Bug Report | 6340 | No | Game Balance | High | New | nobody special | Davide Vescovini | Commanding pets gives no experience and little practice | 24.03.2014
Task Description
Commanding pets is similar to combat skills in that you get no experience for using them but in the case of of combat you get the experience for the kill. I could not get my pet to attack with my 30 empathy, I was able to get a message that my pet targeted successfully as well as a message that my pet needed a target to attack.
Practice seems to have a cool-down period where subsequent commands give no practice. I would think that the cool down period should just be for identical commands, when you need to target something before attacking both actions should give practice.
It would be good to have some information on the state of pet activities.

Task Description
If you have a shortcut to equip an item stored in a container in inventory – for example a book in a bag – the container window is opened up in the process. This is unexpected because you can store or sell such items without said container windows being displayed.
I keep my crafting books in a sack in inventory, my shortcut is: -<shortcut76 name=”Dishes with Fishes” buttonimage=”/planeshift/materials/book_cookingfishes.dds”>
<![CDATA[/dequip mind /use Dishes with Fishes]]>
The same happens with my tool sack - sample shortcut: -<shortcut78 name=”Masher” buttonimage=”/planeshift/materials/masher01a_icon.dds”>
<![CDATA[/dequip righthand /use Masher]]>
If I need to change tools or books in mid craft I do not want to have to reshow whichever crafting container I am using.
low priority, perhaps.

Bug Report | 6365 | No | Engine | Medium | New | Venalan | Joe Lyon | Optimisiations for shortcut window options. | 22.03.2014
Task Description
When you change button height font does not scale so you can end up with buttons with font cut in half.
Button width can be changed if it is set to manual or auto, you should only be able to change it when on manual.
Font - display for the current font should be taller and wider to show the whole font name. The position of the drop down menu could be moved up and menu size increased to avoid the need to scroll. Ideally the font choices should also use the font they are named after to make it easier to chose.
Health and mana - when you hide the bars you end up with a big block of empty space. It should be set such that this ‘dead space’ is removed as you find when you play wanting to click on something behind the space and finding you cant.
Text size - when altering size and font it does not change in real time. The minimum size is stupidly small, and having to relog each time to find a size that works is very hard. The minimum size should be 6 or 8 point.
I found that when adjusting button height, the width did not auto scale until I click on the ‘auto scale’ button AFTER adjusting the height.
I also set ‘text spacing’ to its lowest value and found the gap between the text and button edge to vary in certain buttons. In some it seemed to be 0 but others much larger. But they all increased when I increased the spacing size.
At certain button heights the ‘auto button width’ does not work as the text is cut off at the left and right edges. ‘one click’ taller or smaller and the problem can stay or go. This is with text spacing to its lowest value, which I expect many will use to keep ‘dead space’ to a minimum.

The additional vague hints which are being added to the end of quests are not sufficient because on one hand they may fail, and on the other hand they help better when I just started a new character, not when my experienced character is already in the middle of many quest chains.
I don’t expect a big fat rotating question mark above an NPC’s head; it can well be a less remarkable change – like a different color, outline, or font style for the label, or a slight translucent highlight effect.

Task Description
I've just tested some Pet commands (by using a summoned familiar) and the following commands don't seem to reach the familiar NPC: /pet [name,] assist /pet [name,] guard /pet [name,] run /pet [name,] walk
Please note the Minion behaviour used for pets is using almost the same data in SVN. The steps I used to replicate the bug: 1. summoned a familiar 2. issue a command /pet [name,] follow/stopattack/stay/run/walk 3. use the /info command to know the last perceived command.
When reaching step 3 the info command should show something like that: (12:08:36) [System] >Last perception: ownercmd:stopattack instead for the above commands an error message is outputted (just like the command was wrongly typed or isn't recognized).
By using the percept command on the NPC like /percept ownercmd:run the behaviour is correctly run and works as expected.
Also please note that assist/guard commands appear in the help.xml file while the new run/walk don't.

