Title: The Hydlaa Market
Post by: Mariana Xiechai on May 04, 2015, 07:31:12 pm
The Hydlaa Market is an attempt at two things, primarily.

1.   Create a consistent place where merchants will be known to ICly dwell on a regular bases, so people can sell the items they craft.
2.   Make a place where merchants who only “Role Play” their trades (jewelers, tailors, peddlers of odds and ends) can sell their products to players for the purposes of extending role play.

The booths in East Hydlaa are going to be where this is set up. In essence, I intend to just start settling my characters there on Saturdays around 18:00 GMT. I have three that can sit around selling things (Evirea as a bookseller, Selicree as a tailor, and Teeleh as a jeweler.)

On top of using the peddling of products to create role play, I’m hoping to have a stage put up so that, when there’s a crowd, entertainers can come and try to make money off of their performances. Religious leaders can come profess the doctrines of their faith. Guilds can use it as a launching pad for their promotion. So on and so forth.

There aren’t too many players on Planeshift, and I think it would be really helpful to have something that happens consistently (on a weekend basis or every-other-weekend) that could stir up character interactions.

If you have a character who is a merchant, consider stopping by on Saturdays and setting up shop. I will be making promotional flyers in the game. If enough people demonstrate interest, we’ll set up a meeting to collaborate on how to make these events more organized, and even plan events around the Hydlaa Market in the future.

I can honestly say I'm interested.
I've been waiting for something to be set up around there, and I might just have a merchant or two to plop over there when I can.
Try and liven the place up, you know? Sell some goods, buy some... Bads? :-X

This is an awesome idea!  Also, to add events around this is a wonderful idea as well!
Thank you for doing all of this! Anysu will gladly hang up flyers or help how she can!

Despite barely being coordinated, there were a lot of folks that showed up at the market today! I plan to get my butt in gear and will try to be ready for a more organized go-round for next weekend. As usual, everyone who's got a merchant character should definitely come. A great big shout-out to the character Miridi, who was regaling people with her unique enchanted items, which will no doubt spur a lot of interesting role play in the future. It was great to see Demagul (the alchemist) and Jilerel (from the Imperial Trading Co.) there too, peddling wares and stirring up business! I hope they had as much fun as I did. And that's what the market's all about.

If anyone has some screenshots, we'd love to see them here!

Here are some examples of Miridi's clever wares:

The Market was awesome today! We had five peddlers all trying to make a good sale!

The Ynnwn tattooist Jagzer with his colorful paints, The Dark Empire stall with their wares, Selicree the tailor, Evirea selling books, and Galrovea selling all kinds of interesting pets.

Thanks to everyone who came and participated!

Hey, Cheris,
You logged out, and then if you came back I can usually only negotiate two successful connections per day.  I really did think an Oliver Twist esque would've been fun if there were bigger crowds and not most of it at only two stalls.

EDIT:
One little thing I noticed:  you were calling them “Ruined” knives, when surely you meant ‘Runed’.
Thanks, cdmoreland.  I've not crafted weapons yet, so I wouldn't know.

"Ruined" knife is correct. They are almost worthless except for training.

As this week's Market consisted solely of the Iron Hammer Shop, The Way of The Hammer have decided to hijack the market next week and move it to a different location.
on 11th October 2015 we will open shop in the secret tavern of the Hammers near Amidison, The Broken Barrel.
other traders are welcome to come and set up inside the tavern (or just outside if it gets full).
Our master brewer, Thoraro, will be selling beers and wines to quench your thirst during the market and there may be a turn or two at the barrel brawl to keep you all entertained as well.  :D

Probably because someone can only use "office grade" graphics with lowest quality settings, so not even the lighting of the world is calculated.

Sorry that I never think about making screenshots in time, I hope to think about it during the next market... At least Esanor should have time to stroll a bit.

A quick note about the markets since this has come up a few times.

The markets are meant to be an open resource to everyone. If your character wants to sell something, simply have them show up. No asking required, no reservations. The time, 18 GMT on Sundays, is simply a convenient way to let people in different time zones come together. The function of the market is to have a consistent meeting place for all players, as Yliakum is large and converging ICly doesn't always work out.

Some Sundays will naturally be quieter of course, but the market is meant to always be "going on." Not everyone will be able to make it every week, naturally, which is why the more people that make merchants and peddle wares, the more consistent the markets will be. When there are multiple players taking the lead in something, that something has a tendency to last longer.

If you have event ideas, feel free to throw those events! Advertise them! If you want to ask Evirea or Selicree for help, do it! If you want to solo it, do that too! PM me with any questions you might have in regards to goings on.

As always, have fun with it.

I'm too lazy right now to do any more with this quote than quote it and strike through the obviously now invalid part. :-\
It's well stated, at least, and everything not with a line through it still applies... uh, mostly. Sending Mariana there a PM probably won't work, and I might just panic if you send me one asking questions about stuff I'm new to. Like events. :-[

At any rate, it's long since due for an update!

Even though you can't see him in any of these following pictures, Willam (the storage guy in Hydlaa, kind of near to Kada El's) now COMES TO YOU! :woot:  \\o//
That's great, right? Sometimes he's slow, sometimes he's lazy and doesn't want to leave "on time", but he comes to the marketplace now! Right by that billboard and all the crates. Which makes sense, if you think about it.

