FS#6386 - incompatibile skin

i have seen people who log and quit(crashing) in second due using incompatibile skin
update and repair should set skin to default elves .reinstaling ps propably will not help because these configuations are in diferent folder

There is a case when a client fails to load because a player has done a clean install of the client and the "PlaneShift.GUI.Skin.Selected = xxxxxxx.zip" line in planeshift.cfg has a skin defined which is no longer present in the client directory.

I think a warning that says "You have selected a UI skin which is no longer available so elves will be used next time you start the client." with an 'ok' box which closes the client and forces a change in the cfg file to "PlaneShift.GUI.Skin.Selected = elves.zip". Or a similar warning with an 'ok' box which forces the loading of the elves skin and allows the client to load normally should be used. This way the player will know that a previously used skin missing. This would also be useful if for any reason a skin released with the client is removed and would always either load the default skin or tell a player what is wrong.

If the skin is really no longer compatible with the client and causes a crash when it tries to load the UI this is a little different. By default an "update and repair" should not reset the skin if a skin bundled with the client is used. This is because any skin loaded with the client should not crash the client and if one is it should be reported to us so we can look and try and work out what is really happening. A little more information on exactly what skins people are using would be useful. If they are using custom skins and/or modded clients it is really their responsibility to ensure what they are using will work.

I have this issue. I get to see the place i logged out of and then planeshift crashes. I'm using a mac running 10.9 I can post the crash report if it helps

Just to be clear: Fixing this issue is easy for the player. Just run pslaunch, have a look at the info/desriptions of the skins and pick one that support version 0.6.1. If you are using a custom/ unofficial skin, try to look for updates on the forums or mod page where you got it from. (E.g. http://greatshift.111mb.de/ - for these mods, updates are alrady available)
