And here, ladies and gentlemen...
« on: June 08, 2004, 06:28:00 pm »
...Is a question that\'s prolly been answered a thousand times. But! I\'m not going to go and look through the pages to see if it has (Mainly because I\'m too lazy. x-x). So, anyway. When I try to log in under my character, Tatae, it says I\'ve gone...Linkdead? What does that mean? And how do I fix it?

I take it youve just made your character and its told you you\'ve gone linkdead, check the forums, etc.

Quoted from Gronomists guide, wich is a sticky right at the top of the forum
?2.4 - Okay, you\'ll probably see something called \"Initializing World\", right? Well, if it freezes there, DON\'T TOUCH IT! Okay? It\'s the worst thing you can do, as you will have to exit PlaneShift and connect again, this time just by using the \"Connect\" button, instead of \"Create\". However, should the game say something about \"Linkdead\", you must delete your character with this tool: http://planeshift.fragnetics.com/admin/form.html , and then you must re-create your character, just a bit faster. And again, don\'t waste time on stats, jobs and advantages! They\'re useless!

Back to the Initializing World. Should it freeze, don\'t touch it. On slower computers, it can take up to two hours (!!!!) to run PlaneShift the first time, however should it take longer, I\'d recommend that you wait for PlaneShift: CB and try then. On a more high-end computer, such as mine (P4 1.6GHz, 512DDR Ram) it takes about five minutes the first time, so it\'s not as bad as you think.

You might want to take a look at Gronos guide, and Moogies as they will most likely answer any questions you have.

Oh, and just as a survival tip. Saying your to lazy to find something isn\'t really a good way to start out. :P

Tried going under 30 seconds, in custom. Tried going under 30 seconds in quick. Tried making a new character, and doing the same thing. It either says I\'m already connected, I\'ve gone LinkDead, or some other error message, telling me to go here to try and fix it.

Maybe I should just try re-installing.

Quoted from \"About Linkdead\" In the Technical Help forum
There seems to be a group of people that are getting a Linkdead messages. At the moment we do not understand why this is occuring. All I can think of at the moment is that there either some sort of firewall or proxy that is not allowing the client to receive messages from the server. I know that it can be fustrating to download it and not have it work but we simply do not have a solution at this point.

That being said, messages like \"It says I\'m Linkdead please tell me what I can do to fix\" will most likely not be answered because we dont have a solution. Also PLEASE do not contact Fragnetics about any errors you get about PlaneShift. Here are some things to check:

    * Check to make sure that you don\'t have a firewall running
    * If you have a fire wall make sure that it allows UDP on port 13331 from planeshift.fragnetics.com
    * Try using the ip addresss 203.81.47.74 instead of the name

Note that this also leads to another problem with bad accounts. This is what happens
a) you upload your character
b) the server gets this message and creates the account for it
c) the server sends a message back
d) the client gets this message
e) the client sends the player create information
f) the server creates the player

Now what I see is happening is that step (d) is failing so the server cannot send a message to your client for some reason (unknown at this point, works for many others ). Now because of this you have an account and not a player. This means that the server is in a Bad State (tm) with regards to your character. So you have an account but no player. That is why it says error with your account. You either need to a) ask to have that account deleted so you can try to recreate it or b) try a different character name.

Again if you have a linkdead problem try reading the above notes and try a few times. If you keep getting Linkdead then try a few times. If it still does not work then there isn\'t really much we can do to help so posting it is not valuable. If, however, you found a solution that does work PLEASE post it, but if you just repeat the same error over and over again it is not productive.

If you still can\'t get it to work, you may want to wait until CB comes out. Theres nothing in the current version in the way of features except crystal hunting, chatting, buying decorative weapons, roleplaying, and exploring.

Note: No one knows when CB is going to be released, popular guesses are- 1-2 months (no matter what month it is), some time before Ragnarok, and last december.