(http://i.imgur.com/ww88Xt8.png) (http://i.imgur.com/Tqcllf6.png)

This is the current marketplace setup! Isn't it lovely, folks? Downright gorgeous! C'mon, you know you want to RP there! :D

The advertisements on the aforementioned marketplace billboard:

(http://i.imgur.com/igD6qYd.png) (http://i.imgur.com/UcpRwML.png)

I think I got them in order from left to right, as they appear when you're looking at the billboard. Not that such things matter.

Well, that's it for now folks! Pictures, pictures, pictures galore! \\o// (Opening them in a new tab should give you a larger version of the picture. Works for me, at least...)
Maybe you'll even get more pictures from this upcoming market! Who knows?

This is apparently what happens when I read Illysia's posts for a good week or two or three or however long it's been...

Very nice post. However, there are books on the tavern advertising the market and game and they say 6pm. Who's 6pm is it referring to?
Title: Re: The Hydlaa Market
Post by: Tidebringer on October 16, 2016, 10:53:23 am
Actually, the books you're referring to are advertising an auction at the market and a game. As to who's 6pm it is, I haven't the faintest clue. ::|

EDIT:
I'm emphasizing this: the Hydlaa market officially starts at 1800 (6:00 pm) GMT https://greenwichmeantime.com/gmt-converter/ (https://greenwichmeantime.com/gmt-converter/), but don't feel too much like you have to drop by at that time and then leave an hour later, I usually stay a few hours (if I can) when I attend so as to catch more of the merchants/customers. Or just to RP, it really depends.

And someone set up a little trading post (http://i.imgur.com/Z485X9D.png), offering a variety of goods (http://i.imgur.com/Uq3CdZH.png)

There was also someone with a game and auction, but I wasn't able to sneak over there for long enough to take a quick screenshot of their setup.

For those of you interested: I attended for roughly 2 hours, from about 1800 to somewhere around 2000 GMT, and towards the end of my stay most people had left.

More pictures are welcome, if you want to share!

Jessamine, funny that the one you miss is the only (somewhat) recent one I manage to attend. ;D

Anyways, I'll definitely aim to try and attend more markets in the future, but really, feel free to share Hydlaa market screenshots of your own.

Also feel free to play around with the market a bit, and don't limit yourselves to just merchants: we need people to buy stuff too!

At the beginning of the thread Mariana stated her hope that we have a stage in the marketplace eventually, for characters to play music, preach about religion, recruit people into their guilds, or maybe even just use it for a more structured place to have an auction!

Opinions on this whole stage thing?

We had one there when I held the ball there. It was made out of small tables I think. Let me see if I can dig up the screenshots.

Edit: Alright, took me a while but I found it. This was the stage we had. The carpets served as curtains since there was no collision detection on them. Performers went around the wall and then came out on stage. Sorry for the nighttime picture, but it's the only one I've got and everyone else's screenshots are broken. For the curious, that's Venalan standing on the stage.  :D

I've seen a player sit in the small tent there with a helmet turned upside down for a hat as she played music for tria.

I love the market how creative it can be. It's pretty limitless as far as possibilities of things you can do. And I like the idea that people can come and go as you please.

Not that I'd really know, as my weather effects are turned off. But I was told it was snowing.

We had a new advertisement (http://i.imgur.com/LawaSZR.png) posted today at the market!

We also had merchants from last week's market return!

Zharai at her kiosk (http://i.imgur.com/HnMdVOr.png)
Larili's tea shop (http://i.imgur.com/7J5cbJV.png)
Gondor's trading post (http://i.imgur.com/P5zv3Al.png)
Migg's herbal goods (http://i.imgur.com/wbsqVpa.png)

Basically, there was RP, there was profit for some, there was a market, and, folks, it was fun!

If you can make it next time [October 30th, 1800 GMT], please try to attend!

You do NOT need incredibly rare, deadly expensive, or perfectly crafted wares to attend! You don't even need craftable/lootable items! I think it would be fun if some not-so-honest trader appeared and tried selling things to people.
In fact, I encourage those who decide to use their creativity and sell books that describe whatever paintings, drawings, sculptures, complex jewelry, clothing, enchanted items, or whatever else they can think of! And then, you know, try selling said stuff.

And really, not everyone has to (or should) be a merchant. We need people to buy stuff, too!

On another note, if someone has a price that you consider too high, trying to get them to lower it might just work! Who knows, it at least might make some fun RP to try. ;)

At Today's Hydlaa Market...

Willam has competition now! That is, he's no longer the only person running storage who comes to the market. This person that you can see in the above picture also arrived today at the market! If only I remembered his name...

As for the merchants today, it looks as if we have a trusted messenger (http://i.imgur.com/5ZpvuVu.png) wandering about!

That's not all, as we saw the return of Wrenn (http://i.imgur.com/pdP3GDC.png), the herbalist.
Also returning to the market, and with new drinks (http://i.imgur.com/E9LhzlS.png), was Larili (http://i.imgur.com/CyVZl1X.png)!

And Jessamine (http://i.imgur.com/ntWhUxJ.png) showed up with her culinary delights! (http://i.imgur.com/qwN0LB2.png)
She had a menu (http://i.imgur.com/UDNG9MM.png) and some breakfasts (http://i.imgur.com/SFzurzH.png).

Today, Migg had a "riding" game (http://i.imgur.com/gHpnAmX.png), where you tried not to fall off the barrel. In the background are various crates which he had as rewards for those who managed to stay on for a while!

That's all that I saw happen there, but seeing as I only stopped by briefly, feel free to add to my post, and as always, you are welcome to share your own screenshots!

