Dryken plane IMHO is too difficult for new players. I managed to get through it but on my first attempt at doing so (without having ever completed Dryken plane before) it took me almost two hours.

It at times was quite frustrating, cause the time out for barriers to re-appear is to low. I managed to get through in the end only by running at an accelerated pace (with basically holding the shift key all the time).

Now I imagine a new player having completed creating a char. What I would like to do then is: Play already.

And then this. Running the same way several times cause you did not manage to reach the second or third energy barrier in time. Especially annoying it is in case you do not reach the third energy barrier in time. Cause then you have to redo the second one as well.

And if you missed to obtain the first shard… you have to do all of the energy barriers again. There are a lot of ways to get Dryken plane wrong, which can cause frustration for new players.

Granted, now that I know the solution I can do this quicker. However… consider a new player. Not yet familiar with keyboard shortcuts. Not having seen any tutorial yet. Not knowing how to navigate the char and run faster by holding shift key while running.

I can imagine quite a few new players giving up straight away. When playing a new game, it is natural to evaluate it. And while PlaneShift really deserves giving it some time, especially younger players may not have the patience to do that.

At the very least I’d raise the time limits so that even without holding shift key while running you can reach the barrier even in case you do not find the shortest path to it from the beginning. Or I’d include some kind of mini tutorial at least telling the player about shift key to run faster.

I’d also consider letting an energy barrier disappear once and for all. Consider do to away with re-appearing energy barriers.

I think its important to improve Dryken plane really taking new players into account. It at time was frustrating for me even as a long time player. I think it would put off many new players. Dryken plane seems like a nice idea to test a new player – a little bit! – whether they are serious about playing PlaneShift. However, I think it is important not to overdo this. It may also be a good addition to the lore, sure. But also for that I would not make it too difficult for new players.

Happens in The Family guild house. In the main hall.

It is a torch.

I tried it three times. Both times it did not pick up the item and then it was not possible to open the item menu with right click again till the client showed the error “connection timed out”. The client then shows that there is no connection to the server for a while with the large filled red circle after server name. And then I can log in again as it shows the green circle again.

I marked the torch by moving three purple pillows from the two central tables in the main hall in a kind of a path way towards the torch. Yes, I have been able to pick up those purple pillows. The marking should stay as is until a database reset, but I can mark the torch again after that as well. Just let me know.

I was able to pick up a purple pillow even after moving and rotating it around. I have no idea what makes this torch so special.

There is a scroll bar, in case I make the window really wide. Then I can scroll down to other skills.

I find this not very intuitive to use.

Expected result

Does the window need to be that wide that horizontally scrolling is needed? If not, then I’d just make it more narrow and use mouse wheel for vertical scrolling. But even in case it is needed… I’d add a horizontal scrollbar as well and use mouse wheel for vertical scrolling just like in other windows.

Also I’d make sure the vertical scroll bar is always visible when there is something to scroll vertically, as in most categories in there. Not only when I make the window that wide that no horizontal scrolling is needed anymore.

When I click on a faction in “Factions” category inside skills window, it gets displayed as expected.

At the same time however it seems that the displayed faction is temporarily removed from the faction lists. This leads to a changed list.

How to reproduce:

- For example click on the first item “Cabal of Whispers”.
- It gets displayed.
- In list it is removed.
- Now the first item is “Iron Hand”.
- Click on “Iron Hand”.
- Now the first item is “Cabal of Whispers” again.

I find this irritating. It makes it difficult to click through all factions one after another cause of the changing list.

Expected results:

Keep all the factions in the list in the same order while clicking through them.

I’d recommend an alphabetically order by default.

In Crystal Space PS when casting Magic Light I get a bright glowing light that really does something to lighten up the surrounding area.

In PSUnreal I get a quite dim light globe that does not really seem to affect much around it. It does not really lighten up the surrounding area. Even with Crystal Way above 160.

Expected result

Make it brighter, make it glowing, make it affect its surrounding area.

I.e. make it like it is in Crystal Space PS.

An interesting feat would be to start with lower brightness and size of affected surrounding area and increase it with increased Crystal Way skill. So someone with Crystal Way 10 can cast it, but it does not shine as bright and affect as large an area than for someone with Crystal Way 100.

Collision detected is disabled. Like for chairs and other items placed outside of the guild house.

