Bug Report5813NoModels and MapsMediumNewRoman YagodinAbacus icon in "Kilas wants his Abacus Back"09.02.201321 Task Description

1) Abacus quest item in “Kilas wants his Abacus Back” looks like some sort of globus…

2) It is not clear from Crosh’s explanations, that numeric base he uses with 7-th beads abacus. It can be both 7 or 8, so right answer may be 64 (base 8) or 49 (if base 7 is used). If base 7 is used, the whole beads line is moved back (left) in same operation with moving its last 7-th bead to the right. Same alhorithm is used in real Russian abacus, which have 10 beads in a line for 10-th base calculations.

Maybe, 2) is not a bug, but it requires some more “out of game” explorations, than player may expect, or just “brute force” enumeration of possible aanswers. So, Crosh’s explanations about his calculations must be more clear:

Now: “When they’re all to the right, I move them all back and move bead in a second line…“
Must be like: “When they’re all to the right, and I need to count one more day, I move them all back and move bead in a second line…“

Bug Report5989NoModels and MapsMediumUnconfirmedKaerli StronwylleMap leak in bdoorsin leads to "unleak" and subsequent c...03.04.2016 Task Description

/pos: bdoorsin -180.54 19.71 -864.52

How to reproduce: Run into the area between the large boulder and the cliff face there.

What should happen: Your char should, at worst, have to /unstick out of it, or be respawned due to the map leak.

What does happen:

  1. Your char (sometimes) gets ‘leaked’ off the map and starts to fall through it
  2. As your char falls, they get put back in the normal map area because of the concavity of the cliff face below the path there.
  3. Result: a DR trip, because your character goes “splat” at the bottom of the Bronze Doors canyon.

Bug Report7956NoModels and MapsMediumUnconfirmedDaevaornAmdeneir needs scaling up by 20-30%02.12.2023 Task Description

It might make sense that an Ynnwn has to crouch in order to get through a Klyros built door, but when Klyros are struggling to pass many doors in their own city, that doesn’t make any sense.

Many doors are too narrow for my Klyros character to pass through. Same holds for some of the decoration, like the kiosks in the market hall with an awning that is too low to look at the wares on the table.

I think 20-30% larger scale would be sufficient to remedy the major trouble spots.

Feature Request2631NoMovementMediumNewElvors AmenorasRunning up slopes should be more taxing26.03.20091 Task Description

I consider it unrealistic how terrain is (not) interacting with movement.

As far as I know, in real life, every meter up is as taxing as ten meters across. (The factor of 10 is from a schoolbok, it might be a good idea to verify this from a professional source.)
Going downwards requires concentration to avoid slipping and falling, and a surprisingly large amount of strength to absorb the shock from “falling” the height would lose with every step. (Walk down 250 metres of a moderately steep slope with a backpack on your shoulders and you’ll know what I mean.)

In terms of game mechanics, this would mean:
* When running upwards, the speed should decrease and stamina loss should increase, and the cumulative effect of these two changes should be drastic. It’s possible to trade one change for the other: keeping the speed unchanged and massively increasing stamina loss would force players to rest, keeping the stamina loss constant would call for a massive speed reduction. However, I think it should be a little of both since that causes interesting effects (see below under “game experience”).
* When walking downwards, there should be no stamina loss (you can make the physics work for you), and you should be faster, but you lose mental stamina. The less your mental stamina is, the higher the probability of slipping and falling. If you fall on a too-steep slope, you continue skidding. Falling should do damage that’s proportional to the total weight (character + load), blunt damage (not much help from armor); skidding should do damage-over-time, armor protecting fully (essentially this is abrasive damage, which is similar to slash - but don’t give characters armor training from that).