At Yesterday's Hydlaa Market...

So it turns out he got a tent this time, and that his name is Jorni Yeelni.

We had a couple new merchants at the market!
They were Eymma and Kohinor, selling many different potions, weapons, shields, and armor (http://i.imgur.com/DnaSlu7.png)

Some of our veteran vendors were able to make it as well!
We saw the return of Larili's Beverage Shop (http://i.imgur.com/UwP9Ihi.png),
another appearance of Wrenn the herbalist (http://i.imgur.com/ZebND4h.png),
and of course Zharai's Basic Goods! (http://i.imgur.com/P1tlS4N.png)

At Yesterday's Hydlaa Market, I Attended and I Saw...

... and will try to bring you some tidings, so please bear with me.

The notable event was a raffle for a full leather armor set, held by Jocas lord Defaye, which attracted a small crowd.

We also had a new merchant, Maltrobian Borgar, (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market01_zpsv3gatfof.jpg) with a selection of fine weapons and armor.

Some of the regular vendors were there as well, though the delayed Dev meeting (well, GM meeting actually) made some of them late:
Larili's beverage shop (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market06_zpsp7rmzvb1.jpg) was there, offering a selection of fine beverages.
The stall of Wren the herbalist (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market11_zpstz60mfog.jpg) displayed a wide selection of herbal preparations,
while I (Migg (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market03_zps6jol2j7l.jpg)) returned to the market selling juices and herbal preparations, taking orders for Jessamine's Culinary Delights (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market12_zps5anwqbc7.jpg), and taking advantage of slow moments to play a duet with Grindulf (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market02_zps8x3hgnnr.jpg), who made an appearance to entertain attendants with his compositions and please them with his musical skills.

Being a merchant means one has to attend to his stall and customers, I should therefore apologize for anything I may have missed. Hope to see you all at the next week's market!

Another Week, Another Market...

... trying to compete with a Healers meeting made for sparse attendance.

Still, Deryna's Bar (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market15_zpsjwtddnhs.jpg) made its inaugural appearance, even though Deryna is not new to the market! Whoever did not visit lost a chance to chill out eating delicious mixed nuts and sipping a variety of fine alcoholic beverages.

A few veterans also made an appearance this week:
Larili (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market20_zpsfn6yujze.jpg) set up shop with a fine selection of beverages (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market21_zpsfjb6ht7a.jpg), for those loath to drink in public.
Maltrobian (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market17_zpsrvdrdfzy.jpg) was offering his set of fine weapons and armor (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market16_zps99zqehoo.jpg), but also had a surprise offering: A raffle for a set of 300Q maces! Lots (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market26_zpsb7rebedu.jpg) were very competitively priced too!
Finally, I made an appearance (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/Market1/market14_zpsqlrrr2rw.jpg) again to broker Jessamine's Culinary Delights, offer Migg's Herbal Preparations and perform a cameo appearance as bartender standing in for Deryna, when she left for the Healer's meeting.

At this weeks Market...

We had a several musicians this week... a Poor Menki (http://imgur.com/3Lj0ub2) And a few Dermorians (http://imgur.com/LnkjkXc)

Larili had her shop (http://imgur.com/iXISZ3Y) of drinks.

Wrenn had some dust (http://imgur.com/M42VxLm) (I am assuming to show what enchantments, she can make however I did not stop to ask)

Jessamine and Migg had their usual set up of Jessamine's Culinary Delights (http://imgur.com/FSgSdP2). And of course he had his teas and juices available to buy as well.

There were some rumors after the market about a Dermorian getting drunk and falling asleep then having some necklace stolen, but I don't think anyone was caught in this matter.

Despite Appearances...

... we did have a market this week!

A traveling minstrel visited the market this week: Dhara (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/market2_zpse66bc7wf.jpg) created a cozy set up at a corner of the marketplace, played some lovely music that attracted the market's customers and put out a helmet, asking for donations or employment (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/market1_zpsp1pdclm4.jpg).

Despite the low attendance, some of the market's veterans did make their appearance:
Larili (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/market4_zpswetixsop.jpg) was there again with her assortment of beverages, ranging from therapeutic teas and nutritious juices to heartwarming wines and refreshing ales.
Maltrobian also made an appearance (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/market5_zpsau26s9wu.jpg) with a new range of goods, always renewing his offerings to appeal to different segments of the market.
Jessamine's and Migg's stall was again set up, but was this time apparently run by a Rivnak (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/market6_zpsbpbobkqo.jpg). Did Migg stray from his post, abandoning his customers to listen the minstrel's songs (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/market9_zpslndpcmgm.jpg) instead?

Another market is forthcoming and, if you can spare some time, don't forget to visit on your way to the House of Learning's Grand Opening (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market3/poster_zpsruoxy9ug.jpg).

Had a lot of fun playing for the market. Hope to get my music selling business back up and running, soon. I've been re-tooling my selections to better fit PS, and also to make my catalog less dependent on which instrument you play, or what skill you have.

@Everyone: So sorry I haven't been able to make it to the market in forever! It seems to be doing alright, though, thanks to Migg (and everyone else involved, of course!) :)

Which brings me to this...

@Migg: Thank you SO much for all these posts and the effort you put into them! Keep up the good work.

Another Week, Another Market!

And another late post about last Sunday's market!  :-[

Larasay inaugurated his stall to display a varied assortment of enchanted weapons (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market4/market8_zpsmmbc2vf6.jpg).