Expected result

In guild house collisions are detected for items like beds, shelves, chairs and so on is enabled like in Crystal Space PS. So that these items are really solid for the char.

Ideally there would also be collision detection outside of guild house, together with a physics simulations, so that you cannot place 10 shelves onto one another easily, cause they would crumble down again. We did not have this in Crystal Space PS however, so for feature parity with CS PS collision detection inside guild houses is enough.

Actually I would even prefer not to have a specific fight mode and have it more in the way it is done in Crystal Space PlaneShift in case that would be possible with Unreal engine. I’d love PSUnreal to never ever capture the mouse pointer. I find this behavior intrusive.

I have a container (a sack) with tools. In there, I have a rock pick. Its capacity is 18.85/20. I can move the rock pick from container to inventory and back nicely.

However when I move the rock pick to a different slot in the container, I get:

“Item cannot be added to that container because item is too large to fit.”

I bet what happens is that PSUnreal first tries to add the rock pick to the new slot in the container and only then removes it from the old slot. This is of cause the safe way to do it, however it does lead to above error, as the rock pick has a size of 1.5 and that does not fit in 20-18.85 anymore.

That seems to be the case, cause moving a potion around in a container with capacity 7.90/20 works nicely.

I believe Crystal Space PS had the same “bug”.

Just tested whether character dies when reaching 0 HP during combat.

After leaving Death Realm I found no loss in Health, Mana or other stats being applied. Also Active Magic does not show Dakkru’s Curse being in effect.

I did not check for that immediately but only after a few minutes. So in case the duration of the curse has been lowered, I might have missed it. But if its still last as long in as in Crystal Space PS, then it has not been applied.

So or so there is something off with the sitting position of the char on a mount after the first unmount and mount again cycle.

Light can still be an issue. As Damola left Amdeneir a rainy weather suddenly came and it went from light to very dark within seconds. Accidentally I had Damola run into the Amdeneir mine and in there, I was barely able to let hear get out of it again, even with ability night vision.

Position after almost getting out was -282915.19 -593676.38 23793.09 in instance 0.

Also with night vision there had been larger areas of the screen just completely black. I’d expect Damola to see a bit more than that, especially with Night Vision.

Another approach here could of course also be to have some light sources at the mine.

Got to remember to put some torches in her inventory in Crystal Space PS so she has them after a database reset in PSUnreal. Magic Light does not help in such a situation (reported a bug about it doing not much to lighten up anything as a different bug already some time ago).

I accidentally picked up a green carpet from the floor of the guild house of The Family.

I placed it back but it was rotated in the wrong way, thus I tried to enter the menu where I can move and rotate the carpet.

However the carpets is only visible partly and what part I see depends on Damola’s position as well as it also flickers around like crazy.

Eventually I was able to enter the move/rotation mode again, however I left the carpet as is.

Maybe good to look at this bug and bug #7519 “crashes on trying to remove a torch previously placed in guild house again” together.

Talad, you closed #7520 cause the effect of the green carpet placed on the ground.

However… this is what happens to a new player when just dropping a carpet. And they then need to figure out to move it around in order to place it optimally.

While it may be difficult to find the optimal place for an item that is dropped onto the ground, it may be possible to place it just a tiny bit above the ground by default?

This is an enhancement request which in my point of view does not block switching to PSUnreal. It could be considered after the switch.

However in the top right slots of the inventory the popup window overlaps the slot the mouse pointer is over and slots in the neighborhood of it. It thus covers part of the inventory content which makes it more difficult to navigate to the right items.

- Move inventory window to the lower right corner of the PlaneShift Unreal window or screen.
- Put some items or containers in the top right inventory slots
- Hover with the mouse pointer over them.

I would not consider this a bug without night vision, but with night vision I would expect Damola to at least see something. Otherwise I’d wonder what Night Vision can actually be used for.

Without Night Vision during the night I would expect it to be pitch black unless there would be some kind of light source. And I think it would be nice to have an area here and there were you either need a torch or the Magic Light spell. The Magic Light spell does nothing here. see bug #7415 - Magic Light spell does not create enough light in PSUnreal which is not yet fixed in PSUnreal 0.7.27.

A torch works well.

There is no gossip or other channels in chat anymore with PSUnreal. I bet that may be intentional, but now there seems to be no OOC way for players to talk to all other players which are online… in order to hint at some event somewhere or so.
