The random weapons naming system is one of the excellent features of PlaneShift, and crystals have always been iconic to PlaneShift. Different varieties of mineral crystals produced at the mine sites. Some descriptors that would indicate quality on the crystals, like: Smoky, cloudy, occulted, clear, milky, flecked, fractured, et cetera. Smoky sapphire, occulted Ruby, et cetera. These could indicate grades of quality. Perhaps there should be a chance to pull extremely unique crystals of magical quality with two or more modifiers. I would not be surprised if this was already thought of, but I wanted to put it up here while it was in my mind.

But he said he filed a petition and GM responded. I am confirming that I also cannot see this at its location in game. My updater appears to be functioning as expected, everything is up to date. Instead of directly opening the book copy text, it would be nice if a book showed a regular info window first. Title, the authors name, and generic book description. If a Read button were provided, that then opened the window with the book copy text, perhaps an event could be generated so there could be read and unread books in ones inventory. Being able to carry and inspect an unread book perhaps gives some interesting quest possibilities.

I had to finish the update manually as old pslaunch did not take care of new pslaunchmacosx.zip download. No problem for me, but It appears that it was supposed to unzip and finish the process, based on the errors in the system logfile.

OS X 10.5.8 - About 7/10 times that I quit the client on the Macintosh, the client hangs and never actually closes. The client must be force-quit to close it. It *seems* to happen less if there is a low number of players online. I am not really sure how to give you any more information regarding this condition. I do have the Macintosh developer applications installed, if Shark or one of those programs might provide more information?

I observed a player on a mount running around and around in the arena killing NPCs. They appeared to pause after each kill as though they were looting. So I am basically just asking if looting is allowed while mounted? As I cannot check it myself at this time. If looting is allowed while mounted, it seems like an exploit due to the speed involved. You definitely wouldn’t be able to bend over on a horse and loot a fallen opponent. You would have to get down.

To see what I saw, you would need to have a character that has the Polyuntri Serves Laanx and Seirann is Waiting quests, and take them to visit Gregori Stevald and Aldaaren Phostle.

I visited Gregori first, used the quest menu to initiate the Weapon Identification quest. Gregori went through all the lines of the dialogue up to the point that I got to choose to accept it. Once I accepted it, he did not acknowledge, and started in with Polyuntri Serves Laanx. I continued and finished that stage of that quest. At that point I could choose Weapon Identification again, and then I was able to successfully accept it.

I then visited Aldaaren. This time I chose Derghir Menace. Aldaaren went through all the lines of the dialogue up to the point that I got to choose to accept it. Once I accepted it, he did not acknowledge, and started in with Sierann is Waiting. I continued with that, and finished that stage of that quest with him. At that point Derghir Menace was still available as a choice, and I was able to successfully accept it.

Exactly the same thing – apparently – in both cases. It probably happens elsewhere with successive quests on NPCs. My gut says this will be easily replicated in testing, its probably some basic error.

An End User License Agreement needs to be presented to the user the first time an account is logged on. It should present an Agree and Disagree button to the user.

The Agree and Disagree buttons should be deactivated until the window containing the terms of the EULA has been scrolled to the bottom of the presented text.

Clicking Agree then continues to, or displays the list of active characters on the account. Clicking Disagree quits the client software.

The EULA should contain statements concerning the use of the client software, as per a standard license agreement on commercial software. There should be sections detailing prohibited behavior, such as attempting to use the client software in an unauthorized fashion when connecting to a PlaneShift server. And a clearly stated policy on resets on database information. Et cetera.

There is a reason that these are always presented on commercial software. Whether the user reads it or not, it is the user’s responsibility to understand the terms of the license agreement. Violations of the license agreement result in banning the account, or other moderated actions.

The ability to migrate characters automatically between different servers would be a useful GM function. Specifically for instances where behavior not appropriate for one server, so the character could be transferred to the other server. People will not do it on their own.

(I know its serious developmental work involving lots of SQL at least one interface that does not exist yet, and a huge possibility of serious bugs during implementation, but I think it would be worthwhile in the long run for all players.)

Using a random function is like rolling a single die. The results tend to be hard and don’t necessarily follow a natural progression.

Rolling a set of die and subtracting the lowest numbers gives softer results with a bell distribtion to the numbers.

Lets say two players roll two d100. Highest number wins. Instead of rolling one d100 for each player, 6 d10 die are rolled and the lowest number is tossed. Then the five remain values are added togther for the score.

What I suggest is a function that automatically does this. I am suggesting this as a client function to be used with any roleplay commands that might be implemented, I doubt if you want to add it to the server, but it would change the results of things like mining for gold as well.

Variations on this are almost endless and could apply to any stat or skill. Saving throw commands are designed to be used by a single player, with the results shown in the channel originating the command.

You respond to the question, and get a general I-don’t-understand type of response.

Then the quest conversation continues.

While I can appreciate the character nuance provided…

Questions should always be followed by a wait for user response.

Especially in the tutorial, as this could be highly confusing to a newcomer.

It does not affect any other controls, which seems confusing IMHO.

Open Quests, Inventory, et cetera, any secondary window in the interface.

Hit ESC. The control bar collapses. Secondary window stays open.

Recommending that ESC key should close secondary interface palettes/windows, never primary controls.

It should also cancel trades, close loot window, cancel confirmations.

I think this would make the interface friendlier. Just my two cents.

Toggle-chat key become unresponsive. This is a very old, frustrating and sometimes dangerous bug.
1. Use toggle-chat a couple of times, theen trade with the NPC. Toggle-chat is unresponsive after completing trade.
2. Use toggle-chat a couple of times, attack and kill a mob. Loot the mob. Toggle-chat is unresponsive after closing loot window.
I can duplicate these every time. It seems to happen when I click the buttons that close those windows.
Other key shortcuts still work as expected. It seems to just affect the toggle-chat. Fixing this one would make the interface friendlier.

I cannot change the color for the object labels in the client options. The default red is alarming. If it was an issue of visibility in the past, then I would recommend yellow. If it was my personal choice, I would use grey to denote any inanimate dead object. Red should be used sparingly in a user-interface situation, IMHO, save it for GM and server messages and such.

Using the next/prev commands, entities in the world are targeted almost randomly. It would make sense to restrict the targeting commands only to entities that are in the field of view of the character. This would seem to be implied by the attack command only working when one is facing an opponent.