This week saw the return of Jessamine to personally disperse her Culinary Delights (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market4/market7_zpsfssjvqe5.jpg), alongside Migg's Herbal Concoctions.
Larili and her excelent beverages (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market4/market12_zpsgsmrpkg3.jpg) were once more present to the delight of her clientele.
Maltobrian also set up his stall to offer the wares of Boragar Consolidated, but withdrew early (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market4/market6_zpsukxhguq3.jpg), aparently to get ready for the Hall of Learning opening.
Wren was there, this time to sell her enchanted gems (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market4/market13_zpsedpq8iwe.jpg), perfect for improving the performance of any weapon or enhancing your armor to give it that edge that could make a difference where it counts: in the heat of battle.

Some unwary customers, and merchants alike, found their purses lighter after a brief encounter with a shady character who was sly enough to evade the camera. Market goers be wary, lest you find your purses missing some coins!

This Week's Market Proved...

...that the early bird catches the worm, but the late bird can chat with everyone!

This week's market startet small, with just three merchants vying for the attention of two customers, one of whom was determined to come early, shop in a hurry and leave.

The early bird, Maltrobian, set up a cosy and attractive stall (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market5/market1_zpsgfjsrss6.jpg), getting the well-deserved attention of the early customer.
Larili and her Beverages (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market5/market5_zpsn3vsbvbn.jpg) were once more there, oferring even greater variety at the excelent quality for which she is renowned.
Migg set up his stall for Jessamine's Culinary Delights and Migg's Herbal Remedies (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market5/market3_zpsil0ew0pu.jpg), sans Jess this time.
The last to come, he was also the last to leave, attracting a slowly (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market5/market7_zps4cvuosa5.jpg) but steadily (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market5/market8_zpsn0dnhobe.jpg) expanding group of customers, who  stayed on to shop and chat well into the dusk.

Another Market...

...which we survived, despite the maulberlord invasions which the guards kept shouting about.

Some people even relaxed a bit at this market!

We had a new (I believe) fish vendor (http://i.imgur.com/SaTJqoF.png) selling -- guess what? -- FISH! (http://i.imgur.com/5rjY2pj.png)

Making her usual appearance at the market, we saw Larili (http://i.imgur.com/Gd87iGJ.png) with her Beverage Shop, (http://i.imgur.com/tNEsWS4.png) and seemed to have the best luck at the market with attracting customers.

Last, but certainly not least, Jessamine (http://i.imgur.com/B2GEqDe.png) showed up at the market to sell her Culinary Delights! (http://i.imgur.com/J3gLgLs.png) This time, however, Migg didn't show up. It must've been Jessamine's turn to be their presence in the market!

(As always, if someone has anything about this market they want to add, please feel free to do so!)

Murder at the Marketplace...

...kills the trade along with the victims!

The last market was vibrant and colourful, with no less than 9 stalls offering a variety of goods East Hydlaa hadn't seen in quite a while!

Making fresh appearances in the marketplace, new stalls expanded the usual participation with their goods:
Firke's stall (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market4_zps8wrzshhr.jpg) was loaded with an array of enchanted weapons, attracting the attention of clients and merchants alike.
Kohinor (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market5_zps5ntixiwh.jpg) peddled his extensive selection of quality crafted weaponry (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market6_zpsuchzhavg.jpg).
Terranor (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market7_zpsuhgwwm8y.jpg) set up shop to sell high quality instruments to all musically inclined.
Zharai's Basic Goods (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market8_zpsp0aexih0.jpg) reappeared, bringing to market a varied list of ingredients (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market9_zpsm69xkrbj.jpg) for all who prefer craftsmanship to fishing, hunting or harvesting.

Not to be outdone, the usual participants plied their wares to the assembled clients:
Aniroho's fish stand (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market2_zps7irsiyv5.jpg) displayed a wide variety of fresh fish (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market3_zpsw4ibs2dg.jpg) of high quality.
Jessamine's Culinary Delights (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market10_zpszjfwgsis.jpg) was once more there with her delightful cooked and baked goods.
Larili's Beverage Shop (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market11_zpsurh4tbyk.jpg) included, as always, a wide assortment of quality drinks.
Maltrobian (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market12_zpsenfddikj.jpg) was once more offering his varied and interesting wares.
Wren's Herbals (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market13_zps3uvhgfuf.jpg) was also there to offer a great selection of quality herbal preparations (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market14_zpshr43appn.jpg).

Things were looking good for merchants and buyers alike. The market was buzzing with activity, as people moved from stall to stall to inquire prices and trade goods.

It was then that an arrow shot from outside through the city gates struck an Ylian visiting the marketplace. The victim's screams threw the market into confusion (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market15_zpsryk7a1ec.jpg), as everyone run about trying to understand what happened. While people armed to defend themselves and rushed to help in any way they could, the Ylian sadly departed for Dakru's realm. The search for the perpetrator proved fruitless.

The commotion had still not died down, merchants and customers were talking about the terible incident or departing (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market16_zpsrdjdpzkj.jpg), when a dwarf started to choke on his beer and, apparently severely injured by an object placed in his mug, fell to the ground (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market6/market17_zpsdexvuxd5.jpg). Despite the best efforts of the healers present at the scene, the second victim also expired.

