Fan Art / Re: Fan Art Request Reply
« on: April 27, 2011, 07:24:46 pm »
Ditch the Enki request, and make more Ynnwn =D

Or Dermorians.

And I would like to see some Lemurs. Nobody likes Lemurs for some reason, they're too busy drawing Enkis. I really don't get why PS loves Enkis so much. Enkis and Klyros are too popular imo. There's like 4 Enki or Klyros-only guilds -_- why, I have no idea.

That's my own personal request: make Lemurs!

Interesting, what image editor do you use?

Perhaps you could do concept work for the team, your progress so far looks like you have a bit of knowledge in this stuff.

The team still develops? Oh wait, I promised I wouldn't complain anymore. Sorry.

Yeah Ether, nice art! I can see you have potential. Nice job with the shading on the Ynnwn cloak, it practically looks like a Blender model. I wish I had Photoshop, but for now I use Painter Essentials 4. I'll probably get Photoshop in a couple months, then the fun will really get started =D

I can't wait to see more, please keep it up.

General Discussion / Re: Guidelines to play an "evil" character
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:57:30 pm »
Evil does not translate well into this game. Part of it is settings, part mechanics, and the other part is the bit that nobody gets.

There should be nothing in any MMORPG that prevents its players from being evil. Nothing at all. The fact that you say there is here is true, but sickening.

General Discussion / Re: Should I Come Back?
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:55:56 pm »
I went to the Mac store and I now have more space. Ah, that magical Genius Bar...

Sorry, I don't think I'm coming back, though. When the game gets the bugs figured out and a bit more content, then maybe. But for now I'm waiting for Drakensang to be released. I'll chill on the forums here every once in a while, but that's it.

I really hate to let this game go. It's got a feel to it that I really can't describe, one that I haven't seen in other games. I guess it's the fact that PS is the first game I've found to add a player's imagination into the mix instead of worrying about classes, skill trees, and all the technical aspects. Oh, and money. That's what makes it truly great.

Damn, I'm going to miss this  :'(

General Discussion / Re: Guild War Rules for PlaneShift.
« on: April 22, 2011, 04:48:42 pm »
My guild (when it existed) got in a particularly nasty guild war with some guild called the Klyros Mercs or something (they were all Klyros, and they referred to themselves as "Mercenaries." I care less about the name, really). What I mean by nasty:
1) Bodies were falling everywhere. Both our guilds had around 30+ members online at one time, and no city, death realm, or respawn point was safe. It took a total of 20 kills to get from the 2nd-to-highest guild rank to the highest rank. It was supposed to be almost impossible, and yet we had 3 people get there, and a few more get close.
2) Insults were flying through the air. A few of the enemy guild members had a thing about making "yo mom" jokes and cussing us out after they died, thinking it was safe to keep them in brackets. I'm ok with RP insults like "YOU SON OF AN ULBER" and "GO TO THE DEATH REALM WHERE YOU BELONG" but when they change to "your moma's sword is longer than mine," then there's a problem.
3) There were no rules, people were actually hacking. It went on for like, a month, and both guilds started to lose members just to leave the guild war because it was so ridiculous. I think we got the Nexus of Devotion to join our side, and then the Mercs got some guild called "Princes of Blood" or something like that to help them.

We won, but it wasn't really fun. Both guilds had lost a ton of their members, and though it was glorious to win, both giving and taking insults and cheap shots at the enemy guild(s). It's a lot more fun if guilds war for RP purposes, and are clean and honorable. I would really prefer them to be bloody scraps where entire guilds are obliterated, but the fact that this is a game makes it all too competitive.

I like your rules. They would make it fun (although I don't like the whole 'if he calls himself a citizen, you can't attack him' rule; any guild that is in a guild war shouldn't have any peaceful civilians involved). The only problem would be making people follow it. I'm sure there's a ton of people out there, even in a game like Planeshift, who really don't care about conduct as long as they win.

Ah, phantom.

First of all, I don't see myself "deviating" from the topic of the Red Way. The argument changed course, and I adapted. You, however, desperately resorted to whipping up what you mentioned in the past in a pathetic attempt to make me look stupid. Nice try, I must admit, but shallow.
Aw, look at you, using dem big words. Literally, big words. Trying to emphasize stuff by making them size 24 font won't get you respect; it will actually give you the opposite.

I understand you want to argue into a little rut from which only troll crap can spill forth, but that doesn't work with everybody. So how about we stop arguing and actually focus on enjoying the PS forums instead of getting into these nerdy rants on each other for a topic that really doesn't matter in the long run.

