FS#1957 - Blank crafting books
I (still) have problems reading the crafting books. Which leads into the following:
- Working with Stocks – No problems
- Book of Blades – empty
- Notes of an Axemaker – empty
Sometimes I get weird characters listed in the two mentioned books, or this –> http://img377.imageshack.us/img377/1762/magicalsnap200807161831iu8.png If I read the book ‘Working with Stock’ first and afterwards either one of the other two, the contend of ‘Working with ..’ will appear and stay until I relog.
This is not related to my PC. First, it happends on three different type of PCs. Second, my ALT is able to read the books.
Caarrie mentioned in a another posting: “since crafting info in books is by lvl and not by what you can make …“. My ALT, crafting levels are at 0, is able to read the hole content of the books.

Couldn't verify, crafting books are mostly invisible to me without the skills, and all visible with.

I have the same problems with both books, and level 19 SC, and 8 Axe making. I even have the npc data listed in the screenshot appearing some times on mine. Book of Blades and Notes of an Axe maker. The rest of my books work fine, Catalog of shields, 3 Rivet, Golden, Wheel, Working in the kitchen, working with stock.
One more thing my books changed after the sword and axes mix up where you could craft a sword using the Axe book and vise versa. After they fixed that bug my books went blank, hope that helps track things done a little more.
hmm my book of blades show blank or show npc info like name number of deaths suicides and pos notes of a axemaker does the same thing sm lvl 75 bs 65 am 22

I haven't managed to get this bug, but three confirmations should be enough.
I had problems with all crafting technique books on 0.4.00 (Character: "Loyni Loy"), but now (0.4.02) they're fixed.
Werner, maybe you should check again, in case the books are ok for too now.
Sorry, but there is no change. The books are still blank to me.
Taloth petitioned about seeing XML data in Book of Blades and Notes of an Axe Maker. I've looked myself and had the same behaviour. When either book is opened first, I see XML data on NPC's, including a "number of deaths" count. Once a "good" book is opened, opening either of these faulting books displays the contents of the now closed book. I'm running PS under Windows XP.
Player of Taloth. I run a linux based box and i did a fresh install to make sure my files were okay. This sadly didn't solve the problem.
I am carrying 2 cooks, working with stock, notes of an axemaker and book of blades. Cooking 15, metallurgy 500, sword making 100, axe making 100. They were what I had set when trying other things. With those skills both cooking books and working with stock are fine. Book of blades and notes of an axe maker varied between blank, gibberish, copy of the last good book looked at and a list of npc.
If I set my sword making skill to the range 1 through 5 then both book of blades and notes of an axe maker would show the correct content. If I set my sword making to 6 or higher then both weapons books would exhibit the above behaviour. Setting my sword making to 5 or lower and both books would show the correct content again.
books are still bugged.
I will get the information for the Catalog of Shields book, Working in the Kitchen and Working with Stocks books listed in the Book of Blades at different times. Sometimes I'll instead just get some random looking text in different books that includes some characters that look like little boxes. I've talked with players in game who have the same problem.