In terms of game experience, this would mean:
* Getting up on a slope is a time-consuming experience, and almost never worth avoiding the walk around the hill. People will stay on the paths in the valleys. This will cause more interaction between normal travellers (and make Cutthroat Lane work better for the Cutthroads, too). It will also make people who leave the road more likely to remain undetected.
* The Settings team can make NPCs less accessible and less likely to be found by placing them on a hilltop, or in a valley behind mountain pass.
* Players with maxed stats have less issues with upward slopes than newbies, but they will still avoid slopes unless they have reason to.
* Hilltops will become a tactical advantage. An attacker will need far more time to reach a defender on the top, and expose himself to ranged combat for a longer time. (Take this into consideration when reducing the effectiveness of long-range combat spells; ideally, a mage would win against a fighter from a hilltop, and lose against a fighter on even ground.)
* Hilltops also become a bit of a trap. Defenders forced to flee from a hilltop risk falling and getting overwhelmed.
* Pursuing down a hilltop is problematic due to risk of falling. Defenders might want to hide a pursuit team in a nearby valley that’s near the height of the route of the attackers, though that would force them to split up forces. Decisions, decisions… which means tactical variation, which is a Good Thing when it comes to making the combat aspects of the game interesting :)
* Reaching the Eagle Bronze Doors takes a lot of time already, making them even less reachable will no doubt make many players very unhappy. An alchemist that sells stamina regeneration potions at the bottom of the path up would help with that.

Just my 5 cents :)
(and no, I don’t expect this to be implemented anytime soon :D )

Bug Report5869NoMovementMediumUnconfirmedskPermanently exhausted when dismounting rivnak14.01.2013 Task Description

First - It seems there is a delay in stamina measurment, so what can happen is that you are moving, getting low on stamina, you stop moving but even after that you can still get sometimes “You are exhausted” message. This is more a feature than bug, but I think it is important in this case. So now what happened:
I was riding a rivnak and got low on stamina. I continued riding and reached my target destination before I had actually run out of stamina, but I was very low at the time. I dismounted the rivnak and around this moment I got “You are exhausted” message. After I dismounted I couldn’t move - the game was saying that I was exhausted. I couldn’t cast spells or do anything that is prevevented when you are exhausted. However, the game was displaying I have full stamina (After dismounting a pet there is a small delay before your health and stamina values are updated to be on par with the current values.) and this did not change even after two minutes I was waiting. So the game still though I am exhausted - mounting again the pet did not help. Client restart helped of course.
I think that the problam may be somewhere between delayed “you are exhusted” message and after dismount stamina and health synchronization. It seems that when you receive in right (or wrong :) ) moment the exhaused message the synchronization after dismount fails in some way resulting in character being viewed as exhausted permanently.

Bug Report7288NoMovementMediumUnconfirmedSunda KastanPlayer movement differs from Legacy/no 'turn' keybindin...13.09.202121 Task Description

In Legacy PlaneShift, the default movements are:
W = Walk forwards
S = Walk backwards
A = Turn to the left until keypress ends
D = Turn to the right until keypress ends

However in PSU, the movement is as follows:

W = Walk forwards
S = Turn 180 degrees and then walk forwards (towards the camera)
A = Turn 90 degrees left and then walk forwards (at 270 degrees from camera)
D = Turn 90 degrees right and then walk forwards (at 90 degrees from camera)

This is incongruent with legacy movements, but also complicated by the requirement to use the mouse for both UI interaction and movement concurrently.

It may be that this is a result of the absence of a ‘third-person follow’ camera, but behaviour should follow that of legacy.

Feature Request4727NoNPCMediumNewRlyDontKnowRentable mounts12.09.20103 Task Description

FR by Vakachehk:

I have an idea for mounts which will need some changes to some maps.
For Rivnaks (maybe Drifters too) having stables in which without a ring you may summon them, and dismiss them, without any skill of any ring needed, maybe a tria fee of like 50trias every summon/dismiss (of course there's the obvious issue you un-mount and leave your Rivnak somewhere, either the game automatically dismisses it or it is able to be stolen via a player, or a mechanical guard comes and takes it back to the stable or whatever). Using your Ring of Summon Familiar you can use the skill Empathy to dismiss/summon/etc, anywhere at any time.
Also I was thinking about the skill 'Riding' maybe this could be trainable and used in combat while on your rivnak?

Feature Request5216NoNPCMediumUnconfirmedmickraVisual indication of available quests20.05.20112 Task Description

When a player character is within the interaction range of an NPC, a mark (label) of some sort should appear above that NPC if they are offering some new or repeatable quests (! not some information for those already running !) for that particular character at that particular moment.

