! Listen 1st of all even 3d meshes included with the textures only take about 30k tops.

2nd of all seeing the generic weapon they were modifying wouldnt have any lag because its the same as a regular sword. they are just modified generic swords. if you are loading the generic sword there cant be any more lag that normal.. im sorry if im irritable im just tired and the screen hurts my eyes... :(

EDIT: also i think there should be harder to start a guild therefore less modified weapons.

first thing, did i even bring up lag?  maybe i did

anyways this is a well debated point and quite frankly theres nothing more left than a flame war to go on, so since the devs have the last say anyways i\'m leaving this topic alone
