What do we have here?

We have two different versions.

One: Iridia speaking on behalf of the GM Team - not necessarily meaning she herself did it or decided it or said it.
So the GM Team states that there have been attempts to contact the RCD management. GM Team also states they have spoken to them and requested a change.

On the other hand we have Damola and cdmoreland saying they have not known anything about this.

Iridia stated in her first Post that the GM Team asked the RCD staff for a plan and that this plan was not provided.
Damola states that *she* has not been informed OOC'ly.

This is quite simple to me. All Damola has to do is to get in contact with the GM Team either on IRC, the Forums or ingame via petition and clear this directly with the team.
There is absolutely no reason for anyone else who is not involved with the RCD Management to point fingers at the GM Team / Devs about how they treat the community. It's always easy to point fingers and blame others, but fact is, we (everyone not directly invovled) don't know what was communicated between whom.

Now to the seizure. I can't say much about the activity of the RCD, cuz I am only back about 2 months now. But fact is, the RCD was given to a certain group to create RP for the community. Or IC'ly it was lent to them by the Octarchy for the benefit of the Citizens of Hydlaa.
If that has not worked out due to the managers not being around enough and only open on special ocassions instead of having open 24/7 so that players could use for RP anytime they want, the Agreements (both IC and OOC) have failed and the Octarchy just takes it back.

It's not like the RCD will be lost. The way I understand it is, that the GMs plan on making that Guild House available to the public for usage, so everyone - including the RCD team - can use it for RP and hosting events.
Iridia also mentioned it's possible for anyone to apply for the OSP and I don't see her mention that the RCD is excluded from applying again.

So if there is an interest by the RCD team to continue the RCD simply make a plan and provide it to the Octarchy. Find people interested in joining the staff of the RCD so it is more active. And if you don't win the OSP again there are other places that can be used for events the OSP team wants to run.

Look at Iridia's signature: Event idea? IRC #ps-event
This channel was formed by a former Settings Developer many years ago for the crystal eclipse event series for everyone from the PS Staff to participate (including settings devs, engine devs, prospects and GMs and others). That the channel is now open for players to join to present their event idea to get support by the GMs is a good sign. Unfortunately I have not yet seen anyone join in there other than GMs.

So, the possibilities to host events are available. Both, with and without GM support. Use the possibilities instead of complaining how badly the community is treated!

In-Game Roleplay Events / A duel at the Plaza

A duel at the Plaza
By an anonymous bystander

Upon leaving the Realm of Dakkru and recovering, both from the Curse as well as from that Ulbernaut attack that brought me to her Realm in the first place, I arrived at the Hydlaa Plaza, just an Ynwn's armslength from Harnquist.

The usual hammering that came from the smith was overtoned by an exchange of words between a male Enkidukai and a male Dwarf. All kind of bad words flew out of the mouth of the Enkidukai, calling the Master Crafter a midged and short legged and other words I don't wish to put into my mouth in respect of my dwarven friends.

The Dwarf on the opposite took it with pride, not letting himself get mad about the foolish Feline. The Dwarf called the Enki by the name of Cebot, other bystandards have called the Dwarf Rheos. Who I might add is from the Way of the Hammer, known for their pride.

Eventually Rheos called for Cebot to back up his big mouth and they agreed to settle it through a duel. Rheos suggested to go to the Arena, but the rude Enkidukai insisted on having the duel at the hill, which
Quote
will remember dwarven blood for sure and must be thirsty
.

Both of them went on to the hillside behind Harns shop. and prepared for the fight. First to land a hit was the Enki, not much surprising, considering his feline agility and the fact he was using daggers. But he couldn't stand a chance against the Sword of the Master Crafter. Defeated and asked to yield the Enki eventually called out that he would never yield to a dwarf and thus was sent back to Dakkru's Realm.

For the piece in Hydlaa I sure hope that Big Mouth won't find his way out of there again.

