FS#552 - Chest container has no icon
The ‘Chest’ container has neither an icon, nor an assigned 3D model - although one should exist: I remember there was a model of a chest with opening and closing cover.
It just has no icon.

I don’t know of any chests on laanx myself, the art for the cvs chest is still included, art/things/items.zip/chest.spr, but my guess is the chest you found is going to be using a better model, which is not enabled yet.
One thing you could try, is add this to psclient.cfg:
Planeshift.Mount.jewelryzip = /this/art/things/jewelry.zip
Planeshift.Mount.furniturezip = /this/art/things/furniture.zip
(if they are not there) you may be using a svn config without those lines.
confirming this on laanx the chest that recently had no 3d mesh now is a dwarf and has no inventory icon
One of my alts owns a chest. It has - as Caarrie confirms - a dwarf model, the default for “no specific model assigned in the database”. So it is possibly a database issue.
I can demonstrate it to you, if we can somehow make an appointment to meet in game, e.g. via forum PM (LigH), or email via bugtracker contact.
A model is assigned, but possibly the outdated one with the constant open/close animation (art/chest.spr). I would recommend assigning art/furniture/chest_04.meshfact instead.
There is still no icon assigned; it seems that there is no icon available yet. The content of the icon may depend on the model chosen. In case of chest_04.meshfact, I’ll offer an icon here:
chest has a mesh and texture now, can be closed
It does still not have an icon though.
The chest may have a mesh and texture now. But the one which is currently in game (e.g. the one used as “Wood Stove” on the table in the Explorer Outpost kitchen, which regularly opens and closes, and is identical to the one I got) does not match its texture, the UV coordinates don’t match any texture related to chests.
There is no texture at all which matches this model. Because I am unable to import “*.meshfact” files again into Blender (not even viewmesh is able to load those), I tried to “reverse-engineer” on Laanx how a matching texture should look (by using a generic texture and marking areas on it according to the position on the model in-game), and no texture related to chests matches this order.
The closest match is an upside-down switched and slightly downscaled version of ‘chest.dds’, so I wonder if the original file did not have power-of-2 dimensions and got cropped during a conversion.
Furthermore, the front UV coordinates are not exactly straight (giving the texture an angle). So summing it all up, I would vote for replacing this model completely.
There are probably better meshes and for sure better textures already, e.g. I like the texture ‘world/ojaroad1/chestopen.dds’. I believe this one has a matching mesh, at least I was once able to load it in viewmesh (when there were *.spr files still). This chest could get the following icon:
chest_icon.dds
The icon has been added in game. We should then associate it to the chest object (pending).
