Well Zet i doubt that any of the new players can get in because they spawn at the Plaza (Also i found out that there is also crystal art inside the temple this may cause the crashes too.) My current idea of what the problem is the amount of crystals laying around.

Hurrah! For my amazing file hosting server :\\ *looks for a better one*

Seems the server has been particularly funky ever since they did something on Apr 29.  A phase of some sort of migration.

At the moment, here are lots of airborne crystals at the plaza.  Could be causing some problems.

Could be anything, really, but I would start there.

[edit]: nevermind...it was the crystals

All those crystals and Zetsumei and I are frozen out.  The irony!  *shudders*

edit: yeah, I tried creating an alt char too, no luck.  Oh well, maybe better luck tomorrow.

Yeah, sorry Darkshine.  Just bad timing on your part.  This is definitely not a normal night.

Now my main character (my only char until an hour or two ago) is stuck in the world.  Everytime I try to log in as Mordaan, it says I am already logged in.   Even after two hours.  :(

I have heard this happen before to others, moreso lately.  Hopefully it will be resolved before tomorrow.  Maybe we can get a server reset?

Well, this too is my first time trying PS and another thing has occurred. ..

While initialising, the screen has gone fuzzy with colours ( like a bad myriad of pixels).

When I messed around with the setup configs, I tried it with \'Software\' render and it worked but it didnt look as good as OPENGL so I switched back, only now every time I run it, the screen goes totally back.

I don\'t think I have finished the first  2 hour or so first time initialisation.

Has anyone got any ideas on this?

Starting black or with strange colors is actually kind of common.  Let it be for a few minutes, it usually clears up.

Hmmmm, Ok, thanks for the reassurance.

I have let it continue as my cpu says it is still running around at %50 for about 20 minutes, but still no sign of making it through. ...

I guess it is just the bad timing on my part.

Btw, I have read on other posts that some people took about  10 minutes for the first time.

Does it then depend on the computer specs of the people starting up?

I run a :

P4 2.4gh
512 Ram
Radeon 9600 pro
Cable connection from Australia

I don\'t think the rest matters much. .....I have more than enough HD space.

I was just wondering if maybe I don\'t need to wait too long either.

 8o   That\'s precisely what I have, only a 9200

And things usually run very smooth for me-and very little lag.   Lots of crashes and server kicks but I think its the same for everyone.  This is just a bad server night.   Try again tomorrow.

Ah well,

In the meantime, I have been looking at some of the pics and it looks very good indeed.

Hope to see you all there.

Crystal Art Kills
« Reply #41 on: May 06, 2004, 08:54:06 am »
This was due to the massive amounts of crystal art in the sky, which I have removed.

I made the following observations:
(1) No characters who were in the temple or near the plaza could log on. These were by the crystals. However, characters in the depths of the dungeons or far away from the crystals had no trouble at all.

(2) The very last message in the client\'s debug log (displayed on stdout or stderr under linux) discussed ruby crystals before giving a cel error and then a lot of \"Sending heartbeat\" messages.

(3) There are around 200-250 spawn points in the entire world, according to my estimates. Yet there were around 350 crystals from the art floating in one area...in addition to the crystals normally there.

(4) Wedge had said that extra crystals cause lag, and Luze was suspecting the crystals as well.

(5) Some people said they had been having issues ever since the dog and cat were placed in the sky.

So I summoned up my last two characters, the only two that could manage to log on, around 684 crates, and set to work. There were only around 2-4 people actively talking, and the rest of the clients didn\'t seem to move.

By the time I had removed Jehoel\'s \"EE FLOATS MY GOAT\" (125 rubies), more people showed up and more started moving about and talking.

Eventually I managed to take down Psybur\'s dog (122 rubies), and Luze\'s cat (100 rubies); another modder managed to take down floating emeralds and Psybur\'s \"PSY\" in the temple...

And then, everyone started showing up again, able to move and talk. At last.

I returned all of Psybur, Luze, and Jehoel\'s crystals to them, keeping none for myself. I am no thief.

It took me several hours to do this.

So my conclusion is thus: Crystal art kills - Molecular Blue simply cannot handle the load. Don\'t do it. If you do crystal art, do it on the ground in the green hills far from town, and only for limited amounts of time - like for a birthday present.

Glad to have everyone back. I just hope none of that stuff comes back again.

Well done.  Yes, I can finally log back in.   :D   Too bad about the crystal art...I don\'t mind it but it seems MB just can\'t handle it.   :(