Should be optional as a turn-off or turn-on, depending on the default chosen by designers. In any case, and as with any other label, players should retain the option of not seeing it, if it spoils their fun or ruins their immersion somehow.

The reason for this request: drastically increased amount of questing chains ingame, and the absolutely unhealthy and immersion-breaking amount of mouse-clicking on the same NPCs the game now requires.

Noticing a sign above someone's head is OOC, of course, but clicking a mouse button on someone's model, or getting an aggressive red "…has no quest information for you" line floating in mid-air is equally OOC'ish.
On the other hand, seeing no mark above someone's head would cause neither irritation nor disappointment (while futile mouse-targeting and mouse-clicking, when done repeatedly, invariably produces both of those negative effects).
The marks would also provoke reasonable curiousity about available quests, hopefully enticing new players into doing more of them.

I know this request is somewhat of a long shot, but assuming that the engine is going to be considerably revisited this summer, I decided to submit it anyway.

[Edited for clarity, and also to separate it more from PS#4798. That older one would 'make the game easier' indeed, while what I suggest would only eliminate excessive mouse actions.]

Feature Request6567NoNPC DialogMediumNewmike loevenMake Npc's aware of nearby quest characters and attempt...22.08.201411 Task Description

I would like to see npc’s function as locators for quest characters so that players can “ask around town” if they cannot locate the desired npc.

until now due to the gm’s policy about spoilers and the fact that most NPC’s are pretty much brain dead except for a few very basic responses it is sometimes next to impossible to locate a specific NPC without relying on another player or a wiki website as the information is not available ingame.

essentially I want NPC’s to respond to commands such as “do you know where I can find ‘name’” they should be able to check a database of nearby NPS’s and if they are in range they can point you in the direction or if not in range point you towards an NPC that does.

sample response. “yes i have heard of this ‘name’ you can find him over by “description of location pulled from database”.

sample responce out of range.

“I have not heard that name before perhaps you should try asking ‘NPC near desired character’ in ‘city near desired NPC’

but essentially make NPC’s able to give directions or information about other NPC’s or directions to nearby areas

right now it is nearly impossible to get any information about quests without relying on other players. Npc’s should respond to questions of this nature.

Bug Report6298NoPetsMediumAssignedDavide VescoviniAnders ReggestadSome Pets commands don't work01.01.20142 Task Description

I've just tested some Pet commands (by using a summoned familiar) and the following commands don't seem to reach the familiar NPC:
/pet [name,] assist
/pet [name,] guard
/pet [name,] run
/pet [name,] walk

Please note the Minion behaviour used for pets is using almost the same data in SVN. The steps I used to replicate the bug:
1. summoned a familiar
2. issue a command /pet [name,] follow/stopattack/stay/run/walk
3. use the /info command to know the last perceived command.

When reaching step 3 the info command should show something like that:
(12:08:36) [System] >Last perception: ownercmd:stopattack
instead for the above commands an error message is outputted (just like the command was wrongly typed or isn't recognized).

By using the percept command on the NPC like /percept ownercmd:run the behaviour is correctly run and works as expected.

Also please note that assist/guard commands appear in the help.xml file while the new run/walk don't.

Feature Request4256NoQuestsMediumAssignedmickraJayRuaanAlison ColemankatuRon WhitbySemutaradrJackTilavi is in trouble, option request05.08.20101 Task Description

The quest objective is to help a certain NPC find a missing object, that's what my char agreed to do. After finding the object and proceeding to final steps I suddenly receive a ready-made line "X listens to your story" and find my char spilling its friend and ally's whereabouts to X, with me having absolutely no means to prevent or stop it. Honest, it feels like being godmodded by the quest system and is awfully disappointing, to say the least. It also clashes with the general idea of quests being done ICly.

Dear Devs, please add a "not squealing" option, something like "I've just found it somewhere" and let the player deal with one of the main ingame alignments (Law) according to that player's RP. The way it is done now, it's not C&C, it's M&C, having to bear with consequences of the game mechanics, and somehow it doesn't feel right… at all.

