I doubt that you would still have a good reputation after a year, & maybe if in the future we have account logins connected with the forum & or site, then you could login from any computer (like one from a library if that is available), or just use a friends?
This is why a year is good, besides if you are that well known then you could have a friend login & change the password later (if we can change password in the future?)

Most friends of me don\'t have PS, and they don\'t want to download a 200 MB game just for signing up once and than uninstall the whole game (most friends of me don\'t have ADSL or have a data limit so they need to pay a fee when they download too much)

I guess 1 year won\'t be a bad idea.. if you just want to stop for a period and want to start again later.. than it would suck to do everything again. But thats my opinion.

Why dont base it on time already played? I mean if played a month there isnt as much to preserve as if you played a year.

For example set minimumprotected time at 3 months. If you played longer than 3 months your char/name is preserved for two times the time you already played, till a max of 18 months.  You can the change the multiplier,if you think thats too short, but you get the idea. Potentially more famous , more personalized names are reserved longer.

Yeah I like that.

Played less than a week: If youre not active for 1 month your account will be deleted.

Played for a month: Your account will be deleted when you haven\'t played for 2 months

Played for 3 months: You\'re account will be deleted when you haven\'t played for 6 months

Played for longer than 5 months: You\'re account will be deleted when you didn\'t played for 12 months (1 year)

Played longer than a year: You\'re account will be deleted if you haven\'t played the game within 2 years

This will be the maximum.. even if you have played 1 year (whats quite much and your character would probably one the the most faired players of the game), when you don\'t signin in your account in that 2 years you probably totaly lost your interest in the game!

I\'d only think this was a good idea if you had the option of contacting the devs to let them know if you were unable to get online so they could preserve your account in extreme cases. the reason I was offline so long was we had no cashflow coming into the household and ended up moving in with my parents. Now, we\'re livin on student loans.

off of that last system, my character on AC would have been deleted about four months ago, but I\'m still pretty well thought of in my monarchy. I get talk to the closest of my friends there every now and then. other than missing me, my absense there is no big deal, they know what is going on and they are very understanding about it. heh, they know I\'ll be back when I get a credit  card. I would like to think the community here would be the same way if I dissapeared. understand that people have real world problems and think only kindly of me.

Ive played for a month, then are in a car accident and end up in hospital for quite a long time.

Or I go overseas for a year or so.

Not a fan at all.

Someone has already stolen the name I usually use in MMO games. So if this one was stolen id be pretty cut.

see, exactly my point man. it might not be fair that you get in late and don\'t get a good name, but this system isn\'t fair to those who have been in from the beginning and have real world problems.

just because a person hasn\'t been around for a long time does NOT mean that they have no interest in the game.

I think you should maybe in the future be able to login to your account on the internet from anywhere, like attached to your forum name, if you don?t login to the forum in a year then you are inactive, something like that?.
Yes it may not mean if you lost interest in the game, but for that long without a internet opportunity, um, rare occasion with unusual circumstance I would think?

What about people that dl the client & create a character once with a good name, then decide ?This isn?t worth playing? & never logs in again? or forgets the password, & never logs in again. That would be worthless data on the server & maybe someone might like the name in a year? this is what I was thinking about with this whole idea?

Wouldn?t you like to have the name you want Cirque?

1) We\'re in MB. As nice as it is, there isn\'t much to do. I personally do not plan on logging in again until CB comes out. Which could take more than two years 8)

2) When CB comes out we\'ll be able to reserve names. This means that all the players who logged into MB once in the early days with an Uber-cool nick and then decided this isn\'t worth playing and left are...welll...gone. They won\'t be able to reserve that Uber-cool name.

3) If a guy \"stole\" the name you usually use on MMOGs and he\'s still active, why complain? \'Tis his by rights.

So basically you\'re arguing for the CB newbs. I say: Not our problem, let them argue about it 8)

Yeah yeah ok. Let\'s figure out a way to help the newbs.

What about an e-mail syatem? I.e. If you\'re absent for you get an automated e-mail saying your character will be deleted in a month if you don\'t reply. Then you have a month to reply to the e-mail. If the server recieves an e-mail from you, it will keep your character stored for another (six) months.

Also players should have a vacation (limbo) mode where they can store their character indefinitely.

I was just about to chime in with that- the thing is, starting with CB your username will be tied to an email address. They need that to tell you your password if you forget it and other important stuffs. It would also be easy for them to send you an email if you haven\'t logged in in say... a month. If you don\'t respond to that in a month, they could make you as idle, and then fianlly reclaim your name. I don\'t think waiting 6 moths is a good idea however, cause that would make it too easy to squat over important names, maybe one a week till you go in game again. And maybe there would be some way for other people to request your name if you have been idle for too long, you\'d still have your charactor, but you\'d have to change your name perhaps.

Anouther possibleity is that they could let everyone us any name they\'d like- then jsut wait for people to realize that they are the 100\'th person in game with a name ripped form Final Fantasy. I think they\'d go begging to have their name changed after that. :D

That\'s not a bad idea...Each person gets an original username, but character names can be shared.

After all, isn\'t that more realistic?

Well thats realistic...but ingame you can create a character that is an exact copy of somebody elses character. Then you can have lots of fun pretending you are somebody your not...
Imagine if I would create a new char and call myself Karakth...I could ruin your reputation in a matter of seconds (no offense)

Well, it wouldn\'t be all that easy- you\'d have to not only get exactly the same appearance, but also the same equipment, and considering that everyone will be labeled with their guild... not to say taht someone couldn\'t fake all that if they were motivated. more likely, they would try to smear your anme in chats, so there would have to be some mention of what account each person in a chat is using. I think the devs could do it- if they weren\'t already busy making a great game. :D