An incident with an audacious female Enkidukai pickpocket did not help matters. A market that had started promising and cheerful ended in woe and fear. These murders follow previously reported killings at the Hydlaa Plaza, and have caused concern and grief among the populace. The guard has been informed and is currently investigating the incidents.

Does the Market Happen...

... if there is no one to write about it?

It certainly does, and warrants a post, because it was varied and interesting, even if it didn't attract the crowds of the previous week.

A new stall was taken up by Bralke (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market03_zpss6lp1nfk.jpg), who brought his varied materials (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market02_zpsmwtpo9qm.jpg), often sought after by crafters of the dome.
Another was hosting for the first time Harither's collection of shields (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market06_zpshz7bjhl1.jpg) for fighters of any race, gender or size.

Undeterred by the previous market's unfortunate incidents, some of the merchants chose to attend once again:
Larili (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market04_zpsc5tvl92u.jpg) was there with her always varied quality beverages (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market05_zpszximr4kn.jpg).
Terranor (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market08_zpsduq9oryb.jpg) was also there to offer once more his exquisite selection of musical instruments (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market07_zpsyl4gcbqu.jpg). What really caught everyone's attention however was his adorable baby groffel (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market09_zpscbvbfrzb.jpg), playfully running arround and always filled with curiosity.
Migg was also there, this time running a game of skill (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market7/market10_zpsqor1lqwk.jpg), requiring players to throw copper disks into vases in order to win crates and chests filled with valuable prizes.

Does a Successful Market...

... successfully attract trouble?

This week's market certainly did attract both crowds and trouble!

The market started with the arrival of a company of two merchants, Aseroth and Kodron (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market01_zpsuve56vb7.jpg), coming for the first time in search of clients for their mining goods (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market02_zpseexyxgxq.jpg).

They were soon followed by other merchants often present at the market:
Maltrobian (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market03_zpsfxtgv0or.jpg) was there once again, offering an ever expanding variety of merchandise.
Wrenn (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market04_zpsa9fym3oe.jpg) was offering her well-known and valued Herbals (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market05_zpspebfmwzo.jpg).
Migg (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market06_zpsvbrf6wgn.jpg) was there again, this time offering his herbal preparations along with Jessamine's Culinary Delights (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market07_zpsje6fnzpk.jpg).
And Harither (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market09_zpsws5ospir.jpg) set up his stall to display his crafted shields and armor.

News about the mining goods on sale spread like fire. Aseroth and Kodron soon found themselves surrounded by a veritable throng (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market10_zps6dktg2ba.jpg), crowding to buy their ores and gems.
Right next to them a new merchant, Tarotin (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market11_zpsk5zobuwi.jpg), strived to set up his stall and trade weapons of excellent quality to his clients among the din.

Not everyone gathered was interested in the trade however. Among all the crowding and jostling, some shady character bent on murder cut Larili's aspirations of attending one more market short, and sent her to the Death Realm. At the same time, the market was dealt another blow that sent merchants packing and crowds dispersing.

It was thus an ever thinning crowd (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market12_zpsunhbd0r8.jpg) that saw Sliss (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market13_zpssazeiopp.jpg) set up his stall of Alchemical Potions (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market14_zpswpgpnmbs.jpg) for the first time.
To this merchant the victim went (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market15_zpsz02j6tfq.jpg) to place the wooden needle (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market16_zpstkydnszo.jpg) she found upon her person as soon as she came to her senses in Dakru's realm. Most present gathered around as the merchant, a renowned Alchemist, was called upon to examine the needle. A trace of poison being found, Maltrobian volunteered to act as the test subject that allowed Sliss to properly identify the type of poison. It took some pricking with the needle and some of the Alchemist's poison antidotes to properly identify the poisoned carcaras blood in which the needle had been soaked. The test subject suffered nothing more than mild discomfort, and the prominent display of the antidotes' effectiveness secured the Alchemist some decent sales. Identifying the murder weapon however did little to further the cause of locating the culprit of yet another murder. And the fact the poison had rendered the victim unable to recall her last moments at the market did nothing to help matters.

Few still remained at the market when a new tailor, Velshrhea (http://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv185/miggellorean/PlaneShift/market8/market17_zpsslshdlfw.jpg), set up shop under the tent and offered her services to lingering market clients.

Does the Market Suffer...

...if nobody has been writing about it?
Apparently not! As you can see above, citizens have once again found they can gather at the market to buy, sell, and even just chat without fear of the mysterious Hydlaaic Murderer(s) striking again! Is it a true peace, or merely the calm before the storm?

A certain new advertisement (http://i.imgur.com/XsScZXi.png?1) on the market place's billboard promises the potential of keeping the citizens of Hydlaa up to date on the going-ons of the city, as well as offers the opportunity for citizens to help out with informing their fellow citizens, and should the current peace Hydlaa seems to be in break, surely we should hear of it!

As far as the merchants go, Zharai (http://i.imgur.com/1Z1TSWb.png) made an appearance with her basic goods (http://i.imgur.com/igD6qYd.png) again, and the healer, Sacho, decided to make a temporary appearance (http://i.imgur.com/cX2uAqK.png) at the market, selling potions, herbal preparations, and enchanted gems! (http://i.imgur.com/cVg9cJY.png) Migg also reappeared for today's market, though he spent most of his time talking to the other merchants, and so was casually running his stall (http://i.imgur.com/BD6Ubkd.png) while chatting with the other market-goers.

