Four Men, Four Deaths

The Death of Duraza Darkom

Vormorto pulled the dark crystal shard off his staff, throwing the staff down while holding the dark crystal in his hands "Its time..." He started to laugh darkly, his voice loud and maddening, his eyes tensing as shouts spilled from his mouth.

"Take me darkness. Give me the strength and knowledge only you have. I no longer wish to continue this pitiful mortal existence. Dark Crystal please, grant me strength, give me the powers of the eternal darkness! Yes darkness. Take me, give me the powers of truth. So commands I Duraza Darkom, The Hand of Darkness! I offer to you my body and soul! Take it and grant me your power! Darkness! Take me! I care not for my own life. Allow me to complete my mission, to serve my goal. To become the very Hand of Darkness!"

Quickly his body started to burn, dark flames consuming him, his words combined in a cacophony of screams and laughter, "I give you everything!" Flesh and bone disappeared, leaving only those cruel black flames.

Then suddenly, something odd started to happen. The death realm became clouded by fog, the darkness around them disappearing. As if by the will of the gods rain fell down over the Dark Citadel. Water covered the area, as if the forces of nature were siding against Duraza, trying to will his defeat through. Falling to his knees, the flames starting to extinguish, "What's happening...who dares...!"

Farren and Silavur acted quickly, both taking the chance to finish him, once and for all. Their attacks forced themselves through him, leaving him hollow and weak, until finally fading forever.

The Death of Morvex Lumnous

Morvex turned to face Thidin, smirking as he held out his hand, "Allow me to show you the true extent of the power I now understand, the power that haunts the Darkom line." As he closed his eyes Thidin watched on, bright white energy surrounding Morvex's body. His skin gained a strange shine, hair fading from red to white, even the smile on his face seeming unnaturally bright.

"This is it, this is the ascending power granted from the White Core. What I am, and what Duraza was before death....Somehow enhanced. Somehow stronger."

Thidin's eyes widened at the ynnwn's strange changes, nodding slightly, "So then what do you plan to do with it? Tell Xeonart?"

To this Morvex let out a sigh, picking a flower from the ground, his touch adding luminescent energy to it, painting the petals white. "I plan to die. This Thidin, was simply the final test of my research, what I promised Duraza I'd discover. Unfortunately like him the lure to power was too great for me to resist. The Core will kill me soon. Actually I most likely only have a few minutes of life left."

Frozen in shock Thidin did not speak, simply staring at Morvex as he walked closer, handing her a small leather-bound book. "Keep this safe and out of Xeonart's hands. If he learns how to command the core better than I it could be disastrous. Hopefully he will just activate it one day and then pass away." Without waiting for Thidin to reply Morvex turned and started to walk away, his body dispersing into the air in little pieces of light with every step he took, "Goodbye forever."

The Death of Xeonart Darkom

Again and again he slammed his fists into the wall, punching over and over, broken eyes staring at his bloodied arms. Sweat dripping down the side of his head he fell to his knees, weeping, crying at the futility of it all. "Why me?" Xeonart mourned. "Why?"

"You are just a tool Xeonart, like your father before you. The difference is you'll never die with the glory that he did. It's too late for that and we couldn't lose another," said a ynnwn, wrapped in black robes, hood falling just over his horns.

"So you knew," Xeonart yelled, allowing his head to hit the stone floor, blood pouring from its crash. "You took away my power when you gave me life again! I thought that I could go on without the Core but it was my power...You didn't save me from decay, you only robbed me of any glory I could ever have!"

To this the ynnwn drew his blade, metal sounding as it came out its sheath. Xeonart turned but before he could react the blade ran through his chest, cold steel covered in warm blood. The ynnwn lowered his head to be level with Xeonart's, whispering in his ear, "Don't worry, your Core was the first that we were able to collect while so close to sprouting. Duraza and Morvex unlocked its power to quick for us to gather them before death. You served us better than they ever did Xeonart. Find peace in that fact and say goodbye forever."