Task Description
On Skill window, add a button to drop the selected skill, with a Yes / No confirmation.
This would execute the equivalent of “/setskill me <skill name> 0” (or something close to that) removing all training, practice, rank, etc.
Would do nothing on stats / factions tabs.
This would allow players to remove skills they’re no longer interested in, don’t fit the character they’re developing, deprecated skills, not-yet-implemented skills, or skills acquired from the character generator that the player considers extraneous or unnecessary.
No compensation should be given for the lost ranks, practice, etc. and that should be stated in the confirmation dialog, along with a clear advisory that the action is permanent and irreversible.
Unless we’ve sweet talked a GM into doing it for us, we often have extra skills with a rank of 1 or 2 that we may have inadvertently trained or practiced and they clutter up the list view of skills, as they’re not suppressed by the Filter feature.

A UI improvement: This would make things much more convenient for spells like Dweomer Detection, but generally in cases where an action is performed on an object such as repairing weapons and armor. It would be great if the object of the action was (first choice) an external object that you have in focus. If there is no such object, use the one in the sword hand.
Right now, there is a mix of both of these things implemented. This would make it consistent and convenient. Right now it's quite awkward to have to drop an item, and then focus on it before casting a spell on it.

I’m filing this as a bug report, because either this should be “fixed” so we can map shortcuts to such keys so they will still work while chatting, or the team can decide this is “not a bug” and close it.
The “fix” therefore, is to trap only those keys that chatbox can deal with, and forward anything else to the shortcut processor, so while typing in chat W A S D would be trapped in chat, and F3 would fire the shortcut it’s mapped to.

Task Description
For crafting book /use command equips book in mind slot - and it’s OK, I think. But how to open crafting book for reading, as of RMB click in inventory?
Then dragging a book from inventory to shortcut window, /use command is created. But /use command for common book just results in a book, equiped in righthand slot (in case it’s empty). Book isn’t opened for reading nor writing, so where is no result of using it. So no /use…
After equipping a common book in a hand slot, /use [slot-name] command just kills the psclient… This one really unexpected :(
/write [item-name] command syntax not working on a writable book, resulting message is: “You cannot write on this item” - but this syntax described in a Help window! And /write [slot-name] syntax works as expected.
I think it’s clear that /read command for a books must exist to make complete set. Some use cases:
* want to read any book - use /read [item-name] or /read [slot-name] * want to write to a writable book - use /write [item-name] or /write [slot-name] * want to equip / dequip any book - use /equip and /dequip commands
Sane default results for /use command:
* Crafting book - equip in a mind slot.
It's a reference book, to take a look from time to time in a crafting process, after all.
* Common book and writable book - open book reading window. Using a book in a real world means “read it”.
Other "uses" (as a blunt weapon, fuel, press-papier, etc.) are less common.

Feature Request | 6221 | No | Magic System | Medium | Unconfirmed | Erodare Lenizus | | Over-charged Mana Cost | 18.11.2013
Task Description
1) For damage capped spells, sliding the power bar above the point where max damage is produced, mana cost is over-charged against the character, in addition to lowering success chance and increasing casting time more than appropriate.
2) If the kill shot (magic) produces more damage than needed to finish off the target, full mana cost is charged even if not needed.
I think it would be more appropriate if the mana cost was down-scaled to the net effect: - if target only has 30 hit points left, a 60-point damage spell should only charge half the mana - if target only needs 5 hit points to be fully healed, a 60-point healing spell should only charge 1/12th of the mana cost - for area spells, calculate against sum effect on all impacted targets. - if you’re going to cap damage, should also cap mana cost and not over-penalize in success chance and cast time when the slider is set too high
Where I’ve referenced the magic power slider above, same should be true for spell commands that explicitly have a power value - i.e. “/cast 90 Taste of Death”
Justification: The mage should be able to determine if a “light touch” will suffice, but players have no way to turn down magic power to improve success chance and/or reduce mana cost and casting time.
Taking this a step further, practice and experience perhaps should be similarly down-scaled, with the possibility of giving none if no actual effect is the result (this would impact spam casting for power-leveling).

