FS#1591 - Quality of "Kits" - Crafting

For novices in crafting i will just explain a bit what a kit is. after you combined a blade and a handle you get a “kit” which will becomes a sword or else if you let it on the Table.

well that said here is my thoughts:
the Quality of the kit = either the Q of the Handle if Q of Handle > Q of blade

= or the Q of Sword if Q of handle < Q of blade

i think it suits better to calculate:
Q of handle + blade /2 = Q of Kits

note: Axes Handles must then be crafted by players too, because otherwise as Trasok sells only Q50 handles that would ruin the market of axes.

The task blocks this from closing

Made it a feature request (and new).

Starg, added you as assignee, as a notification of this bug, with question to review if this makes sense. Feel free to ignore (and unassign). We will be trying to find better ways of getting bugs noted. This will not be the way probably. PLease let me know if you think this will work until a better way is found (pm on forum, or find me on IRC).

Lanarel, this is fine, because you need to have someone who knows more about how the crafting system works make the determination. I suggest we can close this feature request since it is along the lines of what we already plan as noted below.

Durwyn, thanks for the input. At the current time, the quality of all components is supposed to be used to make the quality of the kit, much like your suggested formula. However, it seems to work like Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, where every time we try to take a look at what's actually happening the results are skewed just by looking! :) In any case, your point about the quality of the handles is correct. I hope that we will eventually be able to make our own handles. (wood-working or carpentry skill?) I think we are going to have to do a poll on the forum to see how many different skills people actually want.

well if you are planning something like this, i will just wait for it to be done then :o

and for the poll, im awaiting it impatiently x)

A year later, but this will (I hope) get some attention in the near future. Currently, as you described, the resulting kit quality = quality of highest-quality item in the combine. I phrase it this way to illustrate the scope of the matter. This isn't unique to axes, but applies to all crafting, which includes cooking, alchemy, shields, armor, as well as weapons. Since there will likely always be components that are not made (plants, various parts, etc.) the only way we could reasonably factor the combine in the short term would be to exclude those components that are not crafted, and with axe and dagger handles bought from NPC's, this would have no change effect on axes and daggers, but would effect swords considerably as you'd then be required to make both a high-quality blade and a high-quality handle to produce a high-quality kit and final weapon.

As for crafting of other handles and various other parts items…just have to wait and see.

closed duplicate and added bovek

Due to the broad scope that averaging would impact, this cannot be reasonably done without a crafting system overhaul, for which IMO is not sufficient return.
