Before I get to the bugtracker with this issue, i'd like to see if i'm the only one with this kind of strange behaviour.

I've run previous releases of PS on my systems without problems (besides some crashes of course).
Since the release hit 0.5.....  i've been having major issues.
I can play the game since two weeks now and its freezing, crashing, and acts very weird. It seems like textures are flickering and let a checkerboard colored pattern through.

I made a video of it, so you can see what's actually happening: http://users.skynet.be/fa492649/textureflicker.mpeg

I'm on openSUSE linux 11.2, ati mobility radeon X1300.
Note that i played previous versions well, with nice performance.

I hope this gets solved as i'm mostly doing bugreports and testing instead of playing the game. (i've been playing a lot and i'm having a break) I'd like to help the devs, but now i need help my own.

Linux Specific Issues / Still and yet again errors while starting psclient
« on: February 24, 2010, 11:02:44 am »
Since the release hit 0.5, i haven't been able to play anymore. 0.4 series worked like a charm here.

From segfaults to errors en back and forth.

Now, as of today... i'm seeing something new. this is the ending of te output when trying to start psclient:

crystalspace.syntax.shadervariable:
  Texture '/lib/std/shadow_noise.png' not found.
  [node: shadervars,shadervar(name=tex shadow noise)]
ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.
X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  130 (XFree86-VidModeExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request:  10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode)
  Value in failed request:  0x2c00002
Serial number of failed request:  300
Current serial number in output stream:  304

I'm guessing that the major opcode of failed request means something and the number should explain what. Although googling it for a half an hour didn't return much.

Can anyone explain what's wrong? I'm anxious to test (and perhaps play) the new release.
It's been way to long since i walked the plains of yliakum  :(

aditional info;
Opensuse 11.2  x86_64
ATI mobility radeon X1300
Mesa-7.7-15.1.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-7.4-166.1.x86_64
video driver: radeon of radeonhd (both work almost equally and give me these errors) No, installing FGLRX isn't possible as my card is legacy and the driver doesn't support opensuse or kernel and/or xorg version

As the title already makes clear, i have fallen from the map. Normally your position data is being reset an you get placed on the map again to continue playing.
Problem is... i keep falling and falling. Either my client crashes after a while or the system becomes unresponsive forcing me to shutdown and reboot.

I've been having this probem with two accounts now. How can I be helped?

Since the latest update, i've been having major performance issues. A few things that come in mind (and that are also reported by some friends of mine) are:
Very high CPU usage in Ojaroad2, BDroad2 and Gugrontid. (cpu usage varies from 70-80% up to 100%)
Major issue with the use of (or being around with) campfires or torches. If i stay around it for a while, i really need to relog to get my character moving again, otherwise the game starts to be unplayable slow and hangs. i've played around with it and have noticed that putting away the fires isn't helping. You need to relog before the cpu usage and memory consumption goes away. (i've heard GM's say that's needed to cleanup ghost-fires, so that is confirmed)

I know the latest issue is a kind of normal. It's a graphics effect and expects to use more resources. Though, i think it's rather extreme on some pc's for some reason. I understand that the developpers need to implement some new things and we are in a way testers, since there is only one server for testing and playing. Therefor, i'm not expecting a fix soon for this. But i'd like to know if there's any way of reducing this issues by playing around with settings, or adapting some xml files perhaps.

In case this is usefull, and i think it is... i'm OpenSUSE Linux 11.0, KDE 3.5.9. My graphics card is an ATI radeon mobility X1300 with fglrx-drivers installed. CPU= Intel Core2Duo. Mem installed: 2GB

Greets, and see you in Yliakum  :)

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / new build
« on: June 07, 2008, 04:55:50 am »
Hi

I know this will be one of the most asked questions around here... when will there be a new client available? I'm not asking this to see or expect something new ingame, but for 2 other reasons.

1. There have been tons of bugs solved and optimatizations done. I just read in the linux-forum someone else is asking for an updated client because of possible solved bugs that: either keep peope from playing now, or would make it much nicer to play. And as you might expect ...i agree on that.
2. It would me great if the updates then would be spread by the updater system, 'cause i'm dying to use it and to see it work!

there are a lot of people who are interested in the feedback to this...

Linux Specific Issues / Linux + ATI + psclient = crash?
« on: May 16, 2008, 12:50:00 pm »
I've been waiting to ask this question for a long long time, but now it starts to get on my nerves...
a few friends of me and myself have many crashes of the psclient. we al have an ATI card, that's the only common thing i could find. I've played for about a year on an Nvidia card and i never got the problem.

Personal, I'm on opensuse 10.3 32-bits. ATI Mobility Radeon X3100 with the latest prop. graphics drivers installed (FGLRX)
Xorg 7.3 and KDE3.5.9 [don't know if this is of any use, but if needed... it's already posted here ;) ]

anyway... i as wondering, since other people on windows with ATI cards have the same problem of many and random crashes... could it be ATI realated? If yes, does it has something to do with the unpolished code in PS or is it really driver-related.

I hope someone can explain a little more about this. It's really annoying to have this AND not knowing what causes this.

thanks and maybe 'till we meet in Yliakum!

Linux Specific Issues / Graphics/Camera-config related problems
« on: January 09, 2008, 06:38:01 pm »
Hi.
Just wanted to let you guys know that i fixed something that went wrong. I don't know what caused it, so it might be a bug or something.

My girlfriend had been having problems to play since two or three weeks. When loading the world when starting the game or loading new maps in-game, the graphics would flicker/rotate and i could see things like a 3D model of a map. Sometimes it restored partially, sometimes a restart of the ps client was needed to get playing again.

I checked the errorlog and noticed something like 'camera.xml is not an xml file'
When i looked at the camera.xml file... it was empty. I replaced the empty one with an existing valid one and the problem was solved.

The pc is running Kubuntu Gutsy.
I do not know what caused this problem, only thing to tell is that before this problem started... the psclient crashed a few times.
Anyway.. it's solved, but i thought it would be interesting to post it anyway. Perhaps the devs have had something similar before.

Nothing more to say...

greets, and see you guys in Hydlaa!

Linux Specific Issues / focus on updater, otherwise no download... bug?
« on: October 14, 2007, 02:10:03 pm »
Hi

Everytime I have to update a client on windows, it runs smoothly.

But on my linux clients there seems to be a problem. The updater runs without errror messages. Though, when clicking 'update' the prog seems to be in a state of waiting. If I minimize the updater and turn back to my desktop, the updater downloads a bit of the updates. I have to repeat this progress of clicking and focussing until the updater has downloaded every update needed.

Is this some kind of extra fuction to keep us linux-minded PlaneShifters awake while updating?
No serious... is anyone experiencing the same problem? and so yes.. is this a bug perhaps...

curious about this one..

Linux Specific Issues / Client crashes/closes on loading world
« on: September 20, 2007, 03:10:13 pm »
Hello

I've been having this problem since yesterday that makes it impossible to play.
PSC runs... I login... but when I choose my character and hit "join" the client crashes short after.
It seems to be happening when the message "loading world" appears.

I even installed the win-version of the game with wine, and i get the same result when trying to play.

I'm on OpenSuSE 10.2 - kernel 2.6.18.8-509-default - i686 Athlon
KDE version 3.5.7 "release 78.1"

I only update my KDE version once in a while... should the latest build be responsible for this?
Hope someone can clear this for me 'cause my quests are waiting ;p
