This thread will be closed now.

To adexmont and Caraick: thank you very much for your interest :) If you need help building, jump to IRC, channel #planeshift-build and ask for help if you are stuck. This channel is the place to be if you would like to to apply to the testing team.

Development Deliberation / PlaneShift Testing Department is RECRUTING
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:23:14 pm »
PlaneShift testing team is basically dedicated to verifying bugs and testing new material of the game. It ensures that all necessary information is provided to the devs for them to fix bugs and that no big issue prevents the release of new clients.
The testing team is currently in need or more testers, all platforms included, and is recruiting.

What does the testing team do?

Verifying bugs

  • Testers skim through the bugtracker for new reports and check that all information provided in the reports is correct and complete.
  • They close duplicate reports and try to reproduce new bugs, collecting whatever additional information is neccessary to make them reproducible.
  • They set the severity of new bugs thus ensuring that critical ones are effectively signaled to the devs.
  • Finally they test bug fixes and close fixed bugs.

Testing new material

  • Testers test new game features and new art as soon as they are implanted in game.
  • They also test new versions of the client/server/npclient all along the release process and new release clients before they are submitted to the players.
  • They run regression tests before new releases ensuring that fixes and new material don't introduce bugs likely to stop the release process.
  • They work with the latest client/server, art and data. They build client/server from the latest sources and part of their task is also to report all building issues on their platform to the devs.

What are the testing team facilities?

  • The bugtracker, obviously, with enhanced permissions for managing reports.
  • A test server, with latest version of the server engine running on it and latest version of game data.
  • An IRC channel, which is mainly how testers communicate and keep in touch with the devs.
  • A forum area and a wiki.
  • Tools for running regression tests.
  • Access to the newest art.

Who can apply to the testing team?

In order to be considered:
  • You should preferably be 18 or more.
  • You need to be able to donate 4 hours a week to the testing team. We are looking for people who can dedicate time on a regular basis to help the team.

Important but not required:
  • Best way is to verify bugs and test new features on the latest versions of the game, for this you need to be able to build client and server from source on your machine. You can do so by following the steps described in the building guide here . If you need any help to build the game or get stuck, come to IRC, channel #planeshift-build and ask for help.

How to apply?

If you would like to join the testing team register an account in the application linked to this page and contact Weltall on IRC, channel #planeshift-build.

I agree with Sarva. The situation you describe is pretty much surprising ! This shouldn't happen anymore with the changes that were introduced in 0.5.
Can you provide the stats of your characters and the weight they were carrying so I can make some tests and see if something's wrong?

Look for chests.

Deleting the shortcutcommands.xml deletes the shortcuts but not the keys bound to them. I take it that's your problem right now.
The correct way to do this would have been to clear the shortcuts in game, not to delete the shotcutcommands.xml file.

Now, you have either:

  • to delete the controls.xml file as well, in order to delete the keys bound to the deleted shortcuts. Simple but there's a drawback: you'll delete every key bindings. So if you've changed the defaults keys for movement, etc..., you're going to loose your changes.
  • or to edit the controls.xml file and remove the keys you want to set free. Not really difficult, but you better take care if reading xml is not really your cup of tea. What you're looking for is lines of the kind <bind action="Shortcut 8" key="F7" />, for example (with F7 being the key you want free), that you will change to <bind action="Shortcut 8" key="" />. If you're a under windows, use only notepad to edit the controls.xml file.

I haven't had any problem.
Do you have any particular message in your system tab when giving the items?
If you've got reasons to think that those NPCs should accept the items (because you've already made that quest in the past or because they actually ask for it in the dialog quest for example) and there is a bug, open an entry in the bugtracker, explaining where you are stuck and what you did. Make the task private if needed, to avoid spoilers.

None of them.

Otlidi Eam.
There is an item with a sign ending with the words "Steal at your own risk" and a lock glowing a ominous red. Whose item is it?

Correct.

Yet, taking it this way, you can ask what NPC trains what. After all, it's public information ingame and does not depend on any quest knowledge: one just needs to click on the NPC to see directly this information...

Whatever, my aim was just a remark to be careful as to what can be a spoiler or not (and unfortunately there's no answer for it, unless knowing of every quest, book, etc. in game).

Your answer: cure infectious wounds.

Q: who was thrown in jail and had to take leave of her (that's a hint ;)) market stall in Dsar Sarraghi because of Jirosh Mikana? (let's hope that's not used in any quest...)

The answer to this one is needed by some NPC in a quest...

Question: how many answers to questions asked in some quest step or clues to find out how to fulfill the next quest step can one find in this thread without having to look for in game?

Please, open a new entry for each of these points in the bugtracker.

It seems that the problem started for the orignal reporter of bug 3972 after a crash too.
Have you tried deleting the options folder and the planeshift.cfg file that are located in your %appdata%/planeshift folder?
