FS#1654 - Inconsistentcy with /me in different displays

Last night I was chatting with a person in my guild and noticed the following:

Guild tab in chat window: “<charactername> does action and says blah”

In speech bubble over characters head: “/me does action and says blah”

Is this the expected behavior?

Works OK now.

this was reported on the old tracker ages ago, and has not been fixed yet

UNTESTED patch (this fixes it clientside btw):
http://httbird.blackintel.org/chatbubble_fs1654.patch

Can someone who has a network-accessible test server test this for me please?

peeg commented on 12.06.2008 19:03

Tested the patch, it does what it’s supposed to do.

I’m not sure if that’s the intended behavior though. In main chat actions like “/my feet hurt” or “/me laughs” don’t trigger chatbubbles.
Why should they do in the other channels?

Kaerli Stronwylle commented on 12.06.2008 19:08

No clue…I can make another patch to turn them off completely for /me or /my…

Caarrie commented on 12.06.2008 19:23

Peeg, Kaerli did you in options turn on the me chat bubbles?

Caarrie commented on 12.06.2008 19:28

Looks like even with “me” chat bubbles on /me does not show in a bubble

Qia Fask commented on 15.06.2008 20:35

I think that “/me does something” should show up in a chat bubble as:

*Qia does something*

Same for “/my eyes close” would be:

*Qia’s eyes close*

Often times when there is busy chat from several fronts, and you only want to know who is talking to you in your immediate vacinity (e.g. a guild meeting, wedding, etc.), it is useful to just close off the communication window and look around at a group near you. But when you do that you miss out on /me and /my, which is annoying.

I liked Qia’s idea and went to implemented it:

Caarrie is right, the chatbubbles for “/me” and “/my” in main don’t show up. Will look at that later

Committed to trunk (r1875), thanks Celestar.

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 08.07.2008 07:57

Hmm, if I do “/me pulls your nose” a bubble shows up on each client: “pulls your nose”. Is this correct?

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 19.07.2008 00:57

Marking in progress until there is a reply.

I noticed in-game this weekend that the chat bubble had:

* <charactername> does blah *

I think this works well. Should this ticket be closed?

Tested on laanx with latest updated client, and it all works ok.
‘/me jumps’ shows ‘jumps’ in a bubble (not perfect, but ok)
‘/tell myname /me jumps’ shows ‘*myname jumps*’ in a bubble.
Closing bug.