Migg has set up a barrel riding game area (http://i.imgur.com/lJmiiFJ.png) which promises more barrel riding games in the future, but at this market some precious, fragile wares (http://i.imgur.com/LPPYdcd.png) nearby discouraged a barrel riding game for this market, for fear of damaging the delicate mirrors!

Well, that's all I have to say about this market! As always, if any of you want to add some story I missed or just share the screenshots you took, feel free to do so!

For those of you who maybe don't know yet, the Hydlaa Market takes place every Sunday, starting at 1800 GMT (time converter link) (http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/) and lasting until whenever people feel like leaving. The Hydlaa Market is an open place for players to gather to RP, try and make a little money, allow people to get the stuff they need, and really just to have fun. You don't have to come as a merchant, as we certainly do need people to buy as well! To those merchants out there, you don't need super rare, deadly expensive, perfectly crafted, or even just plain looted items to sell -- if you're using books to write out RP wares, you're using your creativity, and that's awesome!

Remember that the main limit with this is your creativity; don't be afraid to experiment with playing as shady merchants, peddlers of odds and ends, priests coming to spread the word of their god(dess), bards playing for a few tria to pay for that drink they're fond of, crafters of exotic works of art, treasure-hunters selling their treasures or looking for someone to come with them, con artists trying to make off with everyone's money, mercenaries offering their services, tailors hoping to get a job that will show off their talent, actors wandering about looking for some opportunity to practice their trade, writers selling their books to admiring readers, some unsettling character in the shadows grinning at people and stroking a snake... truly, the possibilities go on and on, and the more character and imagination that's put into them, the more the RP will be enriched -- though that's not to say all characters should be or are expected to be like that.

So remember that the market is open for RP. If you want to hold an event there someday, you can do that and it would be great! You can ask for help from GMs or fellow players if you want, or you can run it on your own -- that's all perfectly fine. Even if you don't want to do something "big" at the market, stopping by to walk about and chat with other market-goers is not only a great way to help the market continue to grow and be amazing, but it's a great way to get RP and find out who some of your fellow RPers are, or even to RP with players you don't get to RP with very often.

As I've said so many times before, the possibilities are endless. Explore that, maybe enjoy it. Who knows, it might even prove to be exceedingly fun! ;D

the Hydlaa Market takes place every Sunday, starting at 1800 GMT
Remember that you don't need to wait for 18:00 GMT to come. It's not a GM event. If there are people there before 18:00 GMT, then the market begins before 18:00 GMT.
Title: Re: The Hydlaa Market
Post by: Tidebringer on March 29, 2017, 01:40:20 pm
Exactly, Aeghiss. What I meant by that was that it's the "official" start time for the Hydlaa Market. It's not a rule, it's just a guideline to give folks an idea of when they can try and get together to make it happen. If there are people who come before, that's great! If people show up a little later, that's fine too!

I quote:
The markets are meant to be an open resource to everyone. If your character wants to sell something, simply have them show up. No asking required, no reservations. The time, 18 GMT on Sundays, is simply a convenient way to let people in different time zones come together. The function of the market is to have a consistent meeting place for all players, as Yliakum is large and converging ICly doesn't always work out.

So while the market can certainly start early whenever people show up early, the 1800 GMT start time is a convenient, set time for people to aim for so it's easier for them to know approximately when they should to go to the marketplace in order to join in or start up the market.

Gunderan & Sons Plumbing sent a salesperson to the market yesterday, and foot tubs and standing sinks were finally available to players for purchase! That won't be the only time they show up, so don't forget to check future markets if you missed the chance to buy them this time around.

The Yliakum University may need a few more sinks, for the student and staff barracks as well as for some laboratories; but how many and where? We will have to make an on-site appointment in Amdeneir.

And thinking of our neighbors, the hospital will need some too!

Indeed we will!

I think the hospital could do with at least a sink somewhere around or in the surgery room. It is, after all, important to clean up after such procedures!

But also a tub for treatments with specific temperature ranges, for hydrophilic species, possibly even to ease a birth ... Doctor Forita can imagine a few uses.

True, but a tub would be harder to find a place for, being larger and such. Most of areas in the Hospital are already occupied or are mostly unsuited for a tub.

The Hydlaa Market...

...takes place at a consistent time and location (for ease of gathering)
Market Time: Every Sunday, 1800 GMT (http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com/)
Market Location: East Hydlaa, Merchant's East Road, Merchant's East Square (where the gates out to Ojaveda are)

...is an excellent opportunity to gather for roleplay!
Merchants, customers, passers-by and the like can all interact to create fun roleplay, regardless of if anything is bought and sold!
You don't have to be selling incredibly rare, perfectly crafted, or specially renamed wares to attend - you don't even have to be a merchant!
Your only limit is your imagination. Take some IG books, write out descriptions for your RPed wares, and hit the market with your creativity!

...is a weekly, player-run event!
GMs can occasionally take time to set up a merchant's stall and offer special wares, but the Market needs players to make it happen
Even a little time at the Market goes a long ways, so stop by to window-shop - maybe you'll find something you want, a person to chat with, or a chance to sell your wares!

Some Final Notes

Now, I know that not everyone always has time to stop by the Market because of RL, and I completely understand that situation. I can't even always make it myself, which is probably why I'm trying to poke other people into going like this. If someone in that situation gets just a little time, they might want to drop by quick and poke their nose around. You can, after all, come and go whenever you like!

