FS#2423 - Materials turning directly to dust in the furnace

I have had 8 items in a row turn directly to dust when place in the furnace, no more then 3 seconds after placing stock or ingot in the furnace they are ALL turning directly to stock not only stopping my ability to lvl but also put a good dent in my inventory of materials. When this happend i was at the furnace against the back wall on upper room of trasok’s forge in Ojaveda.

The task blocks this from closing

how did you place your items in the furnace? 5ores + 3stock? tell me so i can try to reproduce.
also did you have the right Book in mind when you put them into the furnace? if not, then this is a normal result. :(

ok srry for the delay, I believe i had 6 stock and 2 ingot in the furnace, the server had just crahed and i reloaded, when i reloaded it had changed to book of axe in mind when i had book of stock in mind before… i started to smelt not noticing books had switched and i got standard messages in green stating i beging to work on steel stock/ingot, as i was putting in the last items they started to change directly to dust in order i had put em in. This same thing has actually happend to me once more the same day i orriginally reported this bug. I am aware that when wrong book used items will dust, but it is not normally that fast and the system usually warns (youre not sure whats going to happen…) this was not what happend.

I was hit by this the other night. The following happened to me:

1. Put 16 plat ore in the furnace (GREEN MESSAGES APPEARED, and I was tired so didn’t pay attention to what it said)
2. Noticed I had book of blades in mine, switched to working with stock.
3. Pulled a single ore out of the furnace, and again got a GREEN message about how I stopped working on it, so I put it back.
4. Got called away from my computer and came back to one molten plat and 15 empty slots in the furnace.

I then contacted a GM to figure out what happened… the original /petition response was not very helpful, but I put more details into the help tab and everything was worked out, and I understood what happened. Thank you to whoever was patient with me at that point. The GM who answered my /petition said that I should have had a system message about the items turning to dust, which were not present.

I then went to Gug to buy some more ore from a guild mate… But had to relog to get to hydlaa since the map change to East Hydlaa was broken (and no teleport from the Oja side that I can find). Got to Gug and started to smelt my plat ore.

1. Put ore in furnace and saw GREEN messages. (Didn’t check the book in-mind, since I had just used the furnace 15 minutes ago and didn’t change it)
2. Watched as my ore started turning to dust, and salvaged 8 of them by removing them quickly.
3. Checked my in-mind book… it had reverted to Book of Blades.
4. Checked my system log, still no message about my stuff turning to dust.

I see two issues that, in my opinion, need to be addressed:

1. Why did my book in my mind slot change on relog?
2. PLEASE change the text to either Yellow or Red when you are going to dust an item. GREEN implies that everything is ok and doing what is expected.

Setting new.

Edit:
Mythryndel: the book changing back made me think of a server crash. Which made me just remember that all recent server crashes happen in relation to crafting. Could it be that the server crashed?

Eric commented on 14.11.2008 19:33

Unless it crashed while I was logged out, I do not believe that is what happened to me. I was traveling from Akkaio to Gugrontid. The pass between ojaroad1 and East hydlaa was grey and missing, so I logged out and back in. The pass was visible again, so I continued on my way. I will play with this a bit more and see if I can reproduce the book switch issue.

Unable to reproduce. If this bug still exists, it would belong to Engine crafting and remove me from assignment.
