Task Description
The nightvision effect (cool stuff BTW) does not actually improve sight when inside a very dark buildinig, e.g. the Amdeneir tavern.
(One can of course argue in terms of realism, that nightvision needs residual light to work, but I counter that with the fact that any publicly accessible building should have more than enough residual light. – It should have enough light not to require that ability in the first place!)

Task Description
I think it would be nice if mages would be able to make magic scrolls, on the same patterns as you can enchant gems, you could enchant a paper by spells.
Then anyone could use that scroll to cast magic without magical knowledge, so a crafter or fighter character could use identifing, healing or other type of spells. The power of the spell and the duration would depend on the quality of the scroll, and that on the way level of the mage who created it.
Scroll would be crafted from papers on the same way as you make enchanted crystals from gems. It could use an ‘intermediate object’ or multiple glyph enchanting on a single paper would do it too. For example, if a spell is a 3 glyph combination then the crafter would need to use those 3 glyphs (in the right order?) to apply the spell on the scroll.
Using the scrolls would work through the /use command. /use Scroll of Healing Flash /use Scroll of Analyze Dweomer /use Scroll of Fist of the Volcano
The script should consider what is targeted, if an item is targeted, you could use identifing, if a mob or player has been targeted you could use the spell on the target too for attacking or buffing. You also would be able to cast spells on other players that are only allowed now to cast on yourself like Dome of Perfection.
I already discussed it with weltall, who doesn’t see technical limitations in implementation yet.

A book is saved on the local disk with the custom title entered while writing its content. This is very inconvenient if the book has a quite verbose title, then the filename is just as verbose, and if you want to load this text into a copy of this book, you need to type exactly the same book title into the loading filename dialog. Or you need to know where books are located outside the game and rename the saved file there.
I'd like to be able to specify a brief filename to save a book to. The filename dialog may be pre-filled with the suggested filename based on the book title, but I'd like to change it before saving, if desired.

Since you can set the sharps and flats for the overall piece of music, you should be able to insert naturals. Otherwise, if you need to cancel one of the sharps/flats for the key you are using anywhere in the music, your only alternative is to write in all the sharps and flats throughout by hand.

Task Description
The random weapons naming system is one of the excellent features of PlaneShift, and crystals have always been iconic to PlaneShift. Different varieties of mineral crystals produced at the mine sites. Some descriptors that would indicate quality on the crystals, like: Smoky, cloudy, occulted, clear, milky, flecked, fractured, et cetera. Smoky sapphire, occulted Ruby, et cetera. These could indicate grades of quality. Perhaps there should be a chance to pull extremely unique crystals of magical quality with two or more modifiers. I would not be surprised if this was already thought of, but I wanted to put it up here while it was in my mind.

When trying to use the RING Of SUMMON FAMILIAR again, it says it's depleted and can't be used.

Task Description
I write this to ask about more variety of animal parts in order to craft this essence, since it can be obtained in low production from aragnas and in high production from trepor queen. Trepor queen is just one mob in place and not always give to you the eggs sack. Is a essence really hard to obtain, and is very helpful for newcomers and also for experienced player, when crafted into healing potions. Increasing the ratio egg sack / essences will also help. Task Description
As a heavy role-player, one of the most common annoyances encountered is that there is often no appropriate way to communicate to various groups of people.
Example one:
A group of five sitting around a table for an important meeting, talking in hushed voices. Currently the only option is to create a group for this, which is unrealistic, as people very close by should be able to listen in.
Example two:
Someone is standing in front of a crowd of people in the street, announcing something to them. Currently, the distance of /say is so tiny, that the only way to communicate to this group and have the people at the back hear you is to use /shout and have half the countryside hearing you.
Example three:
Sitting in the Tavern talking over a drink, not worried about your voice carrying. Currently, the distance of /say is so minimal, that half the Tavern will not end up hearing you. Using /shout would be considered very rude. No way to deal with this.
Solution:
/quiet - Speaking in a hushed voice to those nearby. Range limited to about 8 to 10 feet.
/say - Speaking in a clear, loud voice. Limited to a range of around 50 feet, which is quite a bit further than it carries to now.
/shout - Long range yelling. The current range of shouting would be fine.