Feature Request5300NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedAndrew DraskoySuggestion for NPC default conversation when quests not...29.08.20111 Task Description

Currently when an NPC doesn't have a quest for player, they essentially ignore the player. This can be bad because:

1) Sometimes (e.g. the circle way quests) this comes across as a bug since the player has been directed to talk to the NPC by another.

2) It's not always (in fact generally not) a realistic behaviour from a charactization PoV.

3) The chain quests are now very long and not obvious, so players have no idea what to do next.

4) It may be something else besides more quests that is necessary. How are players to know?

I think this should be changed, and propose the following dynamic as a possibility:

A "sociability" metric would be calculated for each interaction between player and NPC based on:
factions, prerequisites required for quests, and a base number assigned to each NPC. This metric will indicate how well-disposed the NPC is towards giving quest info the player at this time. Depending on this metric (lets say a number from 0-5) the NPC could say something (or ignore the player if the number is 0). The higher the number, the more useful and specific is the response.

Some characters are grumpy by nature and will almost always ignore people or give gruff responses (like now). Many are just typical and will offer canned default responses, expect that for the higher metrics these will hint that they will have something for you later. Ideally the highest metric will look up who gives the pre-requisite quest and direct you there.

Each quest could specify overrides for any of the responses.

Feature Request5914NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedErodare LenizusSkill Requirements and Time Locks28.02.20131 Task Description

Most quests start with an intro and a confirmation for the player to accept the quest. For those that have skill requirements and/or time locks, instead of hiding the quest completely, perhaps it would be better to expose such quests when the character is otherwise qualified (e.g completed other quests in the chain) and do the skill / time check in the intro steps and have the NPC inform the character that they need to practice more before they can continue, or say something along the lines of "too busy right now, come back tomorrow". This way the player will know the quest is there, and get a hint of what they need to do. Going around and touching all the NPC's and finding nothing just feels like a bug when one knows there should be quests out there someplace.

Feature Request6030NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedHirene PenifurIdea about making crafting skills less grindy20.06.201312 Task Description

I think it would be a great feature to make a new type of NPC quests on working title "Skill quests".
It would work similar to the current quests are being developed, so you can get repeatable quests from NPCs regarding to your current skill levels, like cooking/baking quests from Harnquist.

These skill quests would repeat daily (or in any other considered time periods) and crafters could pick orders up from their trainers or other NPCs.
NPC places an order on crafting a certain item that player need to craft and would get huge amount of SKILL PRACTICE as reward for fulfilling the order.

It wouldn't touch the current skill progression system, so someone could 'grind' a skill if they wish to do that.
But we all know, how slow it is now to progress in any crafting skill.

See an example:
The rule settings team think, someone has spent 3 months with developing their blades making skill, should be at level 100 in blades making without grinding.
If a player would play regulary and come back on 60 days, and does the skill quests from NPC, they would get enough skill practice to reach level 100.

Let's say the next level of the skill would take 2 hours of mindless grinding.
But if the player would come back regulary and would do the skill quest, they could reach the same level with making (let's say) 3 products for order.
The items to be crafted would also be different, regarding to the skill level of the player and what items are craftable in the skill.
So, a player would be asked to make a sabre, a falchion, an axe or a shortsword for example.

The advantage of the extended system would be:
- rule settings developers could define a minimum time within someone should reach a certain level in their skill
- the players wouldn't need to grind all playing time spent in PS to reach their skill levels, so they could role play more or work on other skills
- the players would come back more regulary to develop their favorite skills, because the quests would repeat daily

Feature Request6668NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedJoshuaVenalanQuest completion warnings. (And safer quests.)14.11.201412 Task Description

Sometimes when talking to an NPC during a quest, it’s not obvious that saying something will end it early. For example, in the Dizzy Bevon quest, telling Charisa that you can’t get into the Winch abruptly ends it. Meaning you will never see the rest of that quest, even if you get Winch access. I thought that she would wait instead, which would be more fair to players. Apparently this game wasn’t as forgiving as I imagined. Failing quests is especially annoying when it involves typed answers too, where a typo or not being specific enough will cost you the quest. (Even if you knew the right answer.)

