Wish list / Re: Old skins worked into current versions
« on: December 22, 2009, 02:33:02 am »
The changes made to the GUI are in how they are defined. It is now much easier for others to modify them or create new ones, as much less is defined in code (as it was before). The art team did not have time to create more than one functional skin though. But since it is now so much simpler to create one yourself, we hope there well be enough choice when players create their own.
If you need help in figuring out what to do, there are often people who would like to explain things in IRC (#planeshift or #planeshift-build).

It is kind of a shame that nearly a quarter of all people claim to be insane (I mean atheists.) Perhaps what is needed is an Inquisition to stamp out blackflame followers which could persecute the irreligious.

I chose atheist myself because I only follow whichever god I am in the presence of and have never met one.
Ah, you beat me to it. I noticed that too. With a further 6% following a not publicly existing god, it means only 2/3 actually know what they are doing? :)

General Discussion / Re: WARNING: DO NOT REPAIR WEAPONS
« on: December 18, 2009, 12:13:33 pm »
I have lowered the value of a pair of axes and a pair of sabers by repairing them. It seems there may be some bug involved. The axes were 299/300 and repaired to 296/296. The sabers were 290/291 repaired to 284/284.  I am level 50 in weapon repair.
That sounds about right. The idea is that a repair does wear the weapon down. It should make the economy more involving people who are good in repair and/or people crafting new weapons. Now that you know a repair will cost you that much quality, you will learn not to repair until your actual quality is way below that value. In total, depending on your skills, you should be able to use the weapon quite some time, but then you will buy a new one.
Things may still need tweaking, but should be OK in general. Do not repair high quality weapons if you do not have the skill to repair them, you will ruin them. If you have skill, do not repair if not needed.

He found an almost implemented new feature! Try logging out in that rock, and logging back in.

Server Status / Re: December 11, 2009: server down?
« on: December 12, 2009, 07:07:51 am »
Its automatically updating it. It is always estimated to more than 6 hours from now! :)

The DEP message is not really related. Best to keep DEP as it was, since you cannot just switch it of for one program, without first enabling it for all others (which may cause new problems). I had it happen before, but the actual crash was before DEP interfered.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game / Re: Update needed??
« on: December 10, 2009, 12:19:33 pm »
i didn't get that
when the server is updated should i update planeshift or should i redownload it?
That depends on what version you already have. If you have 0.4.03 (lately only working on the laanx server), you need to download a new install. Either use the direct links bovek provided (see above), or download the previous release candidate from the link ON THE NEWS PAGE, and update from there.
If you already had the release candidate (working only on ezpcusa), you should be able to just update.

Also, I was told to find Xordan, who apparently isn't in the tutorial anymore.

Xordan is a dev, I'm sure you meant Xargon, who was there last time I teleported down there to check ALs.
There is a bug that results in not always all characters and items to be visible. In tutorial this can mean npcs such as Xargon or the furnace.

In any case guys you obviously never really try to install this on a freshly installed system... you should really consider at least SOME compatiblity testing  I mean is it really such a big problem to install a fresh copy of Windows in a virtual machine and try to install the thing there?
You obviously never really try to do compatibility testing for a cross platform game that is this cross platform, and under continuous development. We could try clean installs for all windows configurations we can think of. But that would mean not test other parts. Or skip macs for even longer. Or leave the big bugs we do know about so you would crash a minute later. Also, fixing such bugs would mean doing all compatibility testing all over again. And then we would still miss that one configuration where OS, service packs, hardware, driver versions and install directories are such that things go wrong. Instead, we do the best compatibility testing we can get: we pre-release in a way that everyone can safely try things, and report back problems they encounter so we can get them fixed. If you cannot find the few minutes to do so in a correct and friendly way, do not get upset because we spend our many minutes on other problems :)

I might be too stupid, but the main site only offers me downloads for 0.4x =x
Use the links provided in the news article. The download site probably still points to the Laanx compatible install

Just before everyone gets too exited about nekos post: Some things are implemented but not available, and in general there are some things that do not work as they are supposed to:). Devs fixed some really bad bugs last weeks, but it seems the released clients have some that were gone before. If you find bugs, please check http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/flyspray/ to see if it was reported already. If not, make a new report.

Have fun!

Also, just to prevent everyone from thinking you will get access to the test server by building your own client, to become part of the test team you should also have shown your ability to help with testing reported bugs, help keeping the bug tracker up to date and clean, etc. :)

Also, many bugs with these spells have been fixed with a new scripting system. New bugs may be introduced with the next release, but it is unlikely this one will still happen.

Over 90% of the crash reports send to me have the specific numbers shown in that post, and ALL of those are in the ati driver. I never saw a similar one in non-ati cases. I prefer to keep this thread clean, so we should discuss this elsewhere.

About sending crash reports: with major changes to CS coming with the next release, crash reports are of less use at the moment, and may lay around in my inbox for quite some time. Best to retest with next release. If you cannot play the game due to a crash, check in the forum or find help on IRC.

Not only ATI related, happens with Nvidia (6800 GS) too: Address 006D9067 at map changes.
I doubt that Nvidia will crash in the ati driver as well :). Because that is definately where the other crashes were.
