Mac OSX Specific Issues / Re: New update doesn't work, crashes program

Mac OS X Users
  • Open the PlaneShift folder. To run the initial update and check for available updates in the future, double-click on the pslaunch application, or Ctrl-click and select "Open" to override security preferences.
  • A window displays the following message: "An update to PlaneShift is available. Do you wish to update now?" Click "Yes".
  • You will see the progress of the update as recent changes are downloaded.
  • Run pslaunch from time to time to get the latest updates. Sometimes you will be required to update in order to connect to the server. Clicking on "Repair" also compares and corrects all non-matching program files against the currently released game version.
IF the launcher crashes during the update, unpack the zip file manually:

  • Open the PlaneShift folder and find the new pslaunch.zip file.
  • Unzip the file. It should expand into a folder.
  • Open the folder and replace the older existing items in your PlaneShift folder with these new files. Be careful to move the new items to the exact same location of the older items that need replacing.
This is a work-around to manually aid the update. Once this is done, the rest of the update should run fine if you open the pslaunch application again and click "Yes" to the update prompt or click "Repair".

Wish list / Re: Leatherworking
« on: November 20, 2013, 01:48:47 pm »
Believe me
I'm sorry, I don't :)
Just because, to my char, each creature whose hide she's working with is valuable/important exactly the same :)
Also, I asked because it'd be good, for me, to buy (and work with) terrible, cheap hides bought by newbies instead of precious, expensive hides bought by older characters. And my character too, she'd rather buy cheap terrible hides sold by 'poor' people than perfect ones hunted by more skilled hunters.
And it'd be the same if, for example, it meant a lower quality. Just a choice, nor right, neither wrong :)
Anyway, I thought that what I was asking was 'easy' (but perhaps it isn't) simply because it's only about already craftable things.

Wish list / Leatherworking
« on: November 19, 2013, 05:34:44 am »
I was just told that training Leatherworking past a certain lvl is pretty useless.
I also was offered to buy a laaarge amount of rat hides by a someone in need of trias.
And I will.
But then I thought "Awww, but I'd like to actually work with medium/large pieces of leather, instead of small ones…"
So, that's why I'm wondering if someday leatherworkers will perhaps be allowed (with an higher skill, of course) to sew/combine together small and/or medium pieces of leather in order to 'create' larger ones.

(This would give reasons to train more LW - and it should be a good thing, as trainers actually do exist - and would also allow players with medium LW skills to buy stuff from newbies without limiting their training - as, in order to gain more practice ponts, it would be better to craft the latest product that the actual skill level allows.)

... maybe something like this one?
(download)
I've updated this thing, so, icons which weren't 'rounded' now should all be.

@ Daevaorn: If you think you can use the icons.png contained here, please, have a look and feel free to re-use it and/or edit it...
Otherwise, of course, it can be ignored :)

Wish list / Re: Current Player Levels
« on: October 25, 2013, 02:13:46 pm »
yep, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong... but are you all really sure that the problem of people fleeing from yliakum is only and exclusively in the game?
wait, okay,  I'm not talking about those leaving bored because they feel like they were RPing in a desert, and RPing in a desert might be quite complex, no matter how many personalities/alts one is able to run.
what I'm trying to say is that I do not think new players go away because they're afraid of the slow development of the character or because they don't see crowds infesting the streets. I think they go away before they even notice these things.
and I think that it might perhaps be partly due to the "confusion" of site/forum/wiki. not that I'm complaining, and don't even think I'm totally right, as I've already said; but from time to time I think that these pages look like they were somehow abandoned/neglected.
there is a huge amount of stuff, and more... there is everything, true, but it's not very easy to consult, and there are old, useless tips close to new useful ones. good posts among boring ones… if someone seeks, then (s)he'll find everything (and then will lose the info again, and then will find it again and so on... ), but if someone takes a quick look and has no patience (
as people might be lazy, or have no much spare time to spend) I think (s)he'll find other games, maybe even less worthy but with more "concentrated" and accessible instructions.

