Has anyone managed to add the following client side? If so, then where can I get them? If not, then where in the code should I look to make the changes? (I currently have not yet downloaded the source code since I’m on a 56k dialup modem, but I will download it for the sole purpose of attempting to add this if I need to, even though I’m not very good at C programming languages)

I think it was more like:
/target furnace
/use 8 iron
/use 2 coal
/combine
/take 10 molten steel
/target stock casting
/use 10 molten steel
etc. Perhaps that is too exploitable for implementation but
Can we have kippers for breakfast, mommy dear, mommy dear
which is to say if you don’t ask you have less chance to receive.

It is my belief that the current drag and drop click fest doesn’t fit with the spirit of the game; furthermore, because of the lack of /command shortcuts, crafting is the slowest working skill that can be practiced in the game. If it did fit, then you would be clicking on a monster each time you wanted to swing your weapon for an attack; however, that is not the current case.
Please make the practicing of crafting as easy as practicing weapons, magic, and armor usage.

On IRC a few people said that this would be dangerously close to becomming a bot; however, the user would still need to watch the items in the furnace/forge to keep the items from getting too hot and turning to dust. (Additional code would be needed for a user to make a bot that keeps items from turning to dust, but if they know how to do that much then they most likely already posses the knowledge of how to transfer stuff back and forth from the crafting containers which the current bots probably already do.)
Ask yourself this: Would you rather have a shortcut made for ‘/dig iron’ or would you prefer to be forced to type out ‘/dig iron’ every time you wanted to mine for iron?
Thank you for your time.

726 | PlaneShift | FS#726 - Redesign/Add to the Crafting GUI. | Medium |
Setting new.
Kayden, TomT, please cooperate for this.
"Kayden, TomT, please cooperate for this."
Not sure what you mean Arianna - also not sure what this "task" is about - is there a bug somewhere that we need to fix or is this just a feature request - either way I do not understand the urgency
I read this on the forum and did not think much about it.
There is no urgency.
This is a feature request.
The report has feature request has tipology, and normal as priority.
Kayden is focusing on GUI and since this is about that, but about crafting too, it is necessary that you two talk to each other for achieving a good work.
Thank you again for your time.
If the reason I requested a better crafting GUI still eludes you, then maybe another quote will help you better understand the problem with the current crafting GUI.

While I am totally >:( that gold prices have gone down, that's just the way it goes so I'm fine with it. The devs have to try and balance things out. But I just about wrecked my wrist training my metallurgy to 20 with all the mouse clicks it took. I have no desire to train it to 30 now to make gold ingots again. From what I hear crafting is even tougher and takes longer. I never got started with crafting and I don't see doing so in the near future.

Thank you for listening and please keep up the great work.
This is way to broad for feature request. Please open new task with the specific feature defined. I am not going to redesign crafting thru bug reporting sorry.
Closing.
Very well, I will resubmit a more formal and structured request.
However.
This wasn’t a request to redesign the entire crafting system.
Just a request to redesign the GUI of the crafting system to remove the numerous yet needless clicks and drags that are primarily associated with the crafting containers and secondly the other stations by either adding to the crafting GUI or adding shortcut commands and allowing the targeting of all crafting equipment. (All of which has been discussed in the forum links that where provided.)
Thank you for your time:
Tontow
Mordaan's comment about nearly wrecking his wrist by training metallurgy is a good point, and I do think we should ponder the crafting GUI—perhaps not here, though. The underlying crafting system is very good—the whole process, with both tools and skill, a series of transformations and steps—it's unique, decently realistic, and well developed.
One small change we could do to make it easier is allowing multiple container windows to be open at once…it's a good idea in general, and would probably reduce the number of clicks required considerably…especially if we allowed movement between two world containers directly (i.e. furnace→stock casting without having to go through inventory). Mind you, allowing that would require a bunch of work server-side in SlotManager, which is notoriously tricky to get right…and I'm not even sure how to implement it on the client side. But it would be a good idea.
There may be other improvements we can do to the UI of crafting, while keeping the same good system & process.
As requested I have resubmitted: http://hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=726
And I agree with Kenny; The underlying crafting system is quite good. But please, please do something to save all of our wrists.
Thank you for opening another bug report. I will put this as dependent of 726, since there is some good info here.
