FS#2070 - ability to search by name for /item window

the gm /item window has many items listed in it, it would be much easier if you could just type the name of the item needed and it would show you the 3d mesh and the icon as if you had found it in the catagory selection section. this is very helpful for trying to see what something looks like without having to spawn it. as more and more items start to be added to laanx less and less people will be able to use the /item window to find items and will use /item <name> instead but that is a waste if they just want to view an item and have no use for it.

The task blocks this from closing

i dont agree with the closing of this since gms can now spawn items this request seems even more valid, also the gms atm dont have a way to search outside the game for names of items.

I agree that this feature request is becoming more and more important. However, I would implement it a bit differently.
In the item window, there should be a search field that works similar to the /who lookup which filters the list of players being online.
So, for instance you could enter "*ham" and it would internally work with the query

*ham*

As a result, it would reduce the list of items to only those categories with at least one entry (so the results are still categorized) and in those categories only to those items are listed which suffice the query.
So the above query would give us
-crafting stuff
– hammer
-cooking
– ham
– hamburger
-funny fish
– Encrusted short fish of the rusty hammer

administrative functions should not be added to the game GUI if not extremely needed. What is requested here can be placed in webconsole or other tools. It's extremely easy to create such a query in a php page, and I don't see why we should make that window a lot more complex just for harvesting for bugged items. Bugged items should be searched in dedicated web pages on web Console. For GMs we can easily add a similar web page on gm console site.

Web console contains a lot of useful functions, but we are not going to migrate them all in game gui.

I prefer the solution of simply organizing the information better within the same interface which would require no new code and could be done by caarrie and submitted directly to Talad.

I agree with the feature request as while having it in the web console will help if you just want to look at the items info, if you want to spawn the item you still have to manually go through the catergories and search for it, this is where the in game search will help.

So I think this should be added to both the game and web console.

I don't mind browsing through the item window's lists but I've noticed not all items are there. I'd use the search function to know if something exists in the DB. This would be helpful for events and testing bugs because then we can come up with more varied rewards and better equipment for event characters as well as test boosts and bugs related to them.

Being able to search for items in that insanely huge list would be incredibly useful. Our list of items has become very large, and will only get bigger. In particular, as more uniquely named things become part of our world, it may not be obvious what category to look in. Not everyone will have webconsole access.

The GUI would not have to be complex…a box where you type in search terms, and it narrows the list down to only those which match. It would do this as the user typed (waiting a few moments to avoid pointless searching). Something along the lines of the Evolution and Thunderbird email programs' find feature, or…really, a lot of things these days.

Even though items are now better categorized, it is still sometimes difficult to find an item when you do not know where to look. I agree with Kayden that this would be useful (and just filter what is already there client side). Marking this prospect task (but confirm with devs first before implementing).