By the way, rumor has it that Cebot was lost for years in the Labyrinths. Whether it was just an assumption of thuse remembering the name or whether he really has returned from behind the Bronze Doors is uncertain.

Are there maybe other whitnesses who could put up some information as well?

Hi all. This is my first post in quite a while, actually since I have left the PS Staff about 10 months ago.
I read what you all think is wrong in how PS is being developed and how the staff is being blamed for it over and over.
As a former Prospect for the Settings and former GM I know quite a lot of the internal ongings and can say yes, the team is not perfect. It never has been nor will it ever be...why? Because we're humans. We all have different opinions, different personalities and different interests and we all do mistakes at times.

However, the maingoal of the staff is to bring PS forward and to achieve that everyone puts in their part. Be it the engine devs who fix bugs or implement new features, the settings devs who sit night and day and work on ideas on how to bring you all more story line to include into your rp, the testers who help with verifying and fixing bugs or the GMs who keep the peace in the game by moderating issues, or bring you stroies through GM events.
Having been part of planeshift as a player before and as part of the staff I know about both sides. Lets try to look at it.

Simple event to drive away the boredom at the mines: Ulber Raid
A herd of Ulbers makes their way through the passage way and attacks the miners. Killing some, getting slain by wizards and warriors.
It's abut half an hour fun for the players who enjoy fighting, it's about half an hour frustration for those power miners who suffer from the death course, but what about roleplayers? In my time as a GM I often hung out at the mines, before and after we did such a raid. the topic has quickly been put aside again and the silent grind for ores continues.

People, both staff members and players have brought non combat RP to the mines and either players jumped on to get a shiney new GM item or they continued their mining (I am generalizing here, of curse there have also been a few players who got in for the RP)
Also there have been events that built up, over days and weeks. But hardly anyone continued the stories once the GM char disappeared again.

Quests are done to gain rewards and entrance to some locations, some players roleplay it, using the knowledge they gained fro quests for their roleplay, but not many do.

Why people keep blaming the staff for not making this an RP game escapes me, because the staff tries very hard to do so.

Players try to host events too, be it outlaws lurking around and robbing people on the roads or be it story telling in the taverns. be it festivities hosted by groups, or be it market days. Roleplay is there and is created all the time. Is it dying? Maybe, I have not been in PS in a long while and don't know what is going on currently. But if it is dying, then ask yourself for the reason. Ask yourself those questions: Do I participate in GM events to get items or short time fun in combat, or do I participate because the story is appealing to my character and can help me further my own RP story? Am I participating in player events or am I doing my own stuff and don't care what others do?

However, roleplay does not necessarily mean huge events with lots of players in it...roleplay is also happening when just two people meet somewhere and talk, or if a smith emotes his actions, which can be quite some fun too, a young smith hitting his thumb and yelling out in pain...or such things. The important part is, that you do more than stand around and use game mechanics day in and out... and, of course, to stay in character and keep out of character talk to a minimum. It doesn't even matter whether you type a screen long paragraph emote or if you just talk as if you're chatting, both is RP when done IC - sure, detailed emotes where the reader gets a mental picture before his eyes is always better for immersion, but not everyone likes it r is able to.

Now I have moved on to another game and I can say, that eventhough behind the engine, server and client is a HUGE company which charges LOTS of money from people who host a region, there are lots of bugs and lag too. Player created content, combat systems and weapons all player created. Of course there's a lot going on behind the scenes as well, because it's RL money. However, besides all the troubles, which affects EVERY community in EVERY game, there is a lot of RP going on - if that works there, why not here in PS too? Look around, see a player standing somewhere alone? Go over there and play according to how your character would...You'll entertain them with RP and you'll get RP in return and you never know what may come out of a simple "Hello" :-)

Long story short: Don't hang on the forums and look for reasons why RP is dying, instead go in game and create RP

General Discussion / Re: Roleplaying and Intervention of Gamemasters
« on: July 04, 2009, 08:33:02 am »
I think we should not speculate if it was IC or OOC but stick to the facts, which are:

The victim filed a petition about the scam.
The item in question was supposed to raise stats/skills according to the petition, which cannot be checked by rightclicking the item in the trade window.
The GM who dealt with it talked to both persons in a group and they agreed on a solution.