However, I would like to address a few other comments I've heard from people regarding not attending the market, so that I can offer possible solutions. Here they are:

One solution I can think of for this is to make another character. Yes, that's right; I'm suggesting you make an alt. While making an(other) alt can certainly be time-consuming and make things a little more complex, it can also prove to be very rewarding, especially if it gives you the excuse you need to run rampant through the market and cause and/or participate in some fun RP for everyone there.

All I suggest is that if the above is you, you make another character, one more tailored to the market; someone who is fine with going to crowded places, someone who has a great need to buy stuff, someone who absolutely needs to chat and gossip with everyone, someone who has some interesting (or "interesting", take your pick) wares to sell, someone who just likes creepily watching people while hiding at the edges of large open areas... truly, the possibilities are endless.

I'd even dare go so far as to say, "You don't have to make a character for the market that has a detailed story." Of course, if that's the sort of thing you want, that's the sort of thing you want, and I'll mention you can always sketch something out and then work on it as you waltz about the marketplace. It doesn't have to be "perfect" right away, or even at all. Believe me. I've tried. ;D

Make a reason. Far easier said than done, I know, but it really is a great solution if you can at least come up with a little something.

Maybe your character was bored and wanted to see who there was to chat with or mischievously torment at the Market. Maybe your character had a sudden urge to go on a spending spree. It could be that you(r character) need(s) some ores, herbs, hides, animal parts, fish, or other materials for crafting. Maybe your (character’s) weapon or weapons are in need of repair, or you want some magical items identified. Perhaps your character is a musician or storyteller and wants to try earning some tria.

What if your only reason to go to the Market is to roleplay? Then do that! Brainstorm a little, maybe; these are only a few ideas that I've listed. If you find that your character just never seems to have any IC reason to go to the market, maybe view the point above; it could potentially be a little helpful.

Well, first off, I think I should just say this: stating something as being "never" makes the statement somewhat inaccurate. There are people that go to the Market. Maybe they don’t go when there's a scheduling conflict with a Dev Q&A that day, and maybe people don’t always have time to stick around long enough for there to be a proper Market, but people do go.

There's another little thing I'd like to point out. If everybody is thinking, "Oh, nobody's at the Market, so there is no Market, so there’s no point in staying in this marketplace,", then obviously nobody is going to stick around long enough to allow the Market to actually get started and become something. There will be slow, quiet days. There will be fast, packed days. There will be days that fall somewhere between the two. It varies greatly, and if the Market seems slow one day, don't get discouraged; keep at it.

The key is to persist, to keep dragging your wares, tria, and buddies over to the marketplace and to throw up your hands in the air shouting, "Market time!", until people start prancing over to you, overflowing with excitement to see what you have to offer – be it in the form of goods you're selling, the money you have to pay for their wares, or even just your company.

The last trick to this is, when someone calls out, "Market has started!", or some such comment in gossip, such as advertising their business or the market as a whole, do everybody and yourself a little favor and hop on over to liven things up a bit.

That was terribly long. If you don't read it all, I won't judge; it's your choice. Hopefully though, if you did bother yourself to read it, you found it at least somewhat helpful or encouraging.

Much love. :innocent:

A Little Rain on the Market...

...doesn't dampen the success!

Now let's see if I actually remember how to do this, now that I've finally remembered to actually take screenshots. That's right, folks, I'm not perfect either!

This time at the market, Jessamine's Culinary Delights (http://i.imgur.com/WKU3Oj1.png) returned! Right alongside her, Migg was selling something a bit different, (http://i.imgur.com/GxGhgTB.png) perhaps due to arriving after another herbalist whom we haven't seen before (http://i.imgur.com/eWcrrKG.png?1) already set up! (Who also happened to be one of the unlucky souls I completely missed when taking screenshots. I swear, I have absolutely nothing against you, unlucky soul!)

Gracing the market yet again and supplying all the market-goers with her fabulous beverages, (http://i.imgur.com/aFUbo38.png) Larili was here once again! Unlike a certain other merchant, (http://i.imgur.com/Y9qtdf4.png) Larili seemed to thrive in the rain. On the other side of the marketplace from Larili, we had a merchant selling a wide array of shields, weapons, and armors! (http://i.imgur.com/Z4fdOqE.png?1) I even heard a thing or two that he might've been hiding away some jewelry to sell to those who asked for it. Just behind him and a little hidden out of sight was someone selling potions for low, low prices, (http://i.imgur.com/paaFmQO.png?1) and she too managed to make away with a little more in her pockets than she started with! (Yes, I know, both of them are also those poor souls I forgot to take proper screenshots of. Sorry!)

Last but not least, we had a very special merchant, whom many had been waiting for, (http://i.imgur.com/pELdR8B.png) stop by this market! I also happen to know that the Hospital of Amdeneir decided to get a sink... or five. (Yes, yes, I also know that I managed to get his name tag in there by accident! I'm sorry! I guess my screenshot-taking skills have gotten rusty from lack of use...) :whistling:

It might be important to you to know that there have in fact been markets going on when they aren't posted about. It might also be important to you to know that this market started a little bit earlier due to the Q&A, which sounded a little like it was more GM than Dev.

Anyway, as always, if anyone out there wants to post some screenshots of their own and/or share a little story from this market, please feel free to do so!

Many thanks to those of you who participated, and I hope to see you at future markets!

While I have to admit that I am not as regular a presence at the market as I used to, I still find the occasions I do manage to attend very rewarding.