As the steel slid out Xeonart fell into a pool of fresh, warm blood. He stared up blankly, managing to mutter before dying, "So....The years of enslaving....just to find out I was a slave."

The Death of Saggi Lezeheso

Running through the forest, sun shining, skies bright. Smelling the flowers, bare feet swiftly moving through the grass. He was nothing but a child.

Chasing after the birds that fly, arms opened wide, eyes bright with innocence, filled with nothing but the simple bliss of one who believes the world is good and he who lives in it is blessed, he ran toward his small cottage. He was nothing but a child.

The smells of freshly baked bread and simmering stew, mixing with the strong scent of burning wood and fire. These were the smells the boy knew and he knew them well. They smelled of home, his house in the woods, shelter for rest, sanctuary from the dark of the night that quickly approached. Feet moving a little faster now as the crystal's bright rays started to fade. With a bright smile this young ynnwn approached an opening in the forest, eager to find himself with family again. He was nothing but a child.

Stopping at the forest's edge he took one last glance at it, at the crispness of the tress, the beauty of the flowers, the harmony of life, of nature. Eyes fixed for a few moments on the ever darkening sky the ynnwn boy finally gave the forest a wave, his evening ritual, before turning away and heading into the clearing.

As he approached it came clearer to him, his small, humble home. Old wooden steps lead up to a small brick house, windows in front closed with brown wooden shutters. A modest roof covered the house, made from the same strong wood of the forest and the stairs, and a slightly tilted chimney raised above it, letting out puffs of smoke. Off to the side were the usual piles of wood that his father cut for the week, sitting neatly in a pile. The small axe was missing but it was normal for his father to take it to town to get sharpened.

Further in the boy went, scents of home getting stronger and stronger. With a big grin he rubbed his stomach, "Mama's cooking is gonna be good tonight!" Moving towards the stairs, ready to take a step up, an unfamiliar smell came across the boy's nose, a strange, pungent iron smell, mixing in with the others. He paused for a moment, raising a brow but then shrugged, another smile on his face, "Guess daddy got home from the city early with that axe of his." It was when he touched the doorknob that he heard his mother's sharp scream. He was nothing but a child.

Fumbling at the knob, hands now shaky with fear Saggi failed at getting in, hearing the screams again and again, "Mama! Mama what's wrong," he called out into the darkness before finally getting inside, door swinging open as he ran inside, slipping on the wet floor and hitting the ground. He looked to the side and saw his mother weeping, making loud sobs as she pressed her face into the crumpled body of another ynnwn, raising a brow as his voice choked out his words, "Mama...?"

Looking up from the body, his mother's eyes widened, struck with fear while staring on at her son, "Saggi, my son. Please, run. Go, go now!"

"But mama why wha-," Saggi started to say before in a flash he saw it all. Cruel was that axe, cleaving through the air and landing in his mother's neck, lodged a fourth of the way in before being pulled out, taking a chunk of flesh with it. Again and again the axe hacked away at Saggi's mother, slowly but surely until finally her head fell off, the flesh that once kept it in place severed. Saggi watched the whole scene horrified, unable to speak, to think, seeing his mother's life ripped away from her. From the darkness approached the axe and with it the body connected, a demorian dressed in black and red garb, sinister smile on his face. As Saggi stared the man smirked, and tossed something in Saggi's lap. It was the head of the ynnwn laying in the corner, the head of his father. Saggi was nothing but a child.

Jumping to his feet, tears streaming down his face Saggi struggled to run away, continually slipping again and again on the liquid on the ground. At last he finally looked down to see it, to smell it again just as he had outside, that same smell of iron. It was blood that he continually fell in, the blood of his parents that soaked him, that kept him in place, not allowing him to escape this terrible fate.

Cunning, cruel, swift, the demorian man pounced on Saggi, tossing axe away, instead gripping Saggi's neck with both arms, wicked expression on his face, joy in killing, joy in bringing suffering. Gasping for air, Saggi's small frame trembled, his legs and arms thrashing around, desperate for breath again. Saggi's eyes widened, the tears continually streaming, his body continually weakening, the world continually spinning before his eyes.