I really like the sewers in Hydlaa, and I think it’d be cool if the other cities (Ojaveda and Amdeneir, mainly) had something like that. I also think it’d be cool if the Hydlaa sewers had a couple more openings, and maybe some intentional service entrances instead of just cave-ins with ladders… And maybe an entrance/exit in the East? Then my Rogue-like character could travel by sewers more, which would be totally awesome.
Are you guys planning to add some more sewers eventually?

Add a better way to search for icons. clicking through each individual icon in a long list is fairly annoying for some of the larger categories, and there are several icons that are blank so it’s not always clear there are more icons after that. Being able to see more than one icon at a time/being able to filter by name or type (ways for magic, weapon types for weapons, tools, music, decorations etc.) or having more categories with shorter lists would also be helpful.

I think melee skill has too low damage compared to weapon skills. It takes to level up the same efforts, costs and time as any other combat skill, and for that you get very low damage.
I measured MELEE on the Training Dummies, got the following:
Normal stance: min: 46 max: 77 avr: 62.7
Bloody stance: min: 53 max: 91 avr: 74.8
I used a Q50 ShortSWORD and got these results (and who does use a Q50 weapon nowadays at all?)
Normal stance: min: 91 max: 153 avr: 126.4
Bloody stance: min: 107 max: 180 avr: 145.3
And a Q50 Normal BOW:
Normal stance: min: 99 max: 167 avr: 137.6
Bloody stance: min: 116 max: 199 avr: 164.8
If I was using a Q300 Shortsword or Bow, these results would be higher by times 1.7x. If I was using a Platinum Steel Longswords, the sword results would be higher by times 2.1x.
Conclusion: Melee skill makes about only 50% damage compared to Q50 Sword and 45% damage to Q50 bow. And please notice, that I compared the skill to Q50 items only. In case of melee you have no chance to craft a better weapon, you have no chance to loot weapon with good modifier.
Suggestion: I suggest to raise the damage of melee skill by at least 260%, because it takes to level melee up the same efforts, costs and time as any other combat skills. Otherwise melee is just a good RP skill :) (Raising the damage by times 2.6x would be similar as you would use your hands as a Q300 Shortsword, taking the delay into account too (equalized damage per second values). Melee has 1.5 delay, Shortsword has 2.0 delay.)
Raising the damage by times 2.6x would cause:
Normal stance: min: 119 max: 200 avr: 163.1
Bloody stance: min: 137 max: 236 avr: 195.5

Hello, I would like to propose providing a full map and compass at the start of the game instead of making it something you need to build or quest for. The map should show the current location of the player when opened and the direction they are facing. The map will only have major locations such as cities, towns, and camps but will also include unlockable locations such as caves. I feel some kind of map/mini-map is a common feature in most games and it will help retain new players since they will have basic directions at the start of the game. Once you’ve maxed your stats, currently there’s no more use for progression points/XP. It’s just an endless counter going up and up and up.
How about:
adding PP prices to the money you have to pay in special attack quests? (”Sorry, but you don’t have enough experience to learn this, come back later and I’ll show you how it’s done.”)
having to pay in PP more than in Tria for the temporary knowledge bonuses?
consuming progression points if you craft something with a special modifier (and in turn only allowing you to do so if you have some to spare)?
add more temporary buffs (for example for stats or more directly as bonus HP/MP, increased HP/MP regeneration) that are paid for only in PP or with much lower tria costs.
I am aware that it probably requires quite some additions to the quest scripting and other places and is by no means a trivial change, but I thought it may add to the medium- to long-term development deliberations. To me progression points feel like a loose end, now that they lost their purpose in skill training.

I would like to see npc’s function as locators for quest characters so that players can “ask around town” if they cannot locate the desired npc.
until now due to the gm’s policy about spoilers and the fact that most NPC’s are pretty much brain dead except for a few very basic responses it is sometimes next to impossible to locate a specific NPC without relying on another player or a wiki website as the information is not available ingame.
essentially I want NPC’s to respond to commands such as “do you know where I can find ‘name’” they should be able to check a database of nearby NPS’s and if they are in range they can point you in the direction or if not in range point you towards an NPC that does.
sample response. “yes i have heard of this ‘name’ you can find him over by “description of location pulled from database”.
sample responce out of range.
“I have not heard that name before perhaps you should try asking ‘NPC near desired character’ in ‘city near desired NPC’
but essentially make NPC’s able to give directions or information about other NPC’s or directions to nearby areas
right now it is nearly impossible to get any information about quests without relying on other players. Npc’s should respond to questions of this nature.