In-Game Roleplay Events / Re: Museum Reopening
« on: October 07, 2013, 12:20:50 am »
I couldn't be there for the whole event, but, for what I've attended: glad I was there! Well done! \\o//
The event was nice and the museum looked great :) !

(And, about dwarves' controversy: I haven't noticed anything strange :whistling: , probably 'cause it was the proper amount of them, for a museum reopening...)

Piled up beside a wall like firewood beside the fireplace, folded like trousers inside a wardrobe, this entity looks at the nothing ahead with weary grey eyes.
Grey eyes, while a grey shadow extends, cannibalizing thoughts that were strong and well contoured until just a moment before.
This grey shadow has a decent strength, and personality too: similar to a rubber, it absorbs and erases thoughts, cleaning the brain, making it as dry as the scorched earth of a battlefield.
So the entity now knows that it is time to sleep, until the sun will rekindle these grey eyes, until the sun will tear again everything out of the grey.

Is there interest in participating or opposing
and, of course, if you don't know the answer yet, probably your char might contact any Peer in the One Guild to talk and find out.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Doctor Who?
« on: September 27, 2013, 01:49:06 am »
I started on the Ninth Doctor
Me too: I was looking for Fourth Doctor's episodes (episodes that, sadly, I wasn't able to find anywhere :( )... so, I finally watched these newer Doctors' series (nice, not bad, and I think Tenth and Eleventh Doctors are better than the Ninth one: Donna Noble and the Ponds were good people).

But, the real (stupid, I already know :) ) question is:
So, Rigwyn, did your son find a TARDIS, somewhere :o ?

and, trying to be less stupid:
I keep thinking that there's something to that show which would work well in rp.
This sentence is a bit too obscure, perhaps. But it sounds believable, anyway.

:o waited too much to read here... so I fear I'll go off topic, as the discussion evolved a bit since the 1st post...
Anyway...

What's funny is how quickly you can get used to not having privacy.
Even much more funny :( is how quickly you can get used not having rights, in general, so i.e. right to your own privacy or to have choices or whatever even if these seemed to be 'established' rights 'til a few years ago.
Otherwise people'd perhaps be able to answer and, I don't know, to perhaps find ways to invalidate spying programs' results with false or totally useless data… or not. I don't know. But I prefer to think that if people knew and wanted to, then, would be able to.

And, another thing… the reason is simply a silly lie to me, I mean:
Quote
I don't think being safe from terrorism or somehow ensure a greater "would-be-safety" is worth the freedom that's being given up in the process.
Safety to me is not actually a reason to anything here but a simple pretext to allow generalized control… essentially I can't see nothing for real linked to safety.

… but I'm probably paranoid :P as, to be honest, I also have so many doubts even on what terrorism really is, because to me, afterall, it looks like the new welcome fear, after the old cold war's fear was gone… so, yep, paranoid perhaps, but after all I think it might happen and it's not totally wrong when you have to deal with people or governments or companies or whatever which so seldom play fairly...

General Discussion / Re: How to run a new player off.
« on: May 16, 2013, 11:55:49 pm »
Sure :) . And I really didn't mean to criticize nor you nor anyone else! And, again, I don't think I'm saying anything really significant. Just wanted to say that it was strange, to me, to read pages and pages of explanations and no questions to 'thread's stars'! :)

General Discussion / Re: How to run a new player off.

