FS#1632 - Crafting books are incomprehensible

This is something I consider to be a very bad bug but set it to wish list if you do not agree. The way that the crafting books are laid out it is almost impossible to see what you need to do to complete a single crafter finished product. With weapon making you have to first scan through the list to find the "shape command" which tells you how many ingots/stock of which type you need to heat up and hammer for an alpha blade or handle. THen you have to scroll through and find the next step whatever it might be. This is completely counter-intuitive. If I want to make a short sword I would like the instructions to be all in one section about making short swords. At the very least I would like to be able to sort the lists based on final product desired.

Cooking is the same. You have the jobs listed by the action taken and so you need to consult several different sections just to discover that step 3 of 5 is beyond your ability. I can slice carrots and I can do something with grilled carrot but I cannot convert a carrot into a grilled carrot.

Sometimes it seems to me that the game is really some sort of alien psychology experiment and not what it purports to be.

The task blocks this from closing

As of now the crafting book layout have been improved and it shows the full recipe from starting to the end. Closing

since crafting info in books is by lvl and not by what you can make, this is a feature request.

Fair enough. I would suggest that even if there is no product you can finish it would be nice to be able to collect in an orderly manner those parts that you can. I find ordering by action type completely confusing. It would be helpful to have place holders for steps you are unable to finish as well but I guess that would be asking for too much information. It does seem to me that, for example, learning sword-craft you would see the master going through all the steps in his day to day work so that even though you could not duplicate them you would have an idea what they were.

The working with Stocks book is similarly confusing.

IF you are able to read the books, you are lucky. Mine, if not completly blank, look like the following –> http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/1762/magicalsnap200807161831iu8.png This had been reported before, but closed because it wasn't able to reproduce. Talk to the players and you will find out that I am not the only one with those 'type' of books.

That problem is unrelated to this bug and related to http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=1581, http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=1957, http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=902 as well as http://www.hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=1352 Perhaps these bugs could be collected and have only one of them open. That way this feature request can remain on target. 902 is perhaps not the same as it was closed as not a bug due to the 0 crafting level. I may have missed a few others that were not catgorized to crafting.

It would already help a lot if the crafting books would be resizable. At least on my screen one instruction does not fit in one line, which makes it hard to read and hard to find information.

Drunk Hammerwielder commented on 15.11.2008 01:49

I think for the best results that Crafting books should be sorted first by item/part type and then action with each final product having its own paragraph or section and parts having a subsection. Pages would be nice too instead of having one long scroll; they are books and not scrolls after all?

nobody special commented on 04.02.2010 03:27

another problem with the books is that the window is not wide enough and the word wrapping is inelegant to say the least.

John commented on 05.07.2010 10:34

Think sword crafting is bad try one of the shield crafting books, I think they are the longest crafting books in the games with the most variable parts. I'm sure the cooking books are pretty bad too.
