FS#444 - Magic one hit kill

Thanks to Proglin for testing this with me.

Proglin and I were playing around with some magic and after he yielded to me I shot one more “Taste of Death” at him (strange enough that I still could do that). He died just when the spell finished casting, instand death. This seems to happen only after he yielded.

My DarkWay is very weak, tho, only 12(13) (dark way ring) and Proglin was at more than 80% of HP… We tested that again in the death realm, I shot one energy arrow at him, he shot a few at me, then he yielded, one more Taste of Death from me and he died again.

Since this seems to be an exploit I suggest to set this report secret, thanks

Cebot

Kayden said not a bug, split part of this report to  FS#1605  .

Assigning, marking private etc.

Because it sounds a bit like the 'final blow' implemented after someone is almost dead in a duel, I wondered if this is magic only. I suggest to test the following:
- two players are in a duel
- one /yields (with a lot of health)
- other hits once with melee (or something that would not kill the other quickly)

Xordan skipped Arianna :) But still, this bug is assigned, marking it as such.

It is those private bugs. The standard ways of handling bugs do not work well for those at the moment :)

Caarrie commented on 06.02.2008 15:56

Lanarel can we get more devs assigned here so that maybe someone can review this and see what is going on?

Acraig should finish getting data on the test server so we can test this. My guess is many of the magic bugs may not occur with trunk, but we cannot know now. I will add him here (as Xordan seems to be good things elsewhere).

This is exactly as I would expect it to work. /yield ends the battle in defeat (per Xordan's specificiation.) If you damage your opponent once they're defeated, you instantly kill them. One-hit-kill is definitely NOTABUG.

However, it may make sense for the server to interrupt Cebot's spell when Proglin is defeated.

"However, it may make sense for the server to interrupt Cebot's spell when Proglin is defeated."

Agreed there.

If any of the devs plans to work in this bug, please set status to 'in progress'. If not, please advice who to assign this to.

Caarrie commented on 21.03.2008 10:28

changing this bug to public as the devs have said this works as expected.

Orgonwukh commented on 12.04.2008 13:06

Maybe this is the same bug, maybe some other:
If you defeat a player in duel and you got the message 'You've defeated Player!', you can kill him by casting *any* spell (even curing ones) after the message 'This will likely kill your opponent! Are you sure you want to attack?' appeared.

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 28.05.2008 06:35

Orgonwukh: you are speaking of  FS#242 .

Since the original report was denied by kayden, closing this, and splitting the remaining part to  FS#1605 .

Kenneth Graunke commented on 28.05.2008 06:55

@Vornne: it sounds like he said you can actually kill players by casting a curing spell…which is very broken, if it's true. I said removing the "This will likely kill your opponent!" message would be tricky…but it certainly shouldn't actually kill your opponent unless it does real HP damage. :)

Steven Schwartfeger commented on 29.05.2008 00:42

OK ;-) but "Taste of Death" isn't a healing spell, just a rather ineffective attack spell, last I tried.

edit: ineffective as in not very much damage, not no damage at all.
