Wish list / Re: Stronger monsters?

My suggestion is significantly different to yours Catlemur. You envisage a variance between individuals in groups of mobs. Viable and interesting. I am suggesting the possibility for a single mob of great power to spawn in the gameworld, only one could be in existence at any time. One Legendary Mob, not a variety of Legendary types. Also there is only a chance for one to spawn. There could be days, weeks, months, between spawns.....providing the first has been defeated.

Something I've been thinking about that could fit with this. Basically the introduction of Legendary Mobs.

At any time there could be a chance for a Legendary to spawn anywhere in the game world. Only one Legendary could be in existence at any time.Legendary would use a model chosen from those already ingame, ie Player character, npc, or creature. Legendary would have a random generated unique name and have sufficient ability and stat level to be seriously difficult for a group of high stat/ability characters to overcome.

Legendary could have a patrol path likely to bring it into contact with other mobs, npc's and players.

I would suggest behaviour to be either aggressive or passive, determined on creation.

Aggressive would attack anything it encountered whether they be player ,npc, or mob. [They could have the ability to kill quest npc's for instance encouraging people to group and deal with it].

Passive would defend itself, otherwise wander the landscape. [Offers multiple rp opportunities. Would one group be in favour of protecting this being while another wants to get rid of it?]

Unsure about loot, PP, rewards in general. Perhaps dealing with the threat alone would be sufficient.

Yes, Aramara explained it much better than I did.

General Discussion / Magic Suggestions.

Spell usage and implementation has improved incredibly in recent times, there are a couple of areas they may possibly be improved further.

1. Auto self cast. If it is not possible to cast a spell on the target then attempt to cast on self [not for damage type spells but heal, buff etc]. For example presently this works for Water Barrier and Defensive Wind, but not for Rock Armour.

2. Defensive buffs directly relate to Way skill level. At present the strength of "Armour" buffs seems to relate to armour worn+armour condition+armour type skill level. Should a defensive effect cast by a character, such as Water Barrier, with 150 BW be as effective as 150 HA with new armour? I would like to think so. The essence of a skill based system is about viable freedom of choice, with this approach a magic oriented character becomes possible without investing time, and possibly uncharacteristic energy, into  "physical" skills.

So what do you think? Maybe this is already planned as part of the new combat system, I could be "mad as a fish" and this would tear apart the fabric of our reality?

It certainly does, go inside the Laanx Temple in Hydlaa and look at the walls.

Genius, many thanks. Could be a likely candidate. How do you think Zacate compares?

Thanks Weltall. Any known problems with the Intel graphics that ship with the Ion?

That's why I'm thinking about a Mini. If the integrated cpu/motherboard combo isn't powerful enough for the job maybe one of the new desktop Llano cpu's + micro atx motherboard and cheap 30 gb SSD. Would fit in a case the size of a paperback book. Take keyboard and mouse with me, if staying with friends or relatives steal one of their monitors. Hotels use the TV.

Is anyone playing PS on a Netbook or Mini PC? I am thinking about either making a Mini or buying a Netbook for the times I am away from home. If you have had any success in this area, not worried about great graphics or framerates, please list model and/or spec of machine used.

Thank you.

I know of two instruments that currently seem to be part of the Planeshift world. Pan Flute, a quest reward, strangely the quest giver has not spoken to any of my characters old or new in years. The Serpent, look at the snake like design on the walls inside Laanx Temple. Look closer and you can see the mouthpiece, bell, and finger holes.
Would like to see single and multi drone bagpipes available in time, a version of our Wine Glass Harp or Harmonica [produces amazing sound from a collection of wineglasses filled with water to a varying degree. Played by lightly rubbing fingertips around the glass rims], Tubular Bells, a Planeshift version of instruments used in Gamelan ensembles.

Just a thought, make sure that in Planeshift Launcher/Settings you have Elves enabled under Current Skin. Having no skin selected will crash the application.

I could well be completely wrong here but it seems that the defensive spells effectiveness is related to armour worn. If this is working as intended it is a little disappointing, I had always hoped that when implemented they would buff an unarmoured state. This makes a mage character viable without having to invest in HA training, focussing instead on improving their Ways of choice.

Granted or negated Wishes / Freestyle/Live Player Music in PS
« on: July 13, 2011, 05:57:55 am »
A great deal of new work on Sound is presently being done as part of GSoC 2011. Thank you Lucobro.

http://planeshift.ezpcusa.com/pswiki/index.php?title=Sound_System

Part of the present and future project involves player generated music in PS under the Musical Instrument skill. The ability to compose, then perform, music within a virtual world is technically daunting but I would hope for many incredibly exciting.

I would like to have the opportunity to "Freestyle", play live, as part of this system. This could involve using the pc keyboard to trigger notes in real time. As a lot of keys are "bound" to gui windows, movement, and shortcuts, using a "Play Music Stance" could be used to switch from normal mode to one where keys trigger the appropriate notes instead.

It might even be possible to use an external program to convert midi music keyboard output into a form usable by the Planeshift Sound Manager.

This would enable the talented musicians, with the right set up, amongst us to both entertain and amaze.

"Freestyle" could add more depth to the world, especially in RP. A character telling a tale in a crowded inn, casually plucks the strings of their harp. We hear the notes. Someone working on their Music Instrument skill playing scales, not to skill up but it's just what you do. A group of musicians warming up before a theatrical performance as the audience settles into place.

Sync could cause problems for groups trying to play together, latency etc. It could be possible for a player to have one character playing a music composition, while his/her other improvises around it. Both events being triggered from the same geographical location/isp might minimise sync issues.

[ Quick thought on Music Stance/Mode. Even if playing Freestyle would probably mean the character being stationary it would be wonderful to be able to move and play pre recorded compositions. Imagine a Guild Parade, at their head a piper playing a stirring March].

Thankyou.
