FS#2571 - Mixing nuts is successful but does not give practice
My char has cooking skill level 2.
Emptying sacks of nuts is successful and gives practice points in cooking.
Combining an allowed amount of nuts results in the following (red) error messages:
- You started to combine items, but could not go any further.
- You are not sure what to do with this.
It does not give practice points. But you receive a “Mixed Nuts” item of average quality (64/64).
Is it intentional that the more complex activity does not give practice success? Or is it at all correct that you receive the expected item, although the process looks like failed, regarding error messages being displayed?

WOrks as intended
Same result for cooking skill level 3.
Assigned Ellille because I was told she is the (only) one who knows the details.
unassigning till confirmed
true reassigning
As I understand it, combining never results in exp.
I suggest subsequently adding salt and mixing in a bowl to make “Salted Mixed Nuts” granting exp points for mixing.
(Should this be a feature request?)
Mixing nuts is still “successfully unsuccessful”.
Make them into “Chopped Nuts”. That’ll give you some practice and exp.
Nice idea, but not the kernel of the topic…
I would be unsuccessful if I did not use the correct amount of ingredients, or not the correct container, or not the correct method.
But I used the the correct amount of ingredients, the correct container, and the correct method - exactly as documented in the Cooking book. And I received a new item. So I was successful. And so I expect a reward.
It seems to me that possibly (a) the process of combining itself is not checked for a success, or (b) the lack of “combinability” after combining overrides the success before it can trigger a reward.
I think the problem here is that you are expecting mixed nuts to be the “finished article”.
While this is true in RL this is not necessarily the case in Planeshift.
All crafting combinations result in a new item, and non (afaik) result in practice or experience.
Using an implement, like a spoon or scoop will reward you with both practice and experience.
There is no utensil used to create “mixed nuts”, therefore no reward.
So I have to decide between the money or RP use on one hand, and the experience on the other. “Chopped mixed nuts” give experience but sell with a lower price.
Now I may agree with “Won’t fix” / “Not a bug” closing.
I am told combining does not award experience, so this works as intended.
