FS#3421 - software sound doesn't work properly

don’t really know if you can call this a bug report or what but anyway, the thing with openal is that maybe about 50% of the players don’t have a sound card that can handle openal properly or not at all, i belong to the first group, works for a litle while then poof all sound is gone.
also the software sound is gone and the only way i get perfect sound even if it crackles at first like in 0.4.03 and older.
what i’m saying is that and from what i heard of lanarel is someone forgot to add the software sound plugin with this rc so when you pick software and go ig you don’t have any sound at all, even when ressting sound in setup you get a window telling you it’s disabled.

system specs are:
pentium4 HT 3.2 @ 3.31
2gb ddr ram
epox 4pda5+ with realtek alc850
winxp sp3 with full updates and drivers, to my knowlige anyway.

Sort of fixed.

The openal problems itself we cannot fix (drivers issues related to hardware), but the software renderer is now added again, so it should be in the next release (candidate). Will set this ready-to-test, but cannot be tested until release :)

Elvi, how are things now?

if your asking about software sound then no go yet, still quiet
if its about openal, stuff seems abit different but i havn’t heard 1 npc yet :P

openal still does not work on some linux’s. i helped someone get their game going on fedora 12 tonight and uninstalling openal did the trick. I installed it on my mandriva 2010.0 and the game stopped working complaining about openal so I uninstalled it again. I have sound disabled in pslaunch so I do not know if the software sound renderer works.

software render doesn’t work at all. it’s not part of ps code base.

well the game defaults to openal so if it does not work is there anything that can make the sound work? I had it working during the testing phase on EZ in 5.0 but it stopped shortly after. I guess this was due to a bug in the openal which was supposed to be fixed in the next version according to one report I saw around here somewhere.

By the way, I always get error messages about …soundsys.null not being loaded but the game does run (somewhat poorly.) Of course I get a lot of other errors too.

NPC voice too fast is a CS/software renderer bug which i can reproduce. Not sure if we can build a workaround.

But “mad lag” should be gone and software renderer should work for everything except NPC voices.

it’s a bug in cs it isn’t fixed and botanic testers should close bugs not you

Seems this works for Elvi now (or is unnecessary). Closing
