FS#4774 - copyright toggling system for books

my idea is a little check box on the editing page of a book that says copyright. this box can only be checked or unchecked by the original owner and will determine wether or not other players can edit it. as it is right now only the person who buys a book from jayose can write in it. as you can see this could be a problem especially for sales ledgers and appraisal\item information books that are shared by multiple merchants in the same guild or take for example submitting articles to the new hydlaa newspaper how is the editor going to mark them up? or even a guilds doing quests for dummies manual? it would be nice to have the author able to choose wether or not to lock his books and not just have the lock enfoced by arbitrary server mechanics.

As stated in the comments we already have public books and "private" books (only editable by the author). They seems to be enough for now.

the engine supports already public books which are a different basic item.

how about selling those? ;)
not an engine issue - changing to rules as it seems most fitting because we don't have some sort of db maintainance area

personally i think a single item and a checkbox would be better in the long run especially if your collaberating with another author "for example the newspaper in hydlaa" so that the editor can hand out the books and than lock them on the final release. or we could have all 3 types of books private togleable and public

i don't see the reason to do the same thing in two ways if you want to change the book type just buy another save and reload

mike loeven commented on 08.10.2010 15:12

you know just deleting both kinds of books and adding the feature would remove an extra database entry as well as preventconfusion eg wait did i give him the right one ?

weltall commented on 08.10.2010 16:10

and increase the data size in another table. that's not a valid reasoning

by how much, and would the convienance outweigh the space requirement increase?
