FS#7914 - Dropping an item in an occupied container slot doesn't do anything

affected version: 0.7.38 (couldn’t be set yet as the version)

When trying to drop an item on an occupied container slot, the item remains “in limbo”, i.e. nothing happens.

This affects crafting severly:
Shift-clicking a stack placed into a container, you have always been able to “fan out” stacks of items in containers for crafting processes that would individually change quality (thereby averaging the random factor of the process).
This is no longer possible.

Ah, yes. This is surely a way to fix the items dropping through the window bug, but it will be an issue for crafters. They really do need a fairly easy way to flood fill a window. I use it myself to stock containers of food for events. Filling 12-16 containers with 64 items each manually is a bit frustrating.

Items still drop through windows, and even if it was fixed, I'd vote to stick with the drop through window bug instead of this. Was already harder as it was to train many skills than CS.

@Uadjet It hasn't fixed it.
@Stalfos: Agreed, absolutely.

yea my +1 for this bug report. Please see wheather this bug can be fixed as soon as possible. Its very annoying trying to do mass crafting, which i normally do.

Not a completely equivalent work-around: Shift-clicking to take a single item and dropping it onto the (occupied) neighbouring slot will show the old, desired behaviour of placing the item into the first available free slot of the container. A bit better than to actually be placing the item manually into a free slot.

To Uadjet, this is not related to the go through window bug.
I cannot reproduce this bug. Please list the steps. I tried with containers in my inventory and a chest of the ground. If I move an item from my inventory to the container, on an occupied slot, the item goes to the next available slot. if the container is full, I get a “item cannot be added to the container” which is correct.

Stalfos commented on 07.12.2023 09:17

The problem is Shift clicking from a stack onto the same stack, that used to put it in the next available container slot.

Now you have to move into the nearest slot (occupied or not) to fill the container with single units.
