The first time I created my character I came across a few errors but it was working fine. Later on I decided to try creating another one but all of the race images were gone and I couldn\'t select anything.

I tried restarting the computer and leaving it but it the create screen is still bugged even though it worked before and I haven\'t altered anything.

I suggest you try uninstalling it then reinstalling it, if that doesn\'t work then maybe hold off until next update, you can\'t do much now anyway besides have a look at a city in development.

If you tried walking all the way to the very end of it, it is a very long distance.

If the PS world is that big then that will be very cool. I can just imagine flying some sort of winged creature through the sky passing everyone underneath me, going to one city then the next, ahh that would be the life.

A common thing amongst most MMORPG\'s is what you said, and is a good idea but it shouldn\'t replace player shops in my opinion.

Sometimes when you leave a msg to buy something or sell something, you then have to check back, see if you won it, whether or not you need to bid more, etc etc. Sometimes you won\'t even have the time to pick up the item and it is often a long process.

Say if players could rent or buy their own shops and put any items they had in it, and put a price for them they liked. That way if anyone was interested in buying an item another player had, they could just buy it from the shop and the player who owns the shop would automatically get the money credited onto their account so that next time they log in they will have the money.

Perhaps shops could be like this -

Small Shop -  Rent: 2000GP/week   Buy: 80 000GP
Large Shop - Rent: 5000GP/week   Buy: 200 000GP
Warehouse - Rent: 10 000GP/week Buy: 400 000GP

Excellent idea,

Having fares would really add some character into the game and make it fun and exciting after weeks of hard training.

Very good idea,

I like the idea of customising the spells and creating new ones but how it will be done exactly is another thing as there are many ways it could be done.

Perhaps each school of magic is related to a certain thing, ie the red magic casts spells which cause fire and burning, the blue causes healing etc, crystal can be primary attack spells and brown could be non combat related such as alchemy, herblaw etc.

If you have lets say a high level in red spells you could combine a certain feature in it to do with fire with crystal to make a primary attack spell which has an effect of fire with it, or something else.

Each spell could consist of about 5 attributes,

Healing:
Power:
Range:
Elemental:
Destruction:

You can use different attributes the higher your magic is in a certain type (crystal, red, brown) to make a unique spell combining all of them.

What are your system specs?

If your running Windows NT 5.0 or higher a good solution is to right click the psclient.exe, click compatability mode and then choose \"Windows 98 / ME\". That should hopefully fix the problem.

Technical Help: Problems BEFORE entering the game /

About the selecting text box error you were encountering,

This randomly occurs from time to time for me, just try quitting the game and leaving it for about 10 minutes then start again. I don\'t know why you have to leave it for 10 minutes, if I leave then join again it doesn\'t work but if I leave it for 10 minutes it does.

I think it\'s important that we know each others skill levels from the time we see anyone, especially in areas where we can fight each other.

A few people said that we could judge peoples skill by what they were wearing, this is not really the best solution because a level 99 fighter could wear full bronze armour just to fool somebody, and when the battle begins, you will die pretty quickly if your not near his level.

I do agree with having a Green, White, Yellow, Red indicator as the persons name indicating their level compared to yours but also in brackets next to their name should be their level, ie.

Pancake Man (Level 5)

Just having their names in red isn\'t enough, I know in previous RPGs I enjoy dueling people who are in red but only say 10 levels higher than me because if I use a bit of magic and I train purely attack instead of defence I am able to defeat them with a bit of luck, but if they were 30 levels higher than me, then ofcourse I wouldn\'t stand much of a chance. So if you saw someone who was red you would want to know what level they were before you engaged.

Another suggestion someone pointed out that it shouldn\'t be told what level someone is, we should fight them and find out. Well once alot of people reach a higher level combat and we walk around all the \"newbie\" areas of the game and some new people who just got their brand new bronze sword and want to try it out accidently attack a level 100 because they couldn\'t see what level he was, is a bit unfair for the newbie and would be a common scam trick.

Great ideas though everyone, after all the better RPG is one that is a bit different to the rest in its own unique way 8)

Granted or negated Wishes / Security
« on: September 14, 2002, 03:25:13 am »
Something I think that should be thought of before beta finishes and perhaps implemented is a good security system.

I have seen many games including Fierce Harmony, Diaspora, to name a few that have all gone bad and no longer exist because although the creators produced a great game, the networking security was very poor and thus ordinary people exploited bugs and more advanced hackers were able to customize their items and the game to the way they liked it.

Now it may be thought that you can just simply make the game server based instead of client based so that all stats are saved onto the server and therefor nobody can cheat because they can\'t alter their files to effect their character, this is sadly not the case.

You don\'t have to actually hack into the main server in order to change settings in the game, when you are running the game doing various techniques on a low security server, any loops or bugs are easily compramised (and im not talking about junior networking kiddie techniques).

It all comes down to if your prepared from the start to stop cheating, because I have seen many games who say that they will deal with it when it comes, but the problem is, is that it will come and you will always get people attempting to cheat and if you get someone who knows what he is doing it, unless your networking is correctly configured and secure then the very best game can be ruined by a single person.

I really enjoyed the Tech Demo of Planeshift and I want to see it flourish as one of the greatest MMORPG\'s so I think its important that forms of hacking the game can be stopped before it is released and it\'s too late. Bugs ofcourse cannot be stopped and sure, people will probabbly take advantage of them when they come across them but hacking can be stopped if its done right.

After all, who wants to have a game reset a year after the full version is released because someone scored 10 milllion hexas illegally? I certainly don\'t and im sure no one else would.

I\'m probabbly wrong and the Planeshift team has taken this into measures but if it hasn\'t just perhaps a \"wish list\" thing I would like to see in it to keep the game fair and fun.

Time of test: today (9/13/02)
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Pentium 4M 1.4 GHZ
RAM: 256 MB DDR
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
Video Card Memory: 32 MB
PS Client Version: 1.004
OpenGL or Safe Mode: OpenGL
Description of the bug:

As I know how frustrating it can be to see hundreds of the same problem in multiple posts, I spent the past 2 days browsing these forums and found many issues regarding OpenGL however none matched the problem I am having.

The game runs fine in safe mode but I would really like to run it in OpenGL. When I click OpenGL it loads the psclient.exe but just has a black screen, I then get an error messaging saying the program is now going to quit (and if I want to send an error report to microsoft or not).

I have tried everything from changing all the settings in the psclient configuration file, video modes, full screen modes, screen widths and heights, sound modes etc, I even edited other text files in the game and tried every possible thing I could think of including the good support from the people at the planeshift IRC server but still to no avail  X(

If anyone has any other suggestions they would be very much appreciated, thankyou.