Just a small, useless note: ok, I admit that I haven't read every-everything, but right now I have this image squatting my mind: a cage containing a character with the word 'noob' flashing on his/her/kra's head and many other characters outside, with, instead, the word 'Proper Character' flashing on their heads, pointing and looking at the caged char, whispering, jumping and wandering all around the cage.
I don't know if what is said in the first post can really run a new player off but while figuring it out maybe it'd be nice to read what some real new player think about the whole thread.
Of course, if a 8-page thread about what should/shouldn't run them off won't however run them off :P
(No offence to anyone: my opinion is that discussions are always - or, at least, often - great; I just think - and I might be wrong! - that, from time to time, it could be useful not only explain, guess and suggest but also simply ask :) )

Guilds Forum / Re: [GUILD] The One
« on: May 07, 2013, 08:46:20 am »

:: Origins ::

“I have a dream … not a sleeping dream, an aim, an ideal of the future.”

Rodef Emet (c. 730 AY - )

It was the way things were — some were born to lead, others to serve. A few climbed the ranks by slow degrees. Most were trodden underfoot, forgotten. If they had voices, no one heard. It was the way things were.

But things were about to change.

Cycles ago, a young diaboli arrived in the Dome, hoping to find his path. He saw  rigidity and exploitation in the hierarchical systems of the land, sometimes even oppression and corruption. In his mind, a new ideology based on equality took shape. Rodef Emet — his name means Seeker of Truth — set out to gather others to his cause. The road was long and many rejected Rodef’s radical ideals. The guild collapsed many times, leaving him the only upholder of the dream, a dejected wanderer in Yliakum.

Then, late one night on the steps of Hydlaa plaza, the klyros Cirerey convinced the diaboli not to give up. With renewed faith in his cause, Rodef refined his philosophy and rebuilt The One around the core virtues of equality, liberty and community.

Today, The One flourishes, with members of many different races and backgrounds. Rodef is traveling the lower levels spreading the ideals of the guild and we, his Peers, fondly look forward to his return. We stand together, a genuine brotherhood of equals dedicated to helping one another and opposing tyranny and oppression. Today, we are the voices of all free citizens.

And we will be heard.

:: Organisation ::

The One is open to all races, religions, backgrounds and professions — anyone who upholds our ideals. The guild has no leader. All members share the equal rank, rights and title of Peer. Decisions are made by democratic vote.

:: Residence ::

Amdeneir, the klyros city: successful, savvy, sophisticated — and not above seditious activity for the right cause.

In 665 AY, for instance, Ylian residents of Amdeneir rose against the klyros there, demanding equal rights. In 675 AY, Amdeneir merchants sided with a thieves' guild against the government over taxation issues. In 750 AY, Amdeneir vigesimi Rikania Torwen, sympathetic to government reform and eager to strengthen commercial ties with the non-flying races, invited The One to take up residence in the klyros city, beside the tavern. Our presence in Yliakum and our Amdeneir headquarters support trade, help fellow citizens and continue our dedication to equality, citizen freedoms and community spirit.

:: OOC ::

Hi! The One has existed in previous forms since 2009 and under this name since April 2011. Its origins and ideological development were roleplayed between 2009 and 2011. In 2012 some of us began agitating for a constitution. This arc of roleplays is ongoing and has produced some enjoyable and interesting developments. We also support other player-run roleplays and events that reach us. We are about a fun and safe community, and any anti-government activity is purely roleplay - fictitious - and does not represent OOC views towards the GM/dev team! Drawing on existing Amdeneir lore, we applied for a guildhouse and in April 2013 were given an RP-awarded house beside Amdeneir tavern.

We are recruiting, and looking for:
- all levels of roleplay and gameplay experience, whether new to the game, experienced or returning after an absence. We do not force roleplay on anyone but we do expect members to be interested in "being" their character. Participation in violent/political RPs is entirely voluntary; we interact with your character as individuals, too, and craft/trade/hunt/quest/drink etc alongside him/her/kra.
- all kinds of characters, respectable or shady. We recruit in-character -- any character with a likeminded agenda is welcome, and we have a secret, darker, underbelly if you want to associate your spy/traitor/terrorist/double-agent-whatever-type characters with us.

Our guild-members-only online forum can be found here. For more information, contact any member.
We look forward to seeing you in game!
