FS#5749 - of Laanx's Mind and of the leader properties

Since the ‘of Laanx’s Mind’ was the only +20 magic level buff in the game, it was understandable it has -20 STR modifier also.
But as new +10 magic level modifiers have been introduced, now it’s not fair to penalize ‘of Laanx’s Mind’ with so high strength reduction.

I suggest to completly remove the strength reduction from LM.


Other modifier is the ‘of the leader’ which gives you -10 STR, but only +30 CHA.
I think - compared to the other +10 modifier - ‘of the leader’ is overpenalized also.

(for example, of Peace gives +30 CHA and +30 WILL also, but no penalties.)

I suggest to remove the strength reduction from ‘of the leader’.
It has no reason you could explain by role play reasons either.

1. LM: I'd suggest to return these lovely +20 and not touch STR :P
2. Leader: No comments here, never used.

General comment: I feel they are so junky nerfed these days, so I don't even bother to carry around any but seduction things.

I think balancing the weapon modifiers so every way has higher pluses was a great idea BUT I have to agree that I dislike how it's been implemented.
Currently we have weapons with the following combinations in game:
Dark +10 -20str
Blue +10 +20int
Crystal +10 +20will
Red +10
Brown +10
Azure [no +10 currently known to me]

Dark is the ONLY one to receive a negative. LM has gone from being the most sought after modifier which was common to see being sold for 1mil+ to something you can buy for less than 200k. (I saw one being sold two days ago for 160k). LM knives was the one thing I still actively hunted for but I no longer feel any motivation to try and get them. It's a small thing, but when you already met most of your goals, these small things are what keeps you playing when RP isn't readily available.

At an absolute minimum the minus to str should be removed, though I'd be more in favour of seeing all ways having +20 variants with a similar negative. There were already so few things worth hunting for, and as much as the game is about RP, it is still a game and there needs to be a sense of gaining something from 'the best weapons a mage can find in the game. +10 doesn't feel like a big deal to me whereas the old +20 felt like enough to care about without being overpowered.


I'm not so sure about the peace / of the leader issue though. I always saw of the leader as an inferior step on the way to peace items, sort of in the way you now have +3 and +10 way modifiers. I do feel the stat modifiers in general could probably be looked at too though.

Actually I think it is good the Laanx's mind items are no longer so much more powerful than any other item in the world. I wondered for years how long it would take for this to happen. But when something is finally changed, why are the new stats not symmetric with respect to the six ways? Penalties are fine, but consider keeping the ways balanced at least in regards of booster items.

What you say makes sense, but making everything perfectly even and equal, feels to me it becomes a matematical game where everyone is identical and not a roleplay game. Magical items may have been created with those properties due to process used by the original inventors, maybe they didn't find another way to combine the magical properties of ex. Azure Way. This doesn't mean we cannot change the current effects, but when proposing "balance", try to think to make the ways different and unique, instead of all +20 in their respective stat.

I've reviewed the list and did changes removing the maluses for now, and making the bonuses more equal for each Way. I'm not sure this is the final version of it anyway.