Choking on nothing, chest deflating, arms and legs giving up the fight it did not take long. To this strange demorian Saggi relinquished his life. Is the world so cruel that it would kill one who is just a child?

[Le gasp. What's this? A new Rp? Why yes it is. Now...I just want to take the time to say some things in this first post. First, this RP will have a lot of backstory posts like that one for a while, possibly small happenings in-game as currently I'm mostly busy irl. The intense stuff will come later but don't worry, it's all planned out. Second, sometimes there will be a wait between posts....Sorry in advance for that.

I'm letting you know now that many of the baddie characters I might RP with in this RP might not have any training at all in what they RP to do. They won't accept duels either, just RP fights. Why don't I just train them? Because it's more than likely that by the end of this event that character will be perma-dead and deleted. I've not the time to train characters to delete them later.

I'm big on magic and magical things. Anything I do I will try and keep fair for the players involved and fun. I'm not interested in making uber spells so I can run around PS and claim to be the greatest mage alive. I just have always been someone who leaned towards the idea of powerful magic and like to litter my stories and plots with examples of it. I'm promising you now that I'm not going to sit around and godmod any players involved with the stuff, it's for your enjoyment as much as mine.

As always, if you're interested in being apart of this send me a pm or just post here. I can't assure you that you'll be doing anything anytime in really soon but soon enough. There are a couple of people I remember talking to like a month ago on IRC who I hope will send me a little message.

Hope any who get involved enjoy. This is built to be the final over-arching story of my old plots so it promises to be a lot of fun.]

General Discussion / Interesting Site

I was shown this site and just thought I'd post it here for anyone who might be interested.

http://www.seventhsanctum.com/

It basically generates random things, whether for plots, story-lines, characters, etc. Some of the generators are also silly and simply fun to mess with.

If one needed help thinking something up this would be a good site to get a kick in the right direction. I think it would definitely help if someone was having problems trying to think up a good idea for a character, wanted to give a shot at running an event, or simply needed a fresh idea. You might have to do some digging to actually find the right idea (or a good one xD ) but it's a useful tool to have around.

The weird name generator is especially fun.

General Discussion / Re: When RP was alive and kicking
« on: December 01, 2009, 02:04:56 pm »
The only thing that ever changes is the amount of people you know in the community. People come and go and if you aren't active enough to find new people to continue playing with then Rp seems to die in your own personal world. Then, you just think about the old things you did and go on about those instead of bothering to look for new plots to join in or create.

I speak from experience. Rp will always be alive and kicking if you are always active and pursue it or create it. If Rp seems dead to you after that it's not the RP that's dead, just your interest in it. That's when you start bragging about 'your day.' Sure there were huge RPs like the ones Verden mentioned but anyone could really start something like that with patience and planning.

I'll also agree with this:

Back then newbies and oldbies interacted more and for that matter, oldbies hung around. If you were a newbie you probably got to meet the local RP celebs. ;) Also, people RPed in groups and not necessarily just the same people or just people they had been RPing with for years. It was easier to drift in and out of RPs that you didn't have a hand in creating.

If you are the person creating plots and story-lines make sure you go the extra mile to find those outside of your own circle to include. Personally search for them, don't just invite them if they happen to be around. It makes a big difference in the playing experience for you and for characters new and old that you meet.

First, the idea of a newbie helper guild might be helpful . PS used to have plenty of them, though we don't anymore I believe.

Now it's great to help out the newbies and all, and I understand you won't just be giving them advice, but perhaps it is better to have a solid IC reason. Since this will be on Laanx I would think it would be necessary to have some sort of RP as background.

Take that in mind strongly as you design this guild. It is important that it isn't a guild that just helps OOCly but ICly as well, developing the character through some guild purpose/function. In my opinion your best bet would be not to start a guild but a school for something. It's up to you ultimately but I think a school makes it easier for someone to give someone OOC skills and still have an IC purpose.

