Mordaan Says: I've been dealing with some RL stuff so haven't dealt with PS in a few weeks. But last I saw, Talad was still working on UE stuff, particularly on the char creation and entry into the game.
Mordaan Says: As for rules and settings, work is being done on the next combat academy. Doesn't look like it will be ready in time for a holiday release. But hopefully sometime in January.
Gonger says: That is the Axe Academy?
Mordaan Says: Some of the quests are already added and proofed, next will be testing. Some others are being finalized by Zunna.
Mordaan Says: I think it is for mace/hammer.

Relef says: i'm doing ingame research on enchantments, but i noticed armor enchantments dont give any info about their effects
Relef says: Is there a way for me to get actual numbers about what it does in some way
Uadjet Says: Which enchantments? Player-made enchantments, you mean?
Relef says: player made yes
Uadjet Says: Player-made enchanted armor grants bonuses to resist various Ways. At least last I checked that was the case. The Ways that are resisted aren't listed in the descriptions, although I think some players have tested them out and compiled lists.
Mordaan Says: I can pass it along to eonwind to see what's intended and what's possible.
Relef says: well, i wanted to test them out, but it'll never be as good as the actual numbers

Uadjet Says: I think you can test them using two characters. One wears an item or holds a gem, and the other casts a direct damage spell. Compare how much damage is done to what is done without the item and you'll know the percentage of resistance.

Uadjet Says: Harder with Blue Way, but patterns will emerge that will make it easy to figure out.
Relef says: well, just look at the total dmg dealt by freeze

Relef says: some days ago, elader gorub and i fought nefas, in a journal there we found a glyph combination for a spell, but we tried all related combinations and found no spell

Uadjet Says: I was renaming food for yesterday's event and decided to change the base item. That left a stack of food items unusable and taking up room in my inventory.
Relef says: i did all settings to max sound
Uadjet Says: Have you checked the settings in the launcher?

Mordaan Says: there might be one more fix in the config file.
Relef says: there's just 1 tick for sound, that's on, and another thing

Gonger says: I have the Renderer set to OpenAL, because otherwise I also had sound problems.

Uadjet Says: And yes, I googled it and copied that.
Harither says: i think i found a bug i make chain cloth with a book (i think it was the platemail book or chainmail) but its not in it.
Gag says: I wonder why the OpenAL option is not the default. Are there any systems where Software rendering is preferrable?

Relef says: cause i am able to make anything without problems from chain mail book
Mordaan Says: I know there's some crossover with that one helms book.

Harither says: its chainmail cloth for the helmet but it was definately not the helm book.
Uadjet Says: In Helms of Darmeth are the instructions for making Large Mail Cloth
Uadjet Says: I'll test that out. The cloth only appears in the helm book and is only useful when making helms, so not sure why other books would enable that transformation. Could just be a simple bug.

Mordaan Says: crafting can be complicated...with the heirarchy of tranformations and combinations.
Relef says: sometimes the server shuts down and after a few minutes we can join again
Relef says: i lost already 20 chain mail strips and 10 molten steel with that

Mordaan Says: yes, that can happen. Server crashes are a wild card.
Relef says: hmm ok, i think I only lose the items i am moving at that moment
Kaerli says: yeah, the PS server doesn't exactly have rock-solid transaction handling :P

The reminder is that there are many different ways to help the game WITHOUT being a programmer. Help with story-telling, RP properly instead of being incommunicado while crafting. Welcome newbies. Present ideas. Plan events. Be active!

Talad Says: to have our NPCs spawn in hydlaa
Talad Says: the main topic is how to do so
Talad Says: we have two ways
Talad Says: 1) use most of the existing PS code, which means the server has all NPCs in the database and sends those to the client
Talad Says: in this method, we read the database, we see which NPCs have to be loaded, like race, position on the map, stats, ... and we load a new NPC, which is then send to all clients
Talad Says: 2) just drop our NPC in the map visually from the Unreal Engine editor in hydlaa plaza map. This was not possible in current PS.
Talad Says: This way the NPC is just part of the map permanently
Talad Says: there are different advatanges in the two approaches
Migg says: What about GMs taking the NPC over? They sometimes move them to another map
Talad Says: with method 1 we have more control on loading/unloading of certain NPCs
Talad Says: with method 2 we save some code, and we are more "UE-compatible"
Talad Says: there is a function to impersonate an NPC I think as default inthe engine
Talad Says: so should be no problem

Damola says: I have seen something very nice in another game: When you creep there your char gets a partial yellow circle around it and when it is complete the NPC is about to notice the char, this is indicated by a red circle… of course, I wonder how could a char know whether a NPC would detect the char on the other hand

Damola says: It would be kind if some players could test the https with their web clients, once we are confident that it works okayish, a permanent redirect from http to https makes sense

Sorry guys, I was sick and missed the meeting before this one, (Feb 11th) and the one before that one I think I totally spaced that one (Jan 28th) so I don't  have logs for those. But I did find logs for Jan 14th and Dec 10tth I'll post those even though it's a bit late. Slacker. I'm fired.

