FS#3835 - Value of goods in trade window

I would like to suggest an additional widget in the trade window that gives the total (NPC-trade) value of the goods offered, similar to the one for total tria offered. With the quality based pricing system, this could help to lower confusion and make trade and economy flourish. The obvious but neglectable downside is that players could abuse this to identify an enchanted items value without finding an NPC merchant. A solution to that problem could be found when thinking about a feature to identify such items (based on intelligence, dweomer detection, factions with merchants or whatever).

I'd have to check, but I believe all "special" weapons, as in "Longsword of Talad's Arm" or similar are linked to their base item (Longsword in my example) and thus the base item price might be used in such a feature to protect the discovery aspect of this. That said, I think there are pros and cons to revealing NPC value in player-to-player trades. To one side I want to say "caveat emptor" and leave it at that, and on the other I realize that the dynamic pricing does make it a bit harder to nail down what might be considered "wholesale" value of an item. Ideally I'd like to think players place their own value on things independent of what NPC's offer, but that's likely not the reality. As factions and other factors may at some point be applied to NPC offer prices, this feature request may worsen the issue when buyer and seller see different values because one or the other may get more (or less) favorable offers. Additionally, such a feature may create issues if/when volume pricing adjustments are applied, and there may be situations where a character may get different offers depending on which NPC one is dealing with.

Feature Request

Good point. Considering dynamic NPC prices in the future, I should be more specific and request an estimate for the MINIMAL value of goods offered.

It's a good idea regardless, but ATM, player prices are so insanely far off the NPC prices that this feature would only work for things that aren't traded a lot, anyway, because they can be bought off NPCs.
Looking at the player markets, there is hardly a weapon going for less than a few thousand T, glyphs never below 20k with some even in the several-hundred thousand T area, gold ore being similarly skewed, etc.. IOW, the player economy would need to be balanced in a way that it yields prices at least somewhat comparable to the NPC prices for this to be of any use.

I would like to state the motivation for above request is not the pricing of rare and enchanted objects, but rather a simple aid in trade of crafted items and ingredients or materials. I think it is common sense not to give away such items below the NPC price (unless it is given for free). Even though the quality dependence of the prices seems to follow a simple exponential law, it is difficult to accurately estimate, as even fractions of quality points lead to some spread in the result.

Could have a button called "appraise" in the trade window, which will use your intelligence or ranks in the specific item (example weapons) to give you a value.
