Stuck at Intializing World, and then timeouts
« on: April 26, 2004, 04:37:33 am »

This thing never happened to me, not even in the first time I loaded PS, wich makes it even more weird.
Everything worked just fine yesterday, then today I decided to try Aineko\'s mods.
When I tried logging into PS, it took an aweful lot of time in the Initializing World part, so I quit, ran the updater, and tried again. Still, it was stuck in that same place. I left it be, and after I checked back, PS was back in the main menu with the Connect window up, and there was a message that said that it timeouted.
I uninstalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled PS. Installed the mod again, and tried. Again, it\'s stuck in the Initializing World.
Removed the mod, checked. Stuck.

I was getting pissed off, it didn\'t make any sense, PS always worked for me fine (besides the occasional low FPS). I saw Talads thread, wich said that I should leave it like that for atleast two hours.
I reinstalled and ran the game at ~3am (gmt +3). At ~5am I checked the game again. Timed out.

This is really frustraiting... I\'m going to sleep soon, and haven\'t played PS even one bit today, and probebly won\'t tomorrow either (what a great way to spend this short vacation from work :( )

Time of test: 3am - 5am gmt +3
OS: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.80GHz
RAM: 512MB
Video Card: GeForce 2
Video Card Memory: 64
PS Client Version: 0.2.010
OpenGL or Safe Mode: OpenGL (I tried Safe Mode a couple of times too, but I don\'t remmember exact time)

I\'ve had this problem twice (both times on Sunday mornings, oddly enough, but it usually resolves in the afternoon).
The thing that worked for me was just to wait.

I had the same problem yesterday after a pretty weird crash of psclient.exe.
I tried to log in for almost two hours (one connection attempt) but it did not want to work.
Logging in with my second char however worked fine, and I saw that my primary character was logged in, my client just did not seem to want to believe it.

After peeving everyone to tell me if they see \"Pogopuschel\" stand around anywhere and two mods kicking him for several times in order to resolve the problem we finally found him, standing in a place which what I believe is the border between two map parts.

Reinstalling the client/re-running the updater did not work for me either, finally I went to the IRC-channel and asked for a reset of my coordinates which helped at once. Perhaps you just have to do the same, although I\'m afraid that after my posting a lot of people will bother the people in the channel although their problem is just temporary. :(

Oru, that actually helped.... PS works for me now... :D

OT
Pogo, about the coordinates thing. I got a theory. When you connect to the server, you first load in a certain coordinate, and then in the process of loading, you\'re moved to the place you were last at.
That\'s why when you partially loaded you were there, and not where you were last time you logged out.
Something like that happened to me in another MMO. Only that my char was inside the planet itself o_O

Stupid as I am, I left my second char (Yyoruus) in rougly the same spot where Pogopuschel was stuck two days ago. Now Yyoruus is stuck :D
At least for me logins seem to become impossible when logging out between the fountain near the main road and the open gate there to the back alley :(

Hmm I had to dig this thread up again, because it has been 3 hours again in which I constantly tried to join, but always got stuck at \"initializing world\".
I know from previous occurances that my character is in the game and has loaded completely (so it seems), but the client just still displays the loading screen.

So basic questions are:
- What could be wrong, that this happens an awful lot recently?
- Who else has these problems and perhaps knows a workaround?

Computer Spex:
- 1.8+ Athlon XP
- 512 DDR RAM PC2100
- ATI Radeon 9600 PRO
- OS: W2k Pro SP2
- Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor: all available and connected :D

I have been trying to log onto Planeshift all day, and I keep getting stuck on \"Initializing World\" aswell, nothing is working, and after about 30mins of waiting it comes of with a Windows error box saying that PSclient.exe needs to close. This is realy getting on my nerves as nothing like this has ever happened to me since I d/l Planeshift, But it\'s obviously not just happening to me so what\'s going on to make so many people experiance this? Normally PS loads in 40 seconds for me.

PC specs:
-Windows XP
-AMD Athlon XP 2400+
-512MB RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440

Yes, exactly the same for me, except it is not 30mins but a varying amount of time when psclient.exe crashes. :(

yeah, no difference for me either, this is very annoying, I can\'t think why it is doing this (no post on my behalf since September 2003, and now 3 in 1 day, wow ;) )

Yes, me character was in the temple when I logged off yesturday and I haven\'t been able to get on with it, but also I tried creating a new character and that one had the same Initializing World problem. So it can\'t just be for chars in the temple...