First of all, I feel there shouldn’t be an option to finish a quest early unless you fail, the options being either you complete it fully or save it for later. This would be much more player-friendly. I didn’t even fail the quest, I just couldn’t get into the Winch. I feel like I was punished for being honest, and possibly have missed out on some reputation forever.

Who in the right mind would back out of a quest after accepting it, anyway? I doubt anyone does it intentionally. These sorts of choices should be greatly reduced. It only makes sense during evil quests where you might feel bad about what you’re doing. If someone is feeling lazy or is busy, then they can complete the quest later, like in any other game. If these dialog options are going to remain in the game, then it may be better if they had a warning such as (ENDS QUEST), while the true ending of the quest could say (COMPLETES QUEST). This would help players avoid making infuriating mistakes like mine.

Secondly, sometimes it is too easy to fail a quest when typed answers are involved. In the Stolen Dagger (sp?) quest from Ojaveda where you have to tell Enach what it looked like, if you say “diamond”, or “diamonds”, instead of “diamonds and opals”, you will get the uneventful ending. This is made even more ridiculous because the answer is in your quest log, so it shouldn’t be possible to get it incorrect anyway. But you only get one chance. Basically, I feel quests that rely on typed text should be more forgiving, because sometimes it’s not about whether you’re right or wrong. Rather, it may depend on how many variations of the correct answer there are, so a lot of the time it isn’t the player’s fault. Sure, maybe “diamond” isn’t that specific, but it definitely narrows it down. If I say diamond, Enack should say something like “Anything else?”.

Bug Report7210NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedUadjetVenalanQuests in need of Quest Notes for clarity04.06.2021 Task Description

Noriko has been doing a lot of quest testing lately, and has found a number of quests where quest notes should be added so that returning players (or those who don’t use their logs) can pick up where they left off. I’ll pass along what she’s put in the petitions to this report.

*Road to Master Cook Chapter One
*Road to Master Cook Chapter Two
*Road to Master Cook Chapter Three
*Road to Master Cook Chapter Four

In each case, the quests notes are very good except when Mirra first gives the quest. The notes only include a generic line about helping Mirra be a better cook, and fail to mention where she’s sent you or what she wants.

*Helping Mirra

No useful quest notes at all.

*Where the Courier Went

Once the player gets the name Shian Sulkin it should probably be added to the quest notes, in case logs aren’t available.

I’ll add more as they’re reported.

Bug Report7838NoQuestsMediumReady to testUadjetThe Arrivals quest cannot be completed06.05.202421 Task Description

The quest has a number of triggers that must be completed in order to progress that do not appear to be working in Unreal. The three I’ve found are:

1) Proximity to the rock with the action location that moves players into the cave,

2) Use of a cog/mechanism, moving one of the rocks, and

3) Solving the door puzzle and entering the small room.

I’m not sure if these are supposed to complete steps that are not sequential with the immediately previous steps, or if they are meant to set variables, but either way they don’t seem to be doing the job. Talking to Raithen gives no sign that you’ve completed any of these tasks, even if you’ve done them all.

I can get players past this by setting a later step manually, but given the (suspected) use of variables or non-sequential steps, it seems likely I’ll just mess things up for them.

“You brew ales and beers I see, and smell.”

the quest master replies with the generic
“Looks like you are in search of fame and honour. Unfortunately I have not tasks to help you in that.”

The quest is not taken up accordingly.

EXPECTED:

The quest dialogue should be properly initiated and a quest log entry should appear after that.

Bug Report7974NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedDaevaornRepeatable quest awarding faction points for the wrong ...16.12.20231 Task Description

Sat 02-Dec-2023

(17:38:51) [chat] Daevaorn: Here is the armour that you asked for. Plate mail pants and chain mail pants.
(17:38:51) [chat] >You gained 13600 experience points and 68 progression points!
(17:38:51) [chat] >You received 51 circle, 4 octa, 0 hexa and 8 tria.
(17:38:51) [chat] >Your Armor Making skill has increased by 1 point!
(17:38:51) [chat] >Your faction with Weavers Tree has worsened. (17:38:51) [chat] >You unlocked a new achievement: Achieve Velvet Glove in Weavers Tree
(17:38:51) [chat] >Quest Completed!
(17:38:51) [chat] >You have completed the A Measure of Protection quest!
(17:38:51) [chat] Kethzun Guthazik: You’re done already?
(17:38:51) [chat] >Trade complete

At first I was wondering about points being deducted until I got the information that this is regular procedure when hitting the cap value.