Yeah. OSP for a chaotic guild would have to be done either similar to how the Outlaws did with the Red Crystal Den originally or it could not actually be called an 'OSP' but maybe instead have an alternate evil funder.

I vote yes. While i agree with what the no people said I think having maybe 4ish OSP guilds total would not much harm. Spreading OSP too much wouldn't be advisable but I also think that we could afford a couple more OSP guilds/organizations.

I would say focus more on reinforcing the existing OSP projects before creating more.

The only people who can work on reinforcing the existing OSP projects are members of those OSP projects themselves (and the GMs by aiding them as agreed or whatever). Sure, we could all join the two current OSP projects but then it's like everyone is an OSP member...

In my opinion we can pick a couple more but make sure that the RP those next winners offer is as diverse and interesting as the RPs and Events that have been conducted by our current OSP members.

I concur with Rigwyn and verden, unless you are referring to an OSP for chaotic guilds.

An OSP for chaotic guilds would be awesome and it would add to the diversity of the OSP winners.

Sarras? Isn't that an island in Arthurian legend? :P

Honestly, you can probably find a name in a number of places. I only typed yours into google to find something right away. I wasn't aware that Rioqura was a pokemon.... Still, so long as I'm not walking around named Pikachu I think we'll be fine.

(Sorry, its been a while. As always, I'm busy but I had a moment so heres some reading, short but there should be more to come. :P )

Alkanar sat within the Citadel library, looking over some of the books and reading them studiously. The realm was quiet, at least it was until Vertum crossed into the room, frown on his face.

"What's wrong," Alkanar questioned after looking up from his book.

"I have failed my duty is what's wrong," Vertum muttered, looking seconds away from lashing out. "As a Crystal Warden my only duty is to cultivate and protect the shards of dark crystal we find....And I find now that a few shards were stolen."

Shocked, Alkanar stood, looking up at Vertum, "Stolen, when by who? Everything has seemed quiet for the past few days.."

"I know. I suspect it happened during that last attack....There was a note left." From his pocket he brought up a note, on one side of the piece of brown parchment words and on the other side the picture of a red, frowning mask. Alkanar snatched the note while Vertum continued to speak, "The attacker that left this note asked me to bring Dakkru's arena to life..."

"What will you do?"

"What they ask....But I'm not a complete idiot. I'll enlist help. I've a feeling that this tournament means something to them too... They are after something. I'll make sure to have those under my banner in this next fight, we will be prepared." When Alkanar nodded he tapped his chin, "I suspect I can count on you to serve as one of my own in this battle to come?"

With another nod Alkanar smirked, "Of course."

General Discussion / Re: Open Player Interview
« on: August 12, 2009, 02:23:40 pm »
What types of characters do you want to be able to develop within PlaneShift?

Well generally I like darker characters and I'd probably stick with that. I do like having normal characters like merchants, priests, and such. Perhaps being able to play a government involved character would be nice.

How do you think factions should develop and what types of advantages/disadvantages do you think those should provide to a character?

If you are high with merchant faction, you might get nice things to sell to the people from the best crafters (because they suspect you a good salesperson), high with the cutthroats and they might not attack you, low with ublers for attacking them so often and they gang up on you.

What do you want a powerful character to be able to do in PlaneShift?

A lot....But not just by training or by RPing to be powerful. Real powerful characters would be helpful and a nice addition to the game if given by GMs and able to do much more than the normal character can without it all basically being made up. Maybe GMs give someone the power to be a guard, which would be a powerful character but a highly useful character considering the complaints players give out. Yes, favoritism, yatah yatah, I don't care. Favoritism is good.

Do you feel that PlaneShift's setting is an imposition on your ability to generate the character you want to make, what could be done to alleviate this if so?

Yes, just tell us more about the settings. If there isn't much done I understand. If there are some things that are done but not revealed please tell us. If you are worried about the fact that once its open everyone will act to know about it don't. Everyone is going to do that anyways, no matter what way you decide to drop the info on us. Its better than everyone making up facts and having them be the truth instead.

How do you envision the game's mechanics might reward roleplaying consistency, or well made and popular characters?

