Weapon: Sword
« on: March 10, 2004, 11:57:25 am »
Ok, here\'s a sword I\'ve modeled after a concept piece I did a long time ago. . .

I plan on textureing this eventually, but if I get a good responce here, I may get on it sooner. It has a few more faces than I\'d like, but due to the fact that this engine apperantly can\'t deal with intersecting faces, I\'ve had to add some here and there to maintain the look I wanted.

Does anyone know if the mesh has to be completely closed and continuous as well? Does the engine have problems with faces close to each other, but not touching?

Looks good, could do with a nice texture though. :) Have you submitted it to LWW?

Very nice indeed. Which modelling program did you use?

Thanks all.

@Thardin: I use 3dsMax 5.1

@Mogura: No, I have not submitted it to LWW yet. I figured I\'d see what response I got here first, and then maybe texture it too.

Does anyone know who might be able to answer the questions I asked in my first post?

Also, On LWW, are the meshes that I can view on the site already accepted into the game? or are they just submissions pending?

Thanks again.

I should believe it does not have to be continuous, since the wood-axe model in game seems very much like it is two pieces.
Ninjas have feelings too.  Mostly they feel like dancing.

@Wedge: Really? I havn\'t played the game yet, I still have to download the install files. If It\'s two pieces, is it the handle and the head? Do they intersect then as well?

I sure would like to be able to hear from someone on the dev team on this.

Thanks for all your help.

I think if the devs are smart, which I think they are :D, they will make separate parts of weapons and models that will need repetition like swords.  so that any handle can be attached to any blade ingame.

but I think the engine will not have problems with what you ask, but then again I have no clue.  Good sword by the way

@Sashok20: Thanks.

I\'ve gotten a bit ahead of myself, I still need to go back and redo some UV\'s but anyway, here\'s a quick(and quite unfinished) texture test. Lemme know what you think.

The model is very good, it\'s a simple yet very.... noble-looking sword.
The handle on the texture job looks too mono-coloured, but i\'m sure you\'re not done with that yet. The blade\'s texture looks quite good.

I must say that the design is quite good. The cross-guard is awesome. The runes on the blade are cool. Perhaps you might think of contouring the handle a bit. If not, it\'s still very good. Man...I can\'t get over that cross-guard...

Thanks all,
 I\'m waiting on my wacom that should be here in a couple of days to finish texturing this.

Skizzik: No, not finished yet.

Jedi: Thanks! I\'ll probably leave the handle, as it will take more polys if I change it, and this is the way the concept looks.

Gumster: I\'m not sure if what you\'re asking. Thumbsup?

Here\'s the badly photoshop darkened scan of my sketch from long ago. (scanned/darkened long ago as well).

Nice! That armor is cool. I can never get that metal look in my sketches. I commend you. Why don\'t you model that too? :P
