FS#2332 - Spell check (magic)
I would like to suggest some kind of spell absorbing spell or systemic counter to discourage or prevent people from casting spells on unappreciative people.
Some people are so rude as to cast spells (healing or divination) upon others when the person expressly asks them to stop.
See http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32501.0 for past discussion.

Additional comments about closing:
Closing this feature request as
"fixed" because so far our
magic resistance system allow to resist
the effects of spells, including healing
magic and such. However the point of
magic resistance is not to discourage a
drive-by-buff attitude and development
of IC game features should not be driven
by the need to discourage annoying
behaviors by the players. If a player
behave in an not respectful way a
petition should be filed and the GM team
can deal with the problem OOCly.
marking new
I concur, this is called drive-by buffing and is a way to be annoying in role-playing intensive games. If I was to troll the crap out of PlaneShift right now, this is how I would do it.
Adding to the list of magic bugs, ‘whining’ category.
If the unwanted casting is (OOC) trolling, complain to a GM.
If the unwanted casting is part of roleplay, complain to the character.
Drive-by buffing is just a minor annoyance and should be handled as such. It does not warrant adding new game mechanics in my humble opinion.
(Having ways to avoid/deflect/resist damaging magic would make magic combat more interesting, and that could be applied against drive-by buffing as well, of course. But I wouldn’t advocate such a mechanism just for the purpose of preventing drive-by buffing.)
