FS#1629 - Something to get rid of unwanted items, junk, trash, rubbish
As title describes: something to dispose of items, other than misusing a crafting container (such as oven or furnace) for that. For example a garbage bin.

Won't implement
Feature request, setting new.
Actually since this is a feature request I might as well ask for what I think would really help. I would like a single box in a furnace that would destroy anything that was dropped on it. That way all I would need to do is drop stack after stack on it. Anything dropped by accident would be too late, hope you didn’t need that! Perhaps in the interests of realism the hopper would have a capacity that required some time to process, a big hole on the top and a smaller outlet on the bottom so to speak. Some things might take longer to destroy and fuel (coal, wood) would increase the burn rate for a time.
Rewording title for clarity. Due to searching for another bug, I found this: http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=762#comment9859 so it seems Talad is against it… leaving open anyway.
Talad’s comment was about getting rid of quest items, not about items in general. So there’s no objection to having a “recycling” slot in the furnace that would turn anything (except quest items) to dust.
It might be a tad difficult to implement, since I think the current code assumes all slots in the furnace are created equal. It that’s the case, it might be easier to implement a separate “incinerator”, described to have ultra-hot fire than can reduce almost anything to ash.
Recent updates to crafting patterns makes it possible to dispose of unwanted items of any type in furnace, forge, oven, stove, grill, and pots. Postpone?
I think Bilbous was more hoping to have a quick way of making dust. Normally that will take a while I guess.
Sure, but at least now it’s easier, and you don’t have to stay close and watch the stuff burn…it’ll go on its own whether you stand there or not. I should mention that a stack of whatever becomes (1) Pile of Dust. That should also help.
Actually I am hoping more for an instant destruction box, unless there is an actual use planned for dust, perhaps in alchemy – magical powders – I think that destroying unwanted items in slots that people might need for practical purposes is a little counter-productive. However since this is a feature request it is likely to be postponed indefinitely without having to be actually set to postponed. I am happy enough with the way things are and am grateful Bovek is working on these things.
I am not sure that the initial description is still accurate as changes have been made to stacking as well as crafting containers since this request was made.
Bilbous: feel free to make a new request for an item disposal system other than misusing crafting containers, and request this one closed. Or I could just edit the details for this one.
I edited the details (just so anyone reading the discussion above know that it used to be about stack related things as well).
I’m closing this because there are numerous ways to dispose of virtually anything now, and beyond those, transience when implemented will be the end-all of such items simply by dropping them someplace.
