In-Game Roleplay Events / Gugrontfest MMX

Hey everyone!

It's the time of the cycle when we all are supposed to gather around and celebrate! The Elemental Light guild would once again like to invite everyone to join us in one of the most famous events in the whole realm once again. Please feel free to bring your friends, guildmates, brothers, sisters, parents, lovers, enemies,....

[OOC: Once again, let's all get together and celebrate. As some of you know, Gugrontfest is our OOC excuse for a Christmas party. The whole idea is to get as many PS player involved as possible. By "as many" I mean ex players who don't play any more as well. So, do me a favor, try to get as many of your ex guildies involved as possible. E-mail your ex guild masters... friends... enemies... you know the drill... See you all in Gugrontid (tavern) - DEC. 26'th - 22:00 GMT)]

Gugrontfest is open for all ideas. If you want to perform, sell stuff, demonstrate skills, play music, recite poetry... please do. Gugrontfest is an open minded festival. The Elemental Light will be selling food and drinks at the bar, Tomislav is probably going to kill everyone with his music (unless the cooking doesn't get the job done first). Contact Tomislav (Europe time zone) and Ketta (US Time zone) if you have any questions etc...

Cheers everyone and see you in Gugrontid
                                                         Tomislav

[Gugrontfest was one of the best events in 2008., and we promise to do our best to keep up the good work this year. (Note: 2009. Gugrontfest was a fail due to the very unstable PS client.)]

Another solution is to compile the client from source. I compiled a static version of the client and it works great.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Failure while launching game...

Had the same problem on Ubuntu 10.4. One solution was to uninstall OpenAl, but I also lost some other software depending on it (Blender etc). Since this wasn't a good option for me, I decided to try compiling the client from source. I compiled the static version of the client and it works really well.

I guess this annoyance will go away with the next release...

We broached the topic specifically to hear how the players felt and what the level of patience with wipes would be.

Then delete all the "YES" votes made by devels!  ;D

If buggy leftover items are causing crashes why not just delete all items from everyone and reset their quests.
That way everyone at least keeps the hard earned stats/skills.

Some players have spent years developing their characters, and these are the real testers of this game and many of them keep welcoming new players. Total stats/skills wipe would frustrate many and cause them to leave the game for good leaving Hydlaa an empty or at least a lot less welcoming server.

Sure we're going to have a wipe for 1.0 release, but that's going to be totally different. The game in its current state of development isn't very attractive to new players due to lack of content and many missing features. Until that changes, a total wipe in my opinion would do this game a lot more harm then good.

I don't support the wipe.

I'll try to make it. I've got a nice little collection of cooked stuff to show.

Disable shadows and your performance in areas with lots of objects should increase a lot.
This is very noticable during parties when people drop lots of food and drinks.

I'd love to test. But I could not build a working Win32 client recently. Get numerous unresolved external symbols (MS VC++ 2008 Express).

I hope Xordan will be available at such times when I can check it again (~evening/night GMT).
You might want to do a clean SVN checkout. I just comipled rev. 3007 (which was latest at the moment) without any problems. (MS VC++ 2008 Express - Debug with DLL). Check your CS version as well (you need trunk).

This time I couldn't get myself kicked even while running the client in the debugger. Good job!

What about people with fast connections? My own server kicked me while running arround npcroom1 ;D

Ok, seriously now, it probably had something to do with explosion effects creating a big lag sometimes (usualy just before appearing in camera FOV).

Thanks for making those videos mate. Those will bring back memories.
I was behind the bar most of the time and didn't really see what was going on.
Your videos made up for that.

Well, that's done.

On my behalf, and the rest of The Elemental Light - thank you all for comming.
We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did putting it all together.
Gugrontfest lasted for over 5 (yes, that's five) hours.
We sold about 300 lagers + plenty of other drinks and food.

Special thanks to everyone who contributed the roleplay by dancing, singing, playing instruments, making a mess, throwing eggs at the band... Gugrontfest wouldn't succeed without you.

Catering was done by Addeline. When you throw a party - give her a job. She's worth every tria!

Hope to see you all next year!

[OOC]

The members of the Elemental Light would like to gather everyone to a gettogether. Main reason being Christmas holidays. Since we couldn't have a Christmas party because it would be OOC (and it isn't Talad's birthday) we decided to create a parody to "October Fest". After all, it is a beer tavern with a big kitchen.

We believe it would be nice to have all players hang out for a while and celebrate another good year in PlaneShift.

All players are invited to visit and hangout. We'll start at 10 PM (GMT) but will keep it going for as long as we can. I invited many players and guilds personaly while this forum was down. If you weren't invited, don't feel you can't come. Everyone is welcome, and is welcome to bring friends, mates, dates, enemies, neighbours, doctors, pets, vets, game masters, familiars, dentists, lawyers...

Also, it is our great desire to see some inactive players in there as well. Many invitations have been sent through e-mails or other media. If you have contact with some ex players - invite them to Gugrontfest.

There are no rules. We'll provide drinks and food. Do our best to improve the atmosphere. You're all welcome to contribute with fun activities, comedy, music or other interesting role play. Create a small market if you wish. The only rule is - have fun.

See you at Gugrontfest!