You just committed a logic fail: you referred to a subject already closed to back up your current argument by saying I was mentioning something unrelated. We were discussing how you basically said that "practical" meant "combat things," and then I tried to make the perfectly logical and also fact-based point that their nature is peaceful, and they refuse to wear heavy armor (this has no relation to their physical nature; I'm sure Klyros could carry heavy armor on their shoulders just as good as a Dermorian). Then you turned it around and tried to make it seem like we were still talking about the Klyros using the Red Way, and said that the fact that they wear heavy armor doesn't have anything to do with the subject at hand.  :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic: :offtopic:

I will take in account when you said "you do realize nothing 'lives' in fire, right?" I think it's clear that I know that: I said clearly that "RW was mainly combat." I'm not sure, maybe I need to get a better education in what combat is, but I'm pretty sure it involves killing.

DOHUR!

Do you see where you made your mistake? If you want, I can send you a long, detailed PM....

PvP,PK and Thieving / Re: My last complaint
« on: April 17, 2011, 10:39:17 am »
It's a good post about nothing new. Most of that stuff has been wished already and it has been either promised or refused:

Making everything Skill based: Lag would make it unfair. That's the excuse we've been hearing. Currently it also takes some skill to come in and out of combat, even though stats are the most important thing. Also, our developers live under the wrong impression that it's easy to level in PS.

About Stealing, Sneaking, etc... There are skills for that, you're complaining about something that has been chosen not to be implemented yet.

The little story you said about Levrus is as ridiculous as most current quests, since it'd be 100% autistic: no characters could admit to have done it, since half of Yliakum's population would find out they had all killed Levrus and Jayose and tricked the government. Grappling hooks and arabian nights stories have their place in Single Player RPGs, where you're meant to own the whole world. In MMORPG awesomeness must be shared equally by a greater population, or all you have is a city of killing, cooking, mining, smithing ninjas.

Lag would make it just as unfair as in any other game.

There's skills for it, yes, but they have no purpose or trainers, except for "hide in the shadows," which has a trainer for some reason but still has no purpose.

And the story of Levrus was an example, idiot. I'm just throwing out some ideas wrapped inside a story I made up on the spot. If you think I was suggesting a quest or something, then you're wrong. And no, grappling hooks can be in an MMORPG, too. And in case you haven't noticed, PS is a city of killing, cooking, mining, smithing ninjas, where everyone CAN'T own the whole world.

PvP,PK and Thieving / My last complaint
« on: April 16, 2011, 06:32:51 pm »
People are starting to hate me for my references to before 0.5 came out. "Jeez, Avathius. Stop complaining about how the game wasn't nearly as laggy, contained half the bugs, and we all actually looked forward to the next update instead of shaking our heads and wondering 'what new fails will we face this time?'"

So, by popular request (just kidding) I have decided that this will be my last complaint post against Planeshift. I want to say I'm sorry for raging against you guys. I am currently working with a game in development, and I realize how hard it is. I do, however, think that this project needs to start over. Yes, start over. The world, races, and graphics are good, but I find the gameplay to be what is lacking. Start over with the gameplay. The "stances" idea is cool and unique, but it doesn't matter if the game's combat only relies on what stats you have. Yes, stats should matter a bit. But when the stats are raised really high, and it's very hard to max them, people get frustrated. Yes, this isn't easy, like WoW. But that's exactly what I mean! In WoW, the learning curve is remarkably easy. It's so simple to learn how to play WoW. With Planeshift, it's hard. And I'm not saying that's a bad thing. If you make it difficult to learn, then the players who have been playing a while will have an advantage over the new players. Thus, skill-based gameplay would be a good thing. The same goes for your game. Once again, stats should matter. But skill should matter more.

That's it with PvP: it's more fun if everything revolves around the skill of a player. Running, jumping around, changing to defensive and aggressive, casting spells at the same time. That's fun. What's not fun is when you max your stats and somebody is able to kill you easily simply because their axe level cap is higher than your sword level cap. You get what I'm saying?

Now thieving. I would really like to see crime in this game. My "j" key lets me sneak: how about you guys put that to good use? I would like it where, if my factions make me in bad relations with Hydlaa, I would have to GRAPPLE-HOOK my way up the wall, SNEAK past guards, and LEAP across rooftops to meet with a rival guild leader and discuss peace terms (actually, been there, done that... but I did the roof-jumping just for roleplay purposes, and for fun, not because I had to to avoid being pwned by the guards). I want to SNEAK past Dark Rogues to access some secret hidden chest wherein lies a dagger which I need to use in order to ASSASSINATE Levrus, so he goes to the Death Realm for a short time which allows my fellow gang members to SNEAK into Hydlaa while the guards are preoccupied with investigating his murder so that they can INVADE Jayose's library, give him an ALL-EXPENSE-PAID trip to the DR, too, and STEAL some of his books, which they then use to BRIBE the Hydlaa government in order that they will release a fellow gang member from custody. Then, UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS we will STEAL AWAY under the COVER OF NIGHT in order to get back to our SECRET BASE while AVOIDING the WATCHFUL EYES of the Hydlaa guards who discovered our hideout SO THAT WE CAN ASSASSINATE THEM, TOO, SO THAT WE HAVE A FEW LESS OF THOSE PESKY GUARDS TO DEAL WITH.

