then when the fat/strength variables cross a boundary the players model is changed to the appropriate one

Personally, I would prefer to have this option at character creation rather than have my character change physical appearance during the game.  That way my character\'s appearance is constant, and if that has something to do with his history or whatever, I can roleplay it properly, and not have him lose significant amounts of weight after doing some questing, or looking like I gain huge weight after a buffet :D.

Eating (assume its gonna have a use) - eat too much = get fat, exercise a lot = get slim etc

scars from battles

growing hair

physique - strong characters become more muscular, players that fly a lot get bigger wings etc

maybe embed some unusual character changes into the race backstory

eg 1 race might have the trait that the more intelligent they get the bigger their heads get... or 1 race might develop big hors as they get better in battle

etc etc

So, if I get my arm cut of, and I go to the smith, who is skilled like crazy, he can make me a new arm, and i can be like a cy-borg, with like a super shoulder mounted gun, and a big future-istic sword thing-a-majig. ANd i can have one of those laser pointed eyes, that targets things from far away, and as soon as it\'s got the targer, i would just up, and fly in this cool pose, untill I land, and then we kung-fu fight till the end, and I would gain a skill lvl, and marry the monster\'s hot wife/babe.
Realism, I think so. Crazyness, maybe not. Sceptisism, prehaps, but who is really to say that the sky is blue, or that we are even here, typing about cakes.
The point I am trying to make is, yes, the game should be limitless, and we should all quit our day jobs to develop it.