The /cast command should accept power values from -99 to +99

Perhaps -50 to +50 would work better?
Perhaps practice and experience should be dialed down accordingly as well?

I also tried various versions of this… /pet name {name} /pet 1, name [name] /pet 1, name {name} along with many, many different names. They all come back invalid.
Then, after several days of trying, I received the message, “You have no familiar to command.” So, I tried to dismiss my familiar and received the message, “Your pet has already returned to the netherworld.” I was standing there, in game, looking at the glider when I received all these messages. So I tried to summon the pet and another one popped up, so I had two in game at the same time, both named, Aszrai’s Familiar.
If nothing else, please remove the second (or both) familiar from the game. But it would be nice to find a way to name my familiar, but not a priority.
I have an image, which shows them both near the smithy in Hydlaa, but I was unable to figure out how to attach it here. I’m sure one drifter will stick around at the smithy for quite some time.
Thanks for your time and help!

Task Description
I think melee skill has too low damage compared to weapon skills. It takes to level up the same efforts, costs and time as any other combat skill, and for that you get very low damage.
I measured MELEE on the Training Dummies, got the following:
Normal stance: min: 46 max: 77 avr: 62.7
Bloody stance: min: 53 max: 91 avr: 74.8
I used a Q50 ShortSWORD and got these results (and who does use a Q50 weapon nowadays at all?)
Normal stance: min: 91 max: 153 avr: 126.4
Bloody stance: min: 107 max: 180 avr: 145.3
And a Q50 Normal BOW:
Normal stance: min: 99 max: 167 avr: 137.6
Bloody stance: min: 116 max: 199 avr: 164.8
If I was using a Q300 Shortsword or Bow, these results would be higher by times 1.7x. If I was using a Platinum Steel Longswords, the sword results would be higher by times 2.1x.
Conclusion: Melee skill makes about only 50% damage compared to Q50 Sword and 45% damage to Q50 bow. And please notice, that I compared the skill to Q50 items only. In case of melee you have no chance to craft a better weapon, you have no chance to loot weapon with good modifier.
Suggestion: I suggest to raise the damage of melee skill by at least 260%, because it takes to level melee up the same efforts, costs and time as any other combat skills. Otherwise melee is just a good RP skill :) (Raising the damage by times 2.6x would be similar as you would use your hands as a Q300 Shortsword, taking the delay into account too (equalized damage per second values). Melee has 1.5 delay, Shortsword has 2.0 delay.)
Raising the damage by times 2.6x would cause:
Normal stance: min: 119 max: 200 avr: 163.1
Bloody stance: min: 137 max: 236 avr: 195.5

Task Description
With a plenty of crafted and looted weapons and armor around, there is a need for some basic identification service running by NPC (e.g. Levrus).
To make a ground for an business and relations between real players, NPC identification service should be:
1) expensive 2) less than 100% successful (how about 75%?) 3) limited by item quality / price

I Was going to make some apple jam biscuits recently as requested by Harnquist but I could not for the life of me find them in any of my cookbooks (I have all four!). Since Harnquist asked for it, I was pretty sure I could make it and took a guess that it should be in the Pastry Chef book that has the jam recipe and open biscuits. With that book in Mind, I was able to make the Apple Jam Biscuits, but I never did actually FIND the recipe. I checked with another cook just to make sure, and she couldn’t find it either. She also pointed out that the Bread with Apple Jam is also missing (the other Bread with Duppong/Teveran/Macca/Joopiner Jam and Duppong/Teveran/Macca/Joopiner Jam Biscuits, as well as the Bread with Butter and Buttered Biscuits are also missing.)
In the Making Enchanted Armor book I discovered that the skills you cannot do are not grayed out (AFTER I tried something, was told I didn’t have the skill, and looked more closely at my book! It does say the usual “WIth higher skill you could blah, blah, blah” but it’s the same color as the rest of the text).