Should we get involved in that?
Opinions may differ on that, but as a matter of fact we have to at least investigate on both sides. If during that investigation a solution can be found all parties agree on, then it's totally fine, isn't it?

Technical Help: IN GAME bugs (after loading world) / Re: Run Bug
« on: June 17, 2009, 01:29:30 am »
I do have this issue too, due to cheap keyboards with blocking keys. The best thing you can do is edit your keyboard settings in PS and put the movement keys to non-blocking keys. For me the numblock works ver well, the only thing that block there is running backwards in either right or left, not sure.

My movement keys are as follows: 8: Forward, 4: Left, 5: Back, 6: right.
The 2nd movement set is still on qweasd - I'm just not used to lefthand movement :P

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Strange Graphics Issue
« on: June 06, 2009, 07:46:11 pm »
please provide the Xorg version and the graphics driver+version you are using.

Some of our devs work on the intel issue as far as I know, so providing them with more info might help them as well as others to help you if there already isa fix for your issue.

Thanks.

Downgraded to nvidia-drivers-180.60 and it still happens that when PS is running that the GPU temp goes up to 105+ degrees celsius. Its insane. I wonder whats causing that Could it be related to hal? (I recently enabled hal for Xorg)
* Vonor does some research.

Linux Specific Issues / Re: Gnome dds preview?
« on: June 02, 2009, 11:42:02 am »
Well, I did on freenode in ##gnome :P

Anyways, thanks to weltall I now know that gimp stores thumbnails in ./.thumbnails from where nautilus also loads them.

Doesn't help much for on-the fly thumbnails, but for now I can live with it :)

Well, installing kuickview requires me to install a lot of kde related dependencies, which am not willing to do for the one thing I need.

I know the gimp dds plugin, but thats not going to give me previews in nautilus either, is it?

I'll look further and if I figure how ubuntu does it I'll give it a shot and post it here. In the meanwhile, if any of you have any idas, please post them too.

Linux Specific Issues / Gnome dds preview?
« on: May 31, 2009, 09:37:14 am »
I used to browse the art files with konqueror regularly and konqueror would open the zips like folders and show a preview of the dds files. Now that I use gnome I'm kinda missing that feature. As I've heard on ubuntu it is possible to preview the dds files, but so far I couldn't figure how ubuntu does it.

Has anyone an idea about what package (or maybe just a useflag on gentoo?) I have to install to get the dds previews?

Gentoo, vanilla-sources-2.6.30-rc7 nvidia-drivers-185.18.14

Normal temp is about 56 degrees celsius. When I start PS the temp goes up drastically, even at the login screen. As am writing this I'm still at the login screen and the temp is currently 94 degrees, still going up.

With older drivers the max temp when playing PS was between 80-90 degs. I managed to get the temp up to 108 degs just before.

Not sure if it is only an nvidia drivers problem, or if it has to do with ps too.

Got an nVidia GeForce 9600M GT

Fan Art / Re: Promotional Poster Contest.
« on: May 27, 2009, 04:47:09 am »
I'd be interested in a promotional poster, the criteria I have for it are as follows:

# Must be black and white (no color printer available for me here)
# Should include infomation for players as well as information for ongoing dev prospects (I'm at an IT college, so am pretty sure we can catch both, players and devs here)
## Info for dev prospects should include departments with a brief description of them and whatever kind of devs are needed (php coders, c++ coders, etc etc)
# Should be DIN A4 format
# If possible information should be in English and in German
# Additionally a foldable brochure could be added with additional information (So I can pin the poster at the message board and put some brochures below it for everyone to take and read)

Thanks in advance.