The new market layout, already discussed in another thread (http://207.244.96.64/PlaneShift/smf/index.php?topic=43339.0), is in my eyes a great improvement, and has prompted a new type of RP: Items can be purchased and consumed on the spot, thanks to the tables and benches set up in the new market. I find this quite interesting, since it merges the market with an open tavern, prompting a combination of the RP related with either. People who attend can buy a few things and sit at a table to eat, drink and chat with other visitors.

So, make the new market your meeting place: it is worth a visit!

And I can't forget, Emaline and any other GMs or any Devs that helped out with making that new market setup with the crafting, thank you so much! From what I've managed to see so far, it has really helped increase the RP going on there.

Thanks again.

Does a lone post resurrect a thread?

Does a lone merchant resurrect the market?

Say what you like about the thread, but the market was never dead. Even a lone trader can bring people together for a chat, some shopping, and some good RP!

It was Larilli who has kept the market alive through thick and thin, persevering even when no other merchants would set up their stalls for the market. And she did a good job, offering her usual wares, always of excellent quality, but also inaugurating a new service this week: Offering the products of other crafters for sale through her stall!

So if you craft but are too lazy to set up your own stall, look for Larili, she may be your portal to more customers and better sales! And if you care about RP and want to find similarly minded people to interact with in-game, remember the market is always there, in East Hydlaa, every Sunday at 18:00 GMT! The answer could be...

Yes. And yes. Maybe...

Because the market saw more attendance this week, mostly in the form of merchants new and old, that may mark an up-tick in the market's comings and goings.

More merchants set up in the market this week

Larili Soriol was of course there, ready to sell her fine brewed beers, wines, meads and ciders, offer her excelent teas and fruit juices, or trade other crafter's goods. As always, her stall acted as the center of attention for the, unfortunately few, customers who visited the familiar space by the East Gates.

Larili at the center of attention

It was not for lack of variety that so few visited the market. Besides Larili, Migg Ellorean chose to rejoin the market as a merchant, offering his fresh made juices along with some food and bakery creations made by his wife, Jessamine.

Harither Nilerave was also there to offer his sturdy and reliable shields, into the making of which a lot of effort is expended, as could be clearly seen by the crafter's tired countenance and rather swift departure.

But it was this market that was chosen by two new attendees, Dorbaine Tennet, proprietor of the renowned Tennet Trading Company, and his trader, Agna Grudd, to offer a wide selection of glyphs ranging from the common to the rare. The merchants had already been stationed at the Hydlaa Plaza, and moved to Hydlaa East for the duration of the market. They extended their stay in Hydlaa, and it is widely believed they moved a great number of glyphs, both as purveyors and as experts at acquiring and appraising stocks of glyphs.

So, the market is very well alive and running, despite the fluctuations coming along with the new times. As for the thread, who knows? If people continue to post and share, it may still rise from the dead into new prominence and glory.

The Market had Merchants and Customers...

...and reporters, oh my! ;)

Well first things first, the amazing Larili (https://i.imgur.com/pzGXplt.png) was there! For those of you who maybe don't know, Larili has a beverage shop (https://i.imgur.com/wtZuOPr.png?1) that sells many amazing drinks. Even if those drinks don't interest you, well, Larili offers something special: general wares (https://i.imgur.com/H1vqqhT.png?1) from other merchants!

Amazing, right? You know what else is amazing?

People gathered at the reporter's kiosk (https://i.imgur.com/bDxbNnb.png) to buy a copy of the newspaper! That newspaper just so happened to be the first issue of the Hydlaa Chronicles (https://i.imgur.com/PxsApun.png?1), a newspaper just starting off. (And yeah, maybe the name sounds familiar to some of you, but that's bound to happen eventually ;D)

All in all, it was an enjoyable market, profits were made (or mildly lost, depending on how you look at it), and most importantly people were there! People who talked!

Once again, as always, if anyone has screenshots or what-have-you from this market that they'd like to add, feel free!

*Tidebringer looks around for a moment before slowly setting the defibrillator down and waiting to see what happens next.

Larili has been the cornerstone of the market for so long, I just can't say enough to praise her! Migg is too lazy to setup of late, but he still tries to go to the market whenever he can. He is one of the residents for whom the Hydlaa Chronicles is the town's fresh newspaper, the name doesn't ring any bells. He is still reading the first issue, and thinks the long efforts of Layenel Mawaen, the publication's reporter, writer, editor and publisher, came to fruition in a splendid way and at a very opportune moment to fill a gap in the town's, nay, the Dome's need for news reporting! Just hoping to see more reporters and writers come forward to contribute to this commendable effort.

And indeed the market had some vibrant presence this week, I really enjoyed it, and hope the trend will endure!  \\o//

A tiny but tuneful market today. Larili was there, as usual, with her beverages and general store. Migg was selling flower arrangements, and Dharah had her cap out for passersby to add spare change to as she played her lute.

Later, Zakena came by to play some skillful duets with Migg. Gag Hammond (and familiars), Kalterina, and Famiel rounded out the participants.

I felt this particular market attained a quite colorful character, and thought it certainly deserved a post in this thread. Thank you for all these beautiful pictures! And hope to see everyone back at the next market!

I hope someone got pics of the market today, I didn't get a chance.

Small market, again. Larili was ever-faithful with her beverage stand, and Dharah was selling musical scores, at least until I had an anxiety attack and had to leave (many factors, not just the market).

Migg, I'm working on your songs. Xola, you can pick yours up whenever we're both online. I do still need to figure out a price, though.