Does that say it clearly enough?

Wish list / Re: Decreasing The Importance of Fighting
« on: April 16, 2011, 06:10:43 pm »
I agree with this. PS's gameplay is already a long, boring grind with terrible quests, no boss fights, and unfinished character models which makes nobody want to play those races. The roleplay is all it has, and the roleplay is good. Fighting needs to be easy to get good at. It's already pretty skill-based, just take out the grinding and PS would be a lot more worth playing. See, the fact that combat is like that makes it hard to roleplay, too. Before the stats were raised, my character description was a lot like:

"At a first glance, Kaibane, judging by his pale complexion, skinny build, and black hair, not normal for a Dermorian, you think he could be a strong wielder of dark magic. By the black blade hanging from his waist and the dagger handle peeking out of his boot, you judge that he could be a sizeable threat in combat, too."

Now, I have to change it, because I am no longer awesome like that and now am 50% weaker than I once was [yay, stats raised, way to suddenly make hours of my time spent playing PS meaningless]. So I can't roleplay worth crap anymore, because when people see a character description like that, but under it:

"You estimate that Kaibane will take no effort to defeat."

They think I'm some PS noob who wants to be all cool and awesome instead of roleplay well, and then they decide to tell me so through various offensive PMs.

And yes, that does happen. I won't point anyone out, but it still makes me mad. I really liked PS a lot more when all that mattered was getting winch access, roleplay, and maxing stats [when it was actually fun to max stats, and not a grind]. Oh yeah, and I liked it when we had a Gugrontid mining spot, too, so I could find some way to make money besides repairing weapons, because *oh yeah* I can't repair anyone's weapons anymore because the stat requirements for that got raised, too.

The Hydlaa Plaza / Re: Suicide Game
« on: April 16, 2011, 05:57:53 pm »
Avathius picks up the peanut. Suddenly he realizes that it is actually his annoying grandmother [in disguise!] who has come from RL to haunt him in his adventures in Planeshift! In fright, he runs out onto the plains near Gugrontid, screaming in terror, before he is skewered up the *** by an Ulbernaut and dies.

Avathius dropped a bag of dung (and yes, that is an item in-game. Have fun.)

"A few years ago, but still before you were born, my boy, we had somethin' strange happen in the Kada-El tavern. Most of the guild won't talk about it, but I think it's about time you know.

Me and Hom Sawers were standin' at the bar with the rest o' the crew, tellin' stories and exchangin' laughs with each 'otha. It was a normal day, as normal as most days in Hydlaa. Young boys were searchin' for drop bears under the trees near Harnquist's forge, the guards were makin' their daily rounds. Even that strange Diaboli fella was walkin' aimlessly around, pointin' at people like some cleric of Talad sayin' "repent!", tellin' people that they weren't 'The One.' Strange fella, prob'ly spent too much time with those serpent gobbles. Thems boys gobbles mess with your head like none under the crystal."

Grandfather Laras laughed, obviously in remembrance of his time spent with the strange gobble-folk near the rivers of Yliakum.

"Well, in otha' words, the day was pretty darned normal. I remember it like it was yesterday:

So thar's we were, sittin' at the bar"

–––"I thought you were standing, grandfather!"

"Ah, aren't you a smart 'un. Yeah, we was standin'. Maybe I don' remember it as much as I thought!" Grandfather chuckled again, then continued. "So we was sittin'"

–––"Standing!"

"... at the bar, orderin' our drinks. I don't know about that new barmaid there, she seems a bit shifty, but back in the day we had a mean old Kran named Momma Kozo. And by Talad, she served the best brandy in the top layer!

But now I'm a'gettin' off topic. So there's we was, standin' at the bar, orderin' them brandy we was so darned fond of, when suddenly, a wind–a strong wind, unlike anythin' we had eva seen before–blew through the tavern and shook us to our very bones! 'Sept for Momma Kozo, she din't have bones!"

–––"Why didn't Momma Kozo have any bones grandfather?"

"Boy, what's gotten into you? You so darn dumb that you don't know what Kran is made out of?" Grandfather Laras slapped the young lad in the back of the head. "Now pay attention, the story's just about pickin' up...

Now, this wind harkn'ed a storm, and a storm it was! We darned found ourselves takin' shelter inside the Kada-El while the crystal poured down water and lightnin.' And with that storm, a little small man came in."