I would like it very much if crafting were to be redesigned more like combat. Instead of one action that takes many seconds to complete and generates only one practice or experience reward make it so that each hammer blow is considered and eligible for a reward. For example at level 10 it takes me about two minutes to turn 12 heated ore into 4 shield handles and I get one practice point and some experience at the end of that time. Under my proposed change it might take just as long but each hammer blow on the ingots would receive a success chance roll that would increment the percentage done. A series of low rolls would result in a failure, either junk metal or very low quality handles and a series of high rolls would result in faster time and/or higher quality handles. This would be analogous to hitting a mob until one of you is dead.
I believe this would be more fair in the long run and if it would seem to make great quality items too available the chance to succeed could be reduced.

it would be nice for bards if they had hats where passers-by could throw some tria in. The hat item would serve as a money container as well as a piece of clothing. The advantages to just throwing tria on the ground are that people can’t just steal the money and it would look nicer.

I would like to have a specific means of muting certain people’s “music”. It’s a shame if you have to turn off all musical instruments to be rid of the “Listen to me practise my same song for any amount of hours if you want to craft here” people.
So it would be very nice if /ignore commands would also affect audio output triggered by the ignored person. Not sure how feasible that is technically, though.

The way it works now:
I mine ore or get weapons drops from killing monsters and sell them to a NPC. These items then simply disappear into the ether.
The way it should work:
The items purchased by a NPC should be available for players to purchase, at a mark-up to what the NPC bought the item for.
Example, If I sell 20 Iron Ore to Trasok, then he should have 20 Iron Ore for sale.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Acquire an item that a NPC will purchase. 2. Open the buy/sell dialog with this merchant. 3. Notice that when in “buy” view there are no items in the appropriate category. 4. Sell the item in question. 5. Go back to the “buy” view and observe that there is still no itme for sale in that category.
Justifications:
1. The players/devs have expressed a desire in the forums to have a stable economy. This will help. 2. For RP, the prices should fluctuate depending on a very simplified supply/demand algorithm. 3. For RP, how can a merchant justify shelling out mountains of trias for items that never seem to get used.
a. Trasok shouldn't fit in his house with all the silver/gold ingots he has bought over the years.
4. This will help crafters be able to get raw materials at reasonable IC-justifiable prices and hopefully get prices for crafted items to be reasonable and IC-justifiable as well.

Since players rely heavily on log files, and since some files like saved books and screenshots are created by the client in various folders, could the installation package please create shortcuts to these folders in the start menu on windows, and whatever the equivelant is on other platforms? Would certainly make it easier for players to find them when they need them.
Also either set the psupdater shortcut to include the CheckIntegrity flag as default or create a second one with that flag.

I would like the limit of stacks per category being increased. As Alchemist (one of my occupations ) I need to store from a lot of essences with different quality for the best quality products. While this limit was set after my category was already over the 200 i have a double problem as I cannot work. whatever I take out I cannot put back. So I am looking for the old style mules to help me out? I guess it is better to increase the limit a bit more. 300?

After showing a newbie how to mine and harvest, they approached me the other day saying that they tried to harvest apples around the smithy but failed to apply what I taught them the day before.
It's probably for the fact that apples and their location are far older than the harvesting system s a whole, that I never thought about that before. And that apparently no one else has thought of including apples when setting up the harvesting areas?
I think one should be able to harvest apples just as all the other plants and fruits. If only for matters of consistency.

It would be better to handle the data this way: compressed server side stored compressed sent compressed client recieves compressed client decompresses uses and stores on disk.

Task Description
Since there is bronze (and more and more people work with it), and there is also zinc besides the tin to possibly combine with the copper - make brass available. What other use was there for zinc anyway? The actual mix should be similar to bronze, with zinc in place of tin to go along the copper.
Would also be great if there were finally possibilities to craft something out of those alloys…