Mairon says: I have a question regarding appearances. Not that long ago I found a mod called GreatShift that can change it client-side. What I liked the most were DIFFERENT WAY ROBE COLORS (right, with caps-lock). I really would like to see them in PS server-wise.

Mishka says: If a robe has a texture named robe_klyros.dds, and you have a robe_klyros_red.dds file, but the other players don't, only you will be able to see the texture.

Sarras says: i think the issue is that there being different races means that every different way robe means too many models to put into the game. it would be better to wait until UE and use shaders to change a color map (texture).

Mishka says: Hi. I don't want to be controversial but I've seen players get rewards before. Groups like the Skunkworks team that created the leather armor crafting book and quests, players that independently contributed to in game literature, freelance developers that let the game use the assets they made, players submitting events... Would it be possible to acknowledge them, not necessarily writing them down in the credits, but perhaps commending their efforts in game?
Mishka says: People would see them getting cool things for contributing, and perhaps that would make them consider contributing, too, to the best of their abbilities.
Talad Says: adding a in game contributors list in the credits could be ok to me
Mishka says: I think people would rather get cool, unique stuff in game, stuff they can show off even.

Uadjet Says: I agree with Gonger about in-game rewards not really being appropriate. At least not powerful equipment or tools. Maybe a contributor trophy or something? Nothing that gives an advantage, but kept for pride.

Mishka says: Well, yes PLers would have an edge I guess.
Emaline Says: We would spend a lot of time checking peoples stats and making those up for each person for each skill.

Uadjet Says: I'm thinking a maxed skill is its own reward, but an achievement...I dunno. That might encourage grinding rather than interacting with other players.
Mishka says: There are quests that check your skill level already. So check your skill level, and offer 2-3 items based on the skill you maxed out.

Emaline Says: I think the problem mainly arises when people stand up on the walls in the arena casting at things they would in no way be able to normally kill. Gaining something (skill and PP) for no risk.

Mairon says: Like, if he is a strict Xiosia follower, he probably wouldn`t use that oppotrunity.

Emaline Says: You are not training anything up on the wall where nothing can hit you and the mobs run around and get stuck in walls trying to find a path to you.
Mishka says: So being on top of a rock in the wilderness is fair game, but being on top of the Arena walls isn't?
Migg says: Yes, am I OK climbing that rock?
Damola suggests "Maybe place mobs with wide range attacks in Arena."
Uadjet Says: Most of the time using limits in pathing or geometry wouldn't work IRL. A critter might climb, or if that's impossible it would run.
Migg says: A wolf would stay beneath the tree, unless wounded too much to want to fight
Mishka says: Well, why not make an IC set of rules for the Arena? Maybe written by Gregori. That way players can be punished according a ruleset.

Uadjet Says: We had someone recently that was using geometry and pathing limitations to kill mobs safely, when really the critter should have been able to take a single step up and smashed him into a pulp.

Mairon says: Usually people kill creatures in the Arena pits not for PPs, but for loot.
Migg says: Perhaps shooting from the walls could trigger an automatic script?

Zakena says: 2) Bards buffs. It would be nice to make special magical instruments that gives the power to buff mental power of other players (like mana and mana stamina)

Sarras says: I have a question about OOC names. It seems that IC names are no longer enforced like they used to be. A while back, years ago now, I made a ridiculous guildname even though the guild was set to private. GMs still found out and forced me to change it.
Sarras says: And yet we allow guilds like Captainsriffcrew to maintain their names, even though similarly named players would get a name change, and I had a similar one a while ago and it was changed.
Uadjet says: Rules for player names and rules for guild names differ.

Uadjet says: Phrases are allowed for guild names, and nowhere in the rules does it require proper punctuation or syntax.
Sarras says: So we are to assume that the leader of Captainsriffcrew doesn't know how to spell?
Uadjet says: My initial feeling was that the name was a violation, but before I do anything punitive I always check the rules so that I'm sure I'm right and can quote the rule in question.

General Discussion / Help wanted!

So the hospital was robbed and a lot of items and books were taken that were donated over time and written by players. The food and potions, albeit low to rob from a charity hospital, can be easily replaced.

What can not be easily replaced are the books and signs made by players. Luckily a few of them had been saved by other players and we were able to restore those and lock them down, though there are still some books and signs that are missing.

If you have any of the items listed below because you donated them once or had a copy for whatever reason and are able to donate them, please let us know so we can restore them and have them locked down. Thanks!

The following books and maps are still missing:

  • Do Not Drink Spirits! (map, player made sign)
  • Chopper Man (book, collaboratively written by players)
  • Klyros - The Comming (book, player written)
  • The Three Laws of Herbalism (book, player written)
  • On the Hazards of Potion Mixing (book, GM event prop)
  • The End of Martin the Ugly (book, player written)
  • Martin The Masked's First Step (book, player written)

If you want to donate any items to the hospital to help with their loss I suggest contacting any member of the healers’ council.

Anysu, Sacho, and Fesara are a few members that I can think of off the top of my head that are active and would take the donations and see to it that we got them locked down. Ravynne has been supplying food to the hospital and is also active, so contacting her about donations to the hospital is an option as well.