Now, this little small man was a tiny fella, wrapped in a big ol' cloak that looked like it could fit a 'ulbernut on his figure. Acturely, I still ain't sure he was a man. Nobody really knows who he is, he just blew in the doorway with his little head all hidden in that big ol' cloak. So this small little man stepped up to the bar, all yonder eyes watchin' his ev'ry move as he stepped across the room. He stood up at the bar and ordered one of the very brandy we was drinkin.' After he got his booze, he sat down at a table, eyes scannin' the room like some darned rogue. After an awkward silence that wus only prolonged by the noises of that storm a'outside, some brave Ynnwn decided to a'ask this stranger a question."

Grandfather's eyes darkened.

The Ynnwn asked: 'Now, a'where did ya come from, sir?' And ya know what the little small man said? He just said that he come from Yliakum. Well, duh! Who don't come from Yliakum? After implorin' a bit further, the Ynnwn finally got an answer from the little small man. He asked what layer the little small man a'came from, and you know what the little small man said?"

–––"What did he say, grandfather?"

"The darned soul said he din't come from no layers. He said he come from places where water don't drip, where people don't sleep. I remember his words like it was yesterday. Those was his exact words, and theys shook me to the bone! But not Momma Kozo, o'course. She din't have bones.

And then you know what the little small man did then? He stood up, all his height. Darn, he looked like a dwarf! His little head was still cover'd by that little cloak, so as you could only see his eyes peekin' out from between the covers. And when he stood up on the top of that table, he said these words:

'Gather 'round, all ye peoples of Yliakum! Fer I come to entertain ye!' We all a'cautiously as klyros came 'round the table he was a'standin' on, wondrin' what he means. The little small man continued:
'Ye is about to see what nobody has seen on this side of the world before! Ye gonna see thins that might shake ye, things that might make ye fear, things that might make ye scream.'
A deadthly hush went over the crowd as the little small man plucked out a small, red ribbon from insides his cloak. And ya know what he did with this ribbon? He a'took it, and a'snapped it in 'is hands, and there was two ribbons! Howeva, the crowd was unimpressed. The little small man was as undaunted as an arangma lookin' down the gullet of a consumer. More borin' tricks occurred, an' people started ta leave, but me and an around twenty-so othas still stayed. We knowed the little small man was obviously an amature, he din't know how to work magics. But we sat on, findin' this a bit humerus. The little small man then went an' pulled a small yulber out ah' his cloak. We all a' gasped in astownisment: it can't have had a'been thar before! But it was, and it wiggled an' squirmed on the ground like some crazy man from a gobble town. I tell you, boy, thems boys gobbles mess with your head like none under the crystal."
"Now ah' what he did with this little yulber was somethin' truly amazin!' For lo an' behold, he grabbed the yulber below the jaw an' pulled its skin clean off! But when the ah' skin came off, so did the yulber, meanin' the yulber disappeared, poor thin'! It plain out disappeared into thin-air! It was the most darned amazin' thin' we had eva seen. Hearing our ex'laimations of awe, people started a'comin' back. But you know what the little small man did then?"

–––"What did he do, grandfather?"

Quiet up an' let me tell the story. The little small man said these same words: 'Now, I'm a-going to perform the greatest trick yet, the greatest trick of all.' He pulled out a little pouch from inside that mysterious cloak of 'is..."

Suddenly, grandfather's eyes darkened. He continued at a slow, monotonous pace.

"The little small man told us he was goin' to.... he was goin' to.... souls...., just like that. We was all mezmerized... so mezmerized. I don' very much remember much afta that, though, not much afta that. Neitha did anybody else. All I rememba is that after he did what he did, the little man snapped his fingas and disappeared, just like that." Grandfather's eyes wandered.
"... just like that. Just... like..."

–––"Grandfather?"

Grandfather's eyes were blank and expressionless. His mouth hung ajar, and no words came out. I stared on at his face.

–––"Grandfather!"

In the back of my mind, I swore I could hear someone laughing. "Just like that!" It said, cackling, "Just like that, just like that, just like that, just like that, just like that, just like that..."

–––"Make it stop!" I screamed, clutching my ears so hard my knuckles turned white and my fingernails dug ruts in my skull, drawing blood that poured down my face. And still, the menacing cackle continued. I still hear that cackle to this day. It haunts my dreams and memories. And since then, I will hunt him. The one who takes souls. I would avenge what happened to my clan that fateful night. My name is Azeragh, and this is my story.

It says earth, wind, water. Not ALL the elements. It also says that they use them for "constructive" means, which I take means more for things like enchanting and crafting, not combat. And from what I recall when I played Planeshift, RW was mainly combat.

And btw, just added my newest and in my opinion my best creation.... take a look at the gallery again.

I would recommend 1) blending more, like that other guy said. Your art would looks awesome with blending. 2) Buy Corel Painter Essentials 4 or Photoshop. For your sketchy style, I would recommend Corel. Look at my thread "Kaibane's Gallery" in Fan Art for some stuff made in Corel.