Its not possible. If game mechanics could be built to reward RP then PlaneShift would be a real life simulator and probably the best. If you want RP and game mechanics to mesh something has to work to connect them. GMs don't have the time to walk in game all day and do stuff, its been said before. However, players do. Things like the OSP = that reward. Do more of it.

Do you enjoy the fact that there is a maximum level of physical skill you can reach? Do you enjoy that there is a cap on how skilled you can be with a craft?

Everything should have a maximum. No one should be able to reach every maximum. Races should probably have their own individual maximum. No one is as strong as the strongest Kran or Ynnwn etc. Then from there, I may be Ynnwn but because of my character creation while I am pretty strong I'm much better at endurance and will, my strength pretty low for a Ynnwn, yatah yatah.

What area of development do you find the most important, why?

If settings is underdeveloped please develop it more and get info out to the players. If not, go for something like the game mechanics. There are a lot of problems with a lot of things but ignore them and instead put out the new features. At least, that way we have everything, regardless of how buggy it might be. Then you fix stuff. Having just crafting and fighting kinda throws all things out of balance.

What do you think the team should do to get more people?

I honestly don't know. I suppose as things get better more people will show up. If you mean more people on the game mechanics side of things perhaps make the mechanics something other than what you see in other games? Our grind looks different but why work for PlaneShift when I might get payed working for improving the WoW grind? Make it unique.

What do you think you as a player or fan of PlaneShift can do to keep developers motivated to deliver these wishes to you?

There's probably a million different things we can do to show our appreciation and with every new idea we come up the sincerity behind some of the 'Thank You's' and such will just decrease. Players can continue to search for bugs and such to help you, whether that will keep you motivated I don't know. Maybe seeing players using the mechanics you created and the settings you wrote in game will be enough.

To me if you need some kind of motivation other than the goal of creating PS then ask for it in the form you need it. I can't see me making a thread every month saying "Thank You Devs' as a great motivator but to someone it might be. Perhaps for some of you the amount of times we 'whine' on the forums being cut down would be enough :P

PvP,PK and Thieving / Re: PvP the reality in PS
« on: August 09, 2009, 11:58:36 am »
Sure it is. Everything is about Pl vs. Rp. Cause improving the PvP system will 'help' these OOC-PvP-fanatics. Their number will increase again and we have a big problem.

Actually it really isn't. One thing I dislike about the PvP system is that whole lag factor dragnoor mentions. I've only ever found one player with lag worst than mine (and he stopped playing but his lag would make him spend every period logged on in Kadas  ;D ) and with that as such a big factor I would never bother with PvP.

Plus, PvP relies little on anything but a players individual skill....There could be some changes made that would not only make the PvP system better but help blur the lines between the PL vs Rp argument and help it go away....

Wish list / Re: Relative Stats
« on: August 09, 2009, 11:50:37 am »
You can pretty much figure that 90% of those 1900 with maxed strength have the other stats maxed and the other 10% will likely too soon. bilbous' stats are all maxed but none of my alts' are anywhere close. Of course that 375k characters is misleading as I would assume at least 300k would be effectively abandoned.

This is of course speculation but...

Out of those 75k you basically predict being left we can't forget but to mention how many are just mules for carrying additional items... or alts that are rarely used and not trained (most players only train their main character but as mentioned before players can have like 14 alts or more).

The fact that 1900 out of much less than 75k active characters have maxed stats will probably still be worrisome. With the full 100 characters I see online (300 is the best I've seen and that was years ago) even if you said each of those 300 players had 15 alts you'd end up with around 4500 characters....

I know..Not all 1900 of those strength maxed characters are active, probably over 1000 of them no longer playing...But there are not 4500 active characters on Laanx either. Not even close. You're going to end up with a lot more of those maxed stats people then you should and thats the truth, and a lot more who are working their way toward maxing....I'm not seeing how this is going to hold true:

If you have STR of 200, you can feel good about RPing "strong" without us coding a super-complex system for additional precision.  ;-)

But like I said, just my thoughts, not any facts.
