FS#271 - ability for GMs to use the old death duel system

For GM events when we are morphed to npcs it would be nice for the players to be able to just kill us like normal npcs without the new dueling system interfearing with that [so we die and no confirm on it]

The task blocks these from closing

How does this interfere? When players get the popup they only have to click “yes”.

Caarrie commented on 20.09.2007 01:36

yes but that disrupts the RP event imo it would be easier to apply a flag so that gms can just be killed

Thom commented on 20.09.2007 02:04

Meh, I’m not sure. Could some Event GMs give input?

Caarrie commented on 20.09.2007 02:07

how about we let kayden see what he can do if this is even possible

Kenneth Graunke commented on 20.09.2007 06:17

Urrrrrrrrrrrrgh. I absolutely refuse to add a GM flag for this. I can see, perhaps, if you’re morphed to be a monster, you want the behavior to be like an NPC. Fine. We could disable it for non-player races.

Testers should not assigned tasks to developers, especially in cases of a feature request. The administrators of the bug tracker should define if a feature request is proper or not.
Testers should simply mark it to new.

Since Kayden has already looked a bit at this, let’s keep it valid, though.

adding dependency of  bug 706  as they are very similar in requests

Removing assignment of developers to feature requests, requested by Talad.

It would make sense to have all GMs attackable if they turned off invincible, just like they can attack anyone.
It indeed interrupts events when players have to /challenge and click “yes” for really killing a rat, and not just defeat it.

I am not a GM, but I have been involved in more than one GM event where this interfered greatly with the flow of RP.

For example on the GM event that released the Necromancers, there were some huge battles going on with the wizards, more than a dozen people fighting… and many of them were running around while others are being killed, because they couldn’t figure out why they were unable to hit the enemy. People were stopping in the middle of the battle and explaining in the group how to deal with this problem, while still being attacked by the enemy.

Everyone was in a group, but it makes no difference.

Same thing happened during the fight with the teleporting rogue / thief in the Plaza, although this time there were tons of people shouting OOCly about what to do [challenge the rogue].

It is horribly disruptive to RP, realism and GM events … even costing some characters their lives [when they stop to explain how to fight].

There should definitely be some “Attackable” option the GM can enable and disable at will. I don’t see why this could possibly cause any side-effects.

committed an attackable flag to trunk which makes uneccesary to /challenge to attack gm so they can be attacked like how they attack others. there is no kill steal protection as it’s supposed to be for gm chars with the flag on and exp is given depending on hp taken from the gm

I tested this in trunk a few days ago. WIth GM invincible, Acraig could not attack. WIth gm not invincible and not attackable, acraig had to challenge and could then kill Venge. WIth attackable, no challenge was needed. Could not test if exp was awarded, since chat window is not working.