However I was surprised to see that
- a smith awards faction points for the Weavers’ Tree
- there are faction points awarded at all for one of the skill quests that can be done (at least theoretically) up to

Bug Report7986NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedUadjetQuest Timers are invisible, leading to confusion01.01.2024 Task Description

In some quests there is a delay before you can talk to an NPC again. One example of this is Its Gone Bad. In Legacy the players got a message like “You have to wait for 10 minutes before you can continue this quest.” so that they knew what was going on, but in PSU they don’t get the message.

Admittedly, the message is very OOC, but without it there’s no way for a player to know why they cannot proceed with the quest. If the messages cannot be restored, maybe a line of dialog from an NPC saying that they’ll have more to say later?

Bug Report7991NoQuestsMediumUnconfirmedTutharelwhen completing a quest with a "choose your reward" sec...05.01.20241 Task Description

when completing a quest with a “choose your reward” section at the end, if you don’t select a reward before clicking “Select a reward” it doesn’t stop you before continuing or give you a default reward, it just completes without giving you any of the possible rewards.

When a friend completed the “Levrus Rat Eyes” quest, she forgot to select a reward before clicking “Select a reward” and received none of the options given.

Bug Report7993NoQuestsMediumReady to testDaevaornDialog option broken in "Repentance" / Keen Edge chain ...11.03.20241 Task Description

The quest option advised by Sharven (”[…] HE has decided […]”) is correctly presented by the interaction menu,

but on selection it is not recognised by Roniston (”[…] You could ask me to tell you about something, perhaps?”)

Quest progression is thereby blocked the Keen Edge chain broken again (after yesterday’s fix of “Slimy Doubt”).

Feature Request5698NoQuests DynamicsMediumUnconfirmedMario RohkrämerPet race selection for old characters redoing the quest...19.07.20121 Task Description

Several players of old characters who had a Groffel as pet before the quest wipe, and have to redo the pet quest, are unsatisfied that they don’t get a Groffel again, but a Yulbar instead. See: Status of Our Old Pets

May be that Yulbars didn’t exist at all when they got their pet.

May be that Yulbars are somehow preferred now, or there are just no complaints about Groffels so there is a bias about it.

Would it be possible (without extreme efforts) to ensure that redoing this quest creates the same pet race as before? Or would it be possible in cases of old characters redoing the quest after years that they are allowed to chose the race — for emotional reasons?

Feature Request5915NoQuests DynamicsMediumUnconfirmedErodare LenizusHide Completed Repeatable Quests28.02.2013 Task Description

I've done them…several times, and frankly I'm tired of seeing them offered. Could we have a setting for "Hide Completed Repeatable Quests" that we could enable to stop them form showing up? At least in one case, an NPC has enough repeaters that they show first and new quests are pushed to the 2nd page in NPC Dialog view. If one overlooks the page arrow, one might miss the other offerings.

Filed as Feature Request in Engine > Quest Dynamics…please move it if that's wrong.

Bug Report6047NoQuests DynamicsMediumNewMario RohkrämerQuests with sparse automatic quest notes29.06.20135 Task Description

There are quests with almost no automatic quest notes documenting the progress, except for the first note describing the purpose of the quest. This is especially annoying when you have to get a specific number of items and need to scan your logs, like in old times before automatic quest notes were implemented…

Open quests are in italics, the rest is already completed.

  • A Hammer for Hamel (Hamel Warson; only 2 notes, the second is confusing - sounds as if the quest failed)
  • Drinks in the Deep (Crosh Dunehammer)
  • Get a Performance (Roya Vuntarr; just started, but already missing a log of the direction where to go)
  • Harnquist Weapon Commission (Harnquist)
  • Introduction to Science (Durok Rrecrok)
  • Ring of Familiar (Levrus; just started, but already missing a log of the required ingredients)
