FS#2643 - Falling off Gugrontid

Several have experienced an issue in-game where walking around Gugrontid shifts you somewhere unexpected. The result is in the range of inconvenience at having to climb Gugrontid again, to falling to your death for no reason. I am extracting information from this forum topic for items I have not personally observed.

I can’t speak to the original poster, but the other two (I am one of them) that responded are running Linux. Dajoji responded that he has run Windows and Mac without this issue, but observed another character as he experienced this issue. Please change the OS if it is not a *nix problem.

Race does not seem to matter, but simply walking or running around Gugrontid randomly causes your character to end up someplace unexpected. I experience this frequently by the smith. Indications that I have experienced this are that my screen stops refreshing. If i keep walking, sometimes I can recover and find that I am outside of the city. Other times I must relog to find myself in DR or outside the city.

Yes I get this when I am up there.

I created a new Kran character. I walked down the slope for 20 seconds then fell. It appears to be random places whilst walking around.

Using: 32-Bit Linux (Slackware)

This sounds to me like another duplicate of  FS#1838 ; in the forum thread you linked someone mentioned it happening near the smith anvil, that is exactly where one of the places where I can consistently reproduce 1838 - see http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=1838#comment9980. This could well be from the same cause as  FS#1749  and  FS#1796 , but I can’t say that for sure.

What do you think?

Yes I do think is might have something to do with out of bounds bug\colliding with objetcs, but under a test on a Windows machine I did not have the problem, only under Linux.

It is possibly related to 1838, but I have not experienced this anywhere but gugrontid. I do not remember running into anything when this happened, but the area leading to the furnace is crowded and it is entirely possible that I did collide with something. I will try to reproduce this in-game today and report back.

There is definitely something to the collision aspect. I could replicate this within 30 seconds just by bumping into anything and everything I could find. I got no logs in my system tab though. I just spawed at a point outside the city (same point I think) every time this happened. The only difference was the elevation depending on where I was in the city… the higher I was, the more it hurt to be relocated and fall to the ground. Any level higher than the smith and I was guaranteed a trip the the DR. I don’t know if it matters, but it seemed to happen more frequently when I was backing into things vs when I ran into them moving forward.

I saw Miadon fall randomly all over the keep. He fell in pos 21.42 94.18 4.41 the first time and I thought maybe there was a hole in the map or something (hence, I wrote down the position) but I then he kept falling faster than I could enter /pos :-[.

Lets at least make this confirmed. If those having this problem in more places in gugrontid could try this on another map, it may help finding out of this is another instance of the bug Vorne mentioned. It does sound like that, as getting out of bounds would make you fall of the map and be teleported to a point on the map. There may be another bug involved, computing damage for the height difference (which it should not do).

I can confirm that this happened to me on the ezpcusa server in Trasok’s. I ended up teleported just outside of town on the path and it killed me. I did not have any messages about out of bounds, but I didn’t in gugrontid on laanx either. I seemed to get stuck for a moment bumping into things upstairs just before this happened. I was crafting sabres and was going from the anvil to the quench tank.

I personally did not see it, but another in my guild complained about the same thing happening to him, putting him out in the same spot just outside town, but he didn’t die.

I would personally close this duplicate of PS#1838, as I said the smith anvil there is one of the places I could reproduce it every time.

Confirming that the problem is gone with a client built from stable, while still around with the released client.
Thus, duplicate of PS#1838 and the ‘leaf replaced’ related issues.
